Laning.

Bard is really powerful in his early levels with his high base damage on Q and ignite, normally if you get a good cosmic binding and have synergy with your adc you can get easy first bloods or trade your ignite for at least a heal or flash. Bard can easily escape from ganks with the movespeed boost from his Caretaker's Shrine and easy use of Magical Journey.

Roaming.

Roaming on Bard is a good idea to help get your midlane rolling, but always inform your adc what you're doing and don't let them push up too far. This is a good chance to collect your chimes to power up your passive and you can coordinate easy 3 man ganks with the Jungler and Midlaner. Once you hit 6, you can use your ult on midlane towers and setup clean dives to benefit your team.

Bard's Ult.

Tempered Fate is one of the strongest utility ultimates in the game. It can be used to start a teamfight, delay an objective, save a teammate or catchout an enemy who is out of position. Its relatively short cooldown and all around utility makes it one of the strongest ultimates in the game if you use it correctly.
