I understand you might want your mana pool decently filled for whenever you want to use it, or even maybe some MR to avoid bullies. However, is an assassin: maximizing your damage output and getting lane kills should be your priority. If you are strugling with mana, make your abilities count. is also decent help as a starting item.
Early is nothing new and that is the reason was not really popular early this season, since and go much better with it, especially to farm. She is being seen again due to DFG rush and early magic pen builds. Nor her farming capabilities.

runes for ManaR and a Chalice? Not rushing fist the Deathfire Grasp?
When i started using ManaR runes, i stop using the chalice.
I think this two things is your mistake.
