Introduction
Hey guys! Since the start of season 8 Nami has been my main support. I have mastered her and managed to climb to Diamond I with her. Hopefully soon I will become master. With this build I am going to show you how to play Nami so that you can climb to ladder to high elo just like I did.

|
Surging Tides (Passive): is a wonderful spell. It is good for both engaging and escaping. It gives bonus movement speed to your allies when they get hit by one of your spells (this includes Aqua Prison as well). Players who want to master Nami should learn to utilize this skill. |
|
Aqua Prison (Q): is Nami's main hard cc ability. The skill is really good for picking up early kills as well as avoiding ganks (if you manage to hit your Q that is) |
|
Ebb and Flow (W): is Nami's most active abillity. Use this abillity to poke enemies early game instead of just healing your adc when they receive damage. In 5v5 teamfights due to the fact that Nami's damage wears off late use Ebb and Flow on ally so that the skill will heal 2 allies and damage one enemy. |
|
Tidecaller's Blessing (E): is really good skill. With the current runes whenever you have Summon Aery and Ardent Censer if you use Tidecaller's Blessing on an ally you will grant them bonus movement speed, on hit slow, on hit bonus magic damage, bonus attack speed and shield. Thats pretty awesome for just one skill. You can grant your adc 5 buffs at once. |
|
Tidal Wave (Ultimate): is best used when the enemies that you are engaging are under crowd control or when they are located in tight area. It is not hard to dodge Tidal Wave if the enemy is free to move wherever they want. This is why it best to use Nami's ultimate cautiously. |

Remnant of the Watchers Cost: 1800 gold |
Every game you start with Spellthief's Edge so that you have more damage and on your first back upgrade this item to Frostfang. After that go for your core items - Ardent Censer, Athene's Unholy Grail and Redemption. After you have bought them its up to you whether you want to buy first some bonus defences (talking about Locket of the Iron Solari) or finish your supp item. I personally buy Locket of the Iron Solari and then finish my support item. |
Boots of Switness Cost: 900 gold |
I prefer to take Boots of Swiftness rather than Mobility Boots, because when I am in combat I wont lose my movement speed. I even get 10 bonus movement speed and 25% slow resist, which is really good for dodging skillshots while in combat. |
Ardent Censer Cost: 2300 gold |
It goes without saying that Ardent Censer is part of Nami's build. I would advice you to complete this item before your shoes because of the bonus 30ap you will get upon completion and the buff that you will be able to apply on your adc. |
Athene's Unholy Grail Cost: 2100 gold |
Nami needs abillity power and lots of mana regen this is why this item is just for her. It gives 30ap flat but thanks to its passive every 25% bonus mana regen adds 5 ap which is great rly. After Redemption is bought you will get bonus 70ap which is alot and it will prove very useful. Not to forget Athene's Unholy Grail's other passive, which converts the damage you have dealt in bonus healing. With this item you will improve both your heals and damage. |
Redemption Cost: 2100 gold |
Redemption is a must for Nami especially in late game. Used wisely this item can win a whole teamfight. Don't waste it on nothing. Wait for the right moment to use it. Redemption efficientcy is greater at late rather than in early so it is better to buy it after Athene's Unholy Grail. |
Locket of the Iron Solari Cost: 2200 gold |
Last but not least, Locket of the Iron Solari is an item which I really don't like buying, because if I buy it means that its late game, and Nami's win rate in late games is at its lowest. You'd better finish the game before min 30 because Nami's efficiency wears off a lot after mid game. Use this item smartly just before the moment your team is getting hit by an AoE attack so that the shield will block more damage. The decay rate of Locket of the Iron Solari's shield is really high so you'd better use it right on the moment. |
Tristana has Rocket Jump. With this spell she can engage the enemy that you have bubled with Aqua Prison. Apply Tidecaller's Blessing on her after she has landed and use Ebb and Flow on Tristana when Surging Tides applied from Tidecaller's Blessing is over so that she gains the movement speed bonus for a longer. There isn't really a set way of using your abilities but using the following below combos might help you utilize Nami's power better.
Early game combos:
Mid and late game combos
Early game combos:
- W + BA(Basic Attack) / and then you back off (this is basic poke)
- E(on self) + Q + BA + W / and then you back off
- Q + E(on adc)+ BA + W(on stunned target) + BA / if it looks like you are going to kill the enemy use ignite to secure the kill and reduce all heals.
Mid and late game combos
- R* + Q + E(on ally) + W(on ally) -> 5v5 teamfights (R*- you are using R on an enemy under crowd control or located in tight terrain)
- Q + R + E(on ally) + W(on enemy) -> for fights in which your team needs the stunned target dead as soon as possible. Using Ebb and Flow on the enemy will help your team kill him faster.
In the video below I have set a couple of examples of how to pick up clean kills in early game.

I am going to further develop this build. I am going to add additional sections one of which will be dedicated on telling which adc-s are good for Nami and which are not and why. If you find my build helpful don't forget to upvote it, it will be really aprriciated. Leave a comment with a suggestion for improving my build and if you have question feel free to ask it.
