Differences between Summoner's Rift and Twisted Treeline



Darius is a very strong pick for TT. He does quite a bit of damage while being tanky at the same time. This is thanks to his ultimate that does true damage and can be reset, along with his really high scaling Q. If hit with the blade, the ratio is 1.05 bonus ad.

There aren't any differences regarding the play style differences between TT and SR. The item builds do vary quite alot depending on who you are playing against. This is one of Darius's strong points for TT. He can stack MR, armor, or build more towards dps. Darius is very good at adapting to an enemies team comp.

Champions and Team Comps good with Darius

Darius should only be played in the top lane since his jungle clear is very slow. Besides this restriction, however, you can fit Darius into most team comps in the top lane.

Some of my personal favorite are:

Kha'zix has lots of burst and incase he cannot finish someone off, you should have enough stacks for your ult and other spells to finish the target off. The only way this bursting will not work is against a team with Kayle or someone who was really fed and built tanky. Lulu can help keep everyone alive and peel so that the fight will almost always be in your favor.

Jarvan can almost guarantee you landing your grab since he has a knock up and a slow. When it gets to mid/end game, jarvan can make fights into a pit of doom. Your damage along with Zyra's can easily wipe out one if not their entire team.

Summoner Spells, Masteries, Runes, Abilities

Summoner Spells


I would not take any other skill over ignite since it is key in finishing off kills early on. Exhaust will really hinder your killing power, so if it's needed have someone else get it.

Since Darius's ult is true damage, I think that Spell weaving is very beneficial.

You can swap out the Greater Glyph of Magic Resist and put in Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction instead if the enemy has little to no magic damage. I recommend the flat ad due to the very high scaling damage on his Q. It will make your harass early on very good.

You should not level Apprehend over Crippling Strike because the armor penetration is not needed early on and with the flad ad you have, your Crippling Strike will do large amounts of damage in a correct combo.

What to build on Darius

Before I go into actual item suggestions, Darius is a very versatile champion build wise. You can build him however you need that game whether its armor, MR or damage. So there really is no one specific build or items that you should always get. I can only suggest you strong items that you should build against certain comps.

Darius does not need to build a lot of damage to do damage since his ultimate is true damage and can reset. There should always be a somewhat tanky feel whenever you're playing him.

Strong offensive Items are:



After completing Black Cleaver, your Decimate will turn into an AOE armor shred.

Ravenous Hydra is good because it is an auto attack reset. You will have 2 after completing this since your Crippling Strike is also an auto attack reset. You will do lots of burst with the Hydra reset.

Maw of Malmortius is a good item for both offensive and defensive purposes. If they have lots of AP damage, you can rush this item. Otherwise, I would get this item later on.

Defensive Option:



Randuin's Omen is great since it will slow your targets and reduce their damage. This is better for a heavy AD team, but can be picked up later on if you need more health.

Spirit Visage is very good since it gives 20% cdr which will allow you to use your abilities more often.

Sunfire Aegis is very good if rushed. It will deal pretty good damage early on and can maximize the damage on your combo early on.

General Techniques

A proper sequence of skills is

--->auto attack----> ---->auto attack---> (make sure you hit them with the axe for max damage)--->(if you have ult) auto attack---->

You can walk up to them and hit them with your Decimate and then grab them in as well, but this will make you lose one auto attack in your combo.

Obviously try and get the kill with your Decimate but during the heat of battle you might not get the damage right. This is a manageable mistake but you should know the amount of damage you can do. Getting a reset will result in a huge spike in damage.

Strategy

Refer to my Voosha's general 3v3 guide for some strategic suggestions.


Early Game

Start off with a Doran's Blade, Cloth Armor and one Health Potion. Push your lane so you can get an early level advantage over your opponent. Once you're level 2 and they're still level 1, you can just run up to them and deal a chunk of damage with Decimate and Crippling Strike. This will help establish your lane dominance, but be warned that the jungler may come for an early gank due to your aggression.
In most of my other guides I would tell you to roam at this point. The only roaming you should do early on is for the altar, otherwise stay in lane and farm. Darius really needs some tankiness to be a large threat.



Mid Game

Do not waste your Apprehend. Only use it if you know for sure they are within the range, because this will leave you very kiteable with it on cooldown. This comes with lots of practice of course so play alot to get used to the range. If any of your teammates have a stun or slow, wait for theirs to be used first before you grab. This will make it a million times easier and can almost guarantee you a kill.

Before you use your ult, make sure you have some stacks on him because a bare ult does less than most champion's regular skills. If you must, just hit them at least once but you should really try to get max stacks on them.


Defense

Darius is pretty good at playing defense. If they are under tower or within grab range, they can choose to either run away or fight you under tower. As long as you're not significantly behind, they will not fight you under tower which will give you free damage onto them. Stay grouped so they don't dive you 3v1 and you should be able to farm your way back into the game. Darius is one of the best mid game champions and falls off a bit during end game. So have a quick game pace and communicate with your teammates.
