Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Aatrox is not very threatening to Kayle. Dodging his slow is a must, but Kayle can harass him very easily. This should be an easy lane.
Favors: Kayle
Cho'Gath
I will update this when I actually face a cho'goth, but you can harass him easily. His knock-up is trouble and needs to be avoided. Kayle must ult before he ults, Cho'Goth's true damage is an insanely good execution tool.
Favors: Kayle
Darius
Darius is a bitch to deal with. His pull-spin combo can quickly drain Kayle's health. Harassing him is harder than most champions. Kayle has to allow a good distance between the two. Blocking his ult is easier than with Cho'goth and is essential. Using Kayle's R right before his negates all of the damage and also denies Darius the abiity to do it again. This match-up is one of the few I might buid boots for.
Favors: Darius
Dr. Mundo
Mundo you can harass easily. Pushing under turret will force him to play passively. Try to stay behind minions to avoid his infected cleaver and do damage when you can. Mundo's health regen and tankyness prevent a lot of kill pressure from Kayle so expect a boring lane.
Favors: Kayle
Fiora
Fiora is always dangerous, but first kill usually determines who wins the lane. Ult when she ults and hope she is low enough to kill before she gets the heal from completing the circle. Fiora's poke is very easy to dodge, so feel free to harass often and without mercy. DO NOT let her kill you multiple times.
Favors: Whoever gets first kill
Fizz
Leona against Fizz works amazingly well, but kayle can beat whatever that thing is easily. As usual, deny him/her/it/whatever farm, and harass when you can. The countdown on Fizz's ult makes it so simple to negate with Kayle's ult its funny.
Favors: Kayle
Gangplank
Gangplank lost a lot of his long-range power with his update. His Parrrley will still give him some farming ability, but as with any melee champ, Kayle can outfarm and harass the crap out of him. The range on his barrels is less than the range of Kayle's E-enhanced basic attack and are thus easy to destroy. his ult is annoying but not a huge amount of damage. It is hard to know when to ult as Kayle with Gangplank having no real burst damage, but being honest you shouldn't need to.
Favors: Kayle
Garen
With the update the juggernauts, Garen just got nerfed. His damage is still formidable and he is still a super-tank. Get him as low as you can and get the jungler to help. His movement speed was reduced so as Kayle you should be able to keep him at a distance.
Favors: Garen
Gnar
Primarily a skill match-up. Gnar doesn't not have the ranged damage Kayle has. When Gnar becomes Mega Gnar, things become a little more interesting. Back off until he is done flinging large heavy objects and take a breather. When gnar is low on fury punish him a lot.
Favors: Kayle, unless Gnar gets first kill.
Hecarim
Never played against a Hecarim top with Kayle, but is wont be easy. He has great engage and disengage, so rely on harassing him and denying him farm. He will most likely all in when ulting, so take that opportunity to ult and destroy him. More specific information to come.
Favors: First kill, because I have no idea.
Heimerdinger
Expect to lose. Heimerdinger is a bitch. Be careful and don't die.
Favors: Heimerdinger
Irelia
This is going to sound really repetitive, but as irelia is a melee chanp, harass and farm-deny the shit outta her. Her ult is rather weak, so wait until she dashes in then ult and wreck her. Being careful, Kayle can win this lane with difficulty. Irelia lacks kill pressure, so if Kayle finds herself behind she can turret and be in relative safety.
Favors: Kayle, unless Irelia gets first kill
Jarvan IV
Poor Jarvin. He wont know what hit him. He has a good engage-ult combo, but then he cant escape and is very close. Ult then kill easily. He is a melee champ, enough said if you have read the rest of these champion comparisons. No real threat here.
Favors: Jarvin 4. HA HA no, Kayle can destroy his ass.
Jax
Jax, I hate Jax. He is melee, but Do NOT let him all in you unless you want him to. Poke, harass, and deny the shit outta him but don't let him come close. The danger meter is accurate if you know what you are doing, but a few jumps means dead Kayle if you aren't.
Favors: Kayle, unless Jax gets first kill (and second, and third, so on and so forth)
Jayce
Fuck this guy. Play jayce if you want to gt better at everything in league and piss the fuck out of the enemy team. He has better poke than Kayle and great engage. He is a mana champ, so Kayle can (hopefully) make her mana last longer. Get jungler help and try not to let him push.
Kennen
Kennen has unmatched poke and all in, but Kayle has unmatched harass and waveclear. Kennen is an energy champ, so he is almost resouceless, but he can be very low on energy. If he is attack. His ult has not cost, so always be wary of that post-6. His poke can also hit minions, so stay behind them. Try not to get stunned and you should be good.
Favors: Kayle
Lee Sin
DO NOT GET HIT BY HIS DASH. Other than that you should be able to beat him, as long as you DO NOT GET HIT BY HIS DASH.
