Champion Build Guide

So You Want To Carry As Draven! [Season 11]

By Vexxar21
Introduction
My name is Sam, or Vexxar. I have played Draven since season 6 and have enjoyed helping friends learn the champion as well as playing the champion. I feel like no matter the meta Draven is always viable. Destroys any other adc early and will more than likely give you a lead.
Counters
Draven's main counters isn't really other adcs but supports. A strong support on the opposing team can put Draven at a real disadvantage especially if your support is not a "helpful" one. Draven can still do well in most matchups but it will be harder. The biggest counter to Draven is you. Misplays and taking trades at the wrong times will more than likely lead you to dying and being the 0 and 10 Draven player that makes players despise Draven mains. In order to fix this learn from every single engagement actively think about the enemies CD's and their abilities. Start off slow and really learn the champion. The more you learn the less mistakes you'll make with the simple stuff and then find yourself making other mistakes to which you can correct from there. With time you will learn these lanes and what you can get away with and what you can't get away with. Some lanes are extremely difficult such as Ashe and Senna. For this lane you have to play passive so that you don't lose too much hp and are healthy enough for a JG gank.
Lane Phase
At the beginning of lane phase you want to keep your Q active and get an auto or 2 off when the enemy goes to finish cs. Draven can shove waves quickly so be careful of auto piloting and hitting minions. First wave focus on last hitting and hitting the enemy adc, while also not taking extended trades that cause you to lose cs/health. These 2 resources are important early. On second wave clear the first 3 melee minions to reach level 2 before your enemy laners. You want to all in level 2 if you have poked them down enough. Taking W second will allow for you to get a burst of MS and AS you want to use that to your advantage and deal as much damage as you can while maintaining your axes. If they use summoners level 2 it is a win for you. Don't over aggress if you do not understand your limits on Draven. Draven is a champion who thrives on winning early so stay healthy and poke down the enemy laner until you can all in them. At level 3 for trades you want to focus on AA E AA W AA. This combo will allow you to burst down the enemy and win most trades. Don't sacrifice your life for axes! There is no need to take unwanted CC/Tower shots for an ability on a low CD. During the lane phase it is often that Draven gains a lead, if you're in a situation where you have a lead and the enemies are playing passive instead of freezing you can shove wave and help your JG on objectives like scuttle, dragon, and possibly an invade. When going for these make sure you have vision around the bot side and jg so that you don't walk into 2 or 3 members of the enemy team. While you may be able to fight it the way to carry is on certainty and not coinflips. Using vision to give you and your team information on the enemy position will allow you to collapse on enemy players roaming/ganking or to take a fight that is a win with numbers advantage.
Mid Game
After you take first tower bot lane in most cases it is more beneficial to play around mid and bring your lead to your team. Group up with them and take winnable fights. You'll scale your lead hard enough to end most games around 20-25 min. This depends on how well you play with your team and how well the enemies are responding. Don't run in blind to the enemies and keep track of your peel if you don't have any try and stand behind your top, mid, and jg. Pump out your damage from behind your other threats so you are harder to get to and lower elo's will focus the first thing they see.
Late Game
If you've made it here and your team is just playing it safe more passive then that's okay but you don't want the enemies to scale. Because if the enemy team out scales you they will win every fight till they end. It is important to be grouped with at least some members on your team. Don't solo split push because you will just get jumped on and 1 shot.
Runes/Engaging
Depending on which runes you chose you will have different times to engage. HOB means you engage when you have your HOB up. PTA is the same as HOB. Conqueror allows you to go in whenever your support/jg is ready and you 2 can win the 2v2/2v3/3v3. Dark Harvest while wanting to wait for it to be up you also have a 45s CD on it so with Dark Harvest it is better to poke the enemy down and then all in when they are significantly lower than you. Keep in mind that I am referring to all in engages. Not just poking. Poke them if your runes aren't up when they go for CS that way when your runes are up you are at an advantage to deal burst damage. You can still fight if your runes aren't ready just play smart and watch for your support to help you engage.
Conclusion
Draven is a fun and hard hitting champion. He does take some time to learn but once you do he becomes that much more fun. Being able to one shot an enemy will put a feeling into your body that is unexplainable. Check me out on twitch and youtube where I post/stream content like league and FPS games. Thanks for reading my guide and I hope you may have learned something even if it was one thing! :D
