About me and the guide:
I won't get ahead of myself and state that I am the best player you'll find and this guide is not intended to teach Jax players new tricks, it is for the persons that didn't actually gave Jax a try because so very long ago when they tried jax for the first time they did not understand why you won't go on a killing spree with an Infinity's Edge and a Static Shiv.
PAY CLOSE ATTENTION FOR I CAN NOT EVEN BEGIN TO STATE HOW IMPORTANT THIS IS:
If you are new to the game (up to level 20) and you don't really use the active on items forget about this guide for a BIG part of it revolves around the active on Blade of the Ruined King's and/or Hextec Gunblade's active!!!

I get it, I start with Doran's blade but why the second one?
80 HP + 8 AD + gain 5 HP on hit! 2 Doran's and a vampiric scepter = 20-25 hp return each hit.
Now some people love Sheen, why should you build Bilgewater Cutlass? Because you will take flash into combat, admit it, you want that flash on the lane so how are you going to stick to your target? Bilgewater's active (25% slow on target) and moreover it builds into Blade of The Ruined King (OP item IJS). Blade of the ruined king is the first major item you should build, and here are the reasons:
1)Bonus Attack speed & damage
2)Nice Life Steal
3)5% of target's maximum hp on hit
I will admit that it took me a long time to figure out why trinity is such a good item and I will try to explain: Have you ever been kited? Has anyone got away from you with 50 hp and there is no way to get to him and it kills you inside? Trinity is for that!!! The active on Blade of the Ruined King has a 90 sec cooldown, this means that it is a lot easier to be kited. Trinity solves this issue through the passive:
SPELLBLADE (after using an ability the next basic attack deals bonus damage equal to 200% of the base damage, base damage is around 100 on Jax so your W will deal 200 more damage) you have some burst to take down that full of escapes ADC!
plus the bonus movement speed from Zeal.
Take this scenario: You are top lane (lvl 6) and your lane opponent is a bully, you hate his guts cause he has a ranged skill and he won't stop that poke. Hit 2 basic attacks on a minion then Q on the enemy champion followed by W as soon the leap connects
REASON: Jax's ultimate passively gives him bonus magic damage at every 3'rd hit, hitting 2 times a minion and then hitting the enemy champion guarantees the bonus damage from the ultimate, also hitting with W (empower) will add extra magic damage, in the case of squishier opponents it is not excluded to take down 1/3 (or even more) of it's hp in one second (especially if you have Sheen)!!
Scenario 2: You are against a tank that you pushed him to his tower and he just won't leave that place (take Mundo for example). He will think that he's safe under the tower having a bit more than half HP. Same trick hit 2 times on a minion, activate E hit him with the 3'rd strike + empower. Don't forget about ignite!! If he runs activate blase of the ruined king, that will enable you to catch up to him and flash only if you know you are going to get the kill (if you are not sure then just leave it be).
PRACTICE USING Q FOR ESCAPES!!! You need a ward, here you have 2 options
1)you buy a ward and hold to that warding totem, place the ward for vision and use the trinket for escapes (Jax can use Q to jump on friendly minions, champions and also wards)
2)simply don't ward, you will need that trinket for escapes, but this means you HAVE TO HOLD ON TO THAT FLASH AND TRINKET!
Obviously I recommend the first option