Favors Kayle, If she DOES NOT GET HIT BY HIS DASH
Malphite
Tanky, but rather weak offensively, Malphite is not a huge threat. His poke/bomb will target minions, so back up and let the minions die for you. He is melee, so harass and poke him to your hearts desire. Don't be afraid if he all-ins with his ult, keep doing damage until he runs away. Only ult if you think you need to.
Favors: Kayle
Master Yi
If Yi ever decides to go top, destroy him. If he alpha strikes you then all ins, wait intil he is actually attacking you before he ults. Q and BOTRK should make short work of him. His ult is annoying, but is only good if he has the advantage. If he doesn't it is a good way to run away.
Favors: Kayle
Mordekaiser
Mordekaiser is scary. His shield will block most of the poke/harass damage you will do and he can quickly get you low. Play safe and damage him if you can. It would be helpful to be nice to your jungler also.
Favors: Mordekaiser
Nasus
KILL HIM FAST. That's about it. If you can't kill him early you will never be able to. Early on you can stop him from getting Q stacks, but you have to get that early kill. Later his wither is just too good against Kayle for her to stand much of a chance.
Favors: Nasus
Olaf
Olaf is an excellent top laner. He has build in sustain, anti-tank, poke and harass. He is a melee mana champ, two big weaknesses Kayle can exploit. When he is low on mana, harass the shit outta him. He can still use his E, and the true damage can add up fast, but he will most likely use it as a cs tool. When he ults and all-ins, wait until he is low before you ult. That is when he is most damgerous and it should give you enough time to kill him.
Favors: Kayle, barely
Pantheon
Pantheon is very dangerous fed, but you can harass him easily. Try to avoid his Q and you should be good. His ult is next to useless once he is in a fight so he has no big post 6 power boost like kayle does. His stun also requires him to get close, and once he does
Q and E him until he regrets stunning you. Ult when you are low then destroy him.
Favors: Kayle
Renekton
Poor Renekton. You can poke and harass him all day long. He might try to get a level 1 ignite kill, because tht is his only chance to win lane. He can heal, but not enough to be a threat to Kayle.
Favors: Kayle, by a lot
Rengar
A really good rengar top cannot be beat. That being said, be careful, stay away from bushes, get wards and don't let him jump you. Do not die to him whatever you do. Play passively and wait until the team fighting stage, you are much stronger team fighting late game then he is.
Favors: Rengar
Riven
Not much to worry about. Melee champ, no ranged damage to worry about pre-6 and once she engages, not a lot of disengage. Harass and poke and have fun winning.
Favors: Kayle
Rumble
Rumble is rarely played, so I don't have the same experience facing him as say gnar, but he is not a terrible foe. Kayle has more range on her poke and harass, so use that to your advantage. His ult is very strong, so avoid it or get out of it. Try to keep him at a distance unless you can destroy him. Be carefull and wait until he fucks up. When he does make him pay
Favors: Kayle
Shen
Shen is tanky, but he has next to no damage. Harass and poke and make his life hell. Not much threat here.
Favors: Kayle
Shyvana
I love playing as Shyvana, but Kayle is the reason I play her jungle. She is a melee champ and thus kayle is better than her, but unlike most champs Shyvana is stronger than her late game. Beat her early so she doesn't become unstoppable late game.
Singed
Singed is one of the few melee champs that can provide a credible threat to Kayle. Do not chase him, keep your distance and damage him when you can. If he gets first kill, stay back even more nad get jungler help. Late game, Kale is much stronger than him, so bide you time and don't be stupid.
Sion
Don't let him knock you up and you are good. Damage him a lot and don't let him farm. His ult isn't good in a close fight once in, so use that to your advantage.
Favors: Kayle
Tahm Kench
Tahm Kench is one of the few champs that can compete with Kayle early on, but even this hunk of lard cannot beat her late game. Damage him when you can and wait until you are better than him.
Favors: A Kayle trained in patience
Teemo
THE DEVIL is actually not that good against Kayle. Avoid his poke and try to out farm him. Teemo cannot all in like kayle, and his ult is no use in a pitched battle. When moving, Stay well behind minions at all times to avoid his mushrooms. Always know where he is and don't let him free farm. Kill him quickly if you try to kill him and try to get some pre-6 kills.
Favors Teemo normally, but Kayle played right can beat Him/Her/It/Furry/Whatever
Trundle
Don't fight him on his turf is the name of the game. Do that and Kayle should be set. He is melee, and thus can easily be poked and harassed. In a all-in fight, always have your ult ready. Other than that trundle is not too bad. It would be much easierto get the first kill with jungle help, then the rest alone. Don't underestimate trundle.
