Differences between Summoners Rift and Twisted Treeline for Jarvan

Jarvan is not picked very much due to recent changes in SR, but play style is very similar for TT. A small difference is that in TT you may be building more offensively or bruiser like. This is because the enemy team may completely ignore you and your team may lack some damage.

Champions and Team comps good with Jarvan

Jarvan is a tanky jungler that can bring a lot of cc. Almost all champions work well with Jarvan, but a certain few works best.

You may have seen this comp in some of my other guides, but this really is my favorite. Both Jarvan and Lulu can peel for Vayne if she gets engaged on. Jarvan can also do the engaging knowing that Lulu can ult him for an aoe knockup and more health. I have played many games and I really believe this is the best comp.

When Jarvan can land an ult on at least 2 people, it basically becomes a death box. There is massive burst, aoe damage with this comp, and with a Jax this dps can be sustained for a while. This is also a very scary comp.

Summoner Spells, Masteries, Runes, Abilities

Summoner Spells

I usually would tell every to get flash as a summoner, but for jarvan I actually recommend not getting it. You can already slow the enemy champions and flag over walls. Using flash offensively may not even be worth it since Jarvan has so many gap closers.Flash, flag, and ulting already covers the majority of a lane and very few champions can keep up with that amount of distance covered. Using the flag dash + ultimate to close the distance is already a bit much for many team comps so I would rather pick up smite.

Masteries

I actually run AD masteries so I can trade with the enemy jungler better when I invade. You can run defensive, but then you would need to buy a jungle item which may put you behind (more on this later). I've played with both and have most success running AD masteries.

Runes

Runes

Precision
Fleet Footwork
Phase Rush

I also run standard AD runes as well since his Q scales off of bonus attack damage.

Abilities

You can choose to level the shield up with you have enough damage and need more survivability. It is game and team comp dependent, but most of the time I level flag over the shield. I would always recommend leveling Q first since it lowers the cooldown and you can actually Q to one flag more than once, once your Q is high enough level.

What to build on Jarvan

Core items

There is a reason why I have so few items listed in the core items for Jarvan. He is very similar to Lee Sin with the fact that his item builds are very flexible and vary game to game. However, I believe these are items you should get almost all games.

Locket of the Iron Solari Gives magic resist to your teammates, but overall is a good tanky item for yourself. Added bonus of a shield to give to yourself and your teammates.

The Brutalizer Will give you a bit more damage early on. The armor pen stacks great with your Q. I sometimes rush this if I feel our team is lacking damage.

Offensive Options

Trinity Force If you don't know what to buy, but need damage get a trinity force. It's great on most characters who need a boost in dps.

Black Cleaver I will get this if my other AD damage is doing well. Getting this item basically turns jarvan into an armor shredding machine.

Ravenous Hydra An auto attack reset that can also help stack up your black cleaver very quickly. If you have Hydra and a Black cleaver, you can get 4 stacks of black cleaver on an enemy champion in your combo.

Drop down the flag, dragon strike to them (1 stack plus the armor pen from the spell), auto attack (2 stacks), activate Hydra(3 stacks), auto attack (4 stacks). Now you just need to hit them once more for the 5th stack. That combo may take a little over a second to 2 seconds to do.

Defensive Options

Randuin's Omen Great item if they're heavy on the AD or if their AD damage is doing well. Also provides another slow on top of your W if you need to peel.

Spirit Visage Great against heavier AP damage teams, but I usually purchase the Randuin's omen in game.

Strategy

Refer to my Voosha's general 3v3 guide for some strategic suggestions.

Early Game

Start off at wraith camp and clear the entire camp. Proceed to the wolf camp, but only kill the big wolf. Immediately head over to the health relic and grab it before the enemy jungler does. You have a few options at this point which you should communicate with your teammates or judge for yourself. Gank a lane if one is more pushed up, or invade the jungler if your teammates are pushed up. You can easily kill someone at level 2 with 2 people. You have a knockup for CC and damage is all you need. Deny as much of their jungle as possible, while being wary of the map at the same time. Don't get caught out.

Mid Game

You should have your core items completed and maybe another offensive option item. Most games you will not be the focus of the enemy team so they may choose to ignore you. Luckily, if you built some dps items Jarvan actually does quite a bit of damage. Your main job, however, is to keep the enemy champions in control so that your teammates can do the damage. Always try to peel for your teammates so their job is easier, you are afterall the tank. There have been situations where my teammates get focused down so hard and I have done everything in my powers to peel for them, that I just go straight dps. If one of your teammates can't carry then you need to do the carrying.