Favors Kayle
Tryndamere
Post-6, Tryndramere is very difficult for Kayle to kill, since he can ult then run away. Pre-6, he is no threat. He has excellent chase, but is also easy to chase. Melee, but he is a fury champion, so letting him get fury will allow him to have a somewhat sustainable heal. Remember that his ult lasts longer that yours and run when he does unless you have a clear advantage.
Favors: Kayle
Vladimir
I will update this when I face a Vladimir in lane as Kayle, but the fact that I have not faced one speaks for itself. He has great sustain but cannot fight against Kayle well. Someone comment on how their battle went if they have faced vlad and I will gladly update this.
Favors: Go find out
Volibear
Tough matchup, but winnable. Stay back and keep him low, your ult is very good against him since he does the most damage against low-health enemies. If he flips you, slow him and damage him. Let him run away if he wants, then take a breather and get cs. I would recommend getting jungler assistance to get an early kill.
Favors: Kayle
Wukong
Wukong is annoying, but he cannot put any credible kill threat on kayle, so harass the shit outta him and force him to play passively. When he all ins he has little to no escape and can be dealt with easily. His ult is annoying but can be avoided. Wu kong cannot basic attack when he is ulting so stay out of range of the knock-up and blast him with your E.
Favors: Kayle
Welcome one and all to Sugotai's Strategy Quide. I am relatively new to League, having just joined in early January of 2015. I am currently up for my promos in Bronze 3, having not played ranked in a long time. Kayle I hope will allow me to get into silver at the very least. I play Kayle because she has an amazingly strong early and late game, and there are very few champions that pose a credible threat to her in lane. I don't play the standard support Kayle because I find it dreadfully boring. I hope this guide inspires and enable players to play Kayle the way she is strongest, as an ad carry top lane. Jungle is also possible and quite rewarding as Kayle, and I will explain the slight modification as to how that works later. Enjoy the guide, and I hope you can bring some holy judgement back to top lane.
Pros / Cons
Pros / Cons
PROS
Excellent at mid-far ranged sustained damage.
Excellent Chase.
Can best almost all Melee champions.
Late game is stronger than most ADC's
Excellent Siege
Can still support team with full ad build
Ult can be cast on any ally
When fed can easily 1v2 or 3
Cons
Squishy
Hard CC can block ult from being cast
Malzahar is a *****
Creeping / Jungling
Creeping / Jungling
Jungling with Kayle requires very little modification from the build shown in this guide. First item is skirmishers blade with devourer enchantment. This will replace Wit's End in the final build. Start with one point in Rightous Fury, then max her W. Using q if helpful for ganking but has no practical use in clearing jungle camps. The build order is also slightly modified when jungling. Skirmishers devourer first, then BOTRK, then Runaans Hurricane. The power boost from runaans is huge but you need the life steal and on hit damage from the first two items before you get it. The first dragon is difficult for Kayle to solo, but after the first she should have enough power to take a limited amount of damage from it. Starting blue allows Kayle to use her heal as often as she can when she is weakest, eliminating he need for an early recall.
Team Work
Team Work
Kayle needs a good meat shield in order to unleash her full damage. Kayle does insane damage late game, but even she can only do so much in three seconds. The longer Kayle can attack without ulting the greater her team has a chance of winning the teamfight. If kayle is behind, ulting the ADC (or whoever does the most damage) is a very powerful tool. Olaf and Kayle make an insanely good duo, as you can probably imagine why.
Unique Skills
Unique Skills
Kayle has a rather unique set of skills that enable her to be a powerful fighter rather than just a a support. Runaans Hurricane combined with her E allows her to do massive amounts of damage to all enemies in front of her. On-hit effects are also applied. Kayle with berserkers boots and a Frozen Mallet and Runaans Hurricane is impossible to run from for most champs. Red buff is insanely strong with her as I can be applied to the entire enemy team multiple times a second. Her ult is insanely good with this build, as three seconds of free attacking will kill everyone except juggernauts, and Kayle can easily keep them at a distance. Her AOE basic attack is the best in the business (sorry tristana).
Farming
Farming
Farming with Kayle is rather simple. Use her E then take out the three castor minions in the back. This will negate most of the damage you will receive if you decide to go on an extended chase, and also since none of your minions are attacking them they are free cs. Farming the melee minions can be difficult with the AOE, so I usually use Kayle's normel basic attack unless I can get two at once. Her E costs very little mana, and if you find yourself low on mana simply farm without it until you have a more comfortable amount.
Summary
Summary
Kayle kicks ***. She is one of the strongest champions thati rarely see played. Her late game and teamfighting are better than any ADC. I strongly recommend Kayle to be the first champion players buy in the game. There is no 450 IP champions with the tools and power that Kayle has. I hope this guide inspires you to try her out at least, and discover the power she has in her.
Best of luck on the Rift
