Introduction

This is Kalorth from the League of Legends here to bring you a guide on Xerath. If you play exactly by this guide, and if you use your knowledge of the game, then you will domonate the battlefield.

-Xerath is a AP hungry ranged mage and is good at long range attacks. Xeraths range allows him to domonate the battlefield while opponets are still far away. Xerath is a good bottom and mid laner. You can chose either one and both are explained in this guide as well as multiple strageties for both.

Lore

In the ancient civilization of Shurima, the mage called Xerath practiced magic with undying passion. He believed that with enough magical power, he could gaze into the heart of Runeterra to know the secrets of history and the universe beyond. Such magic was beyond the limitations of a mortal body, but Xerath obsessively pursued a path to infinite power nonetheless. With every breakthrough he grew more and more powerful, yet not without consequence. Xerath's increasing arcane abilities wrought havoc on his physical form. Desperate, he undertook a dangerous ritual to transcend his dying body. The outcome would be immortality or self-destruction. Violent magic unleashed during the ritual caused devastation throughout Shurima, but when the dust settled, Xerath emerged as an ascended being of pure arcane energy.

Free of flesh and bone, Xerath held nearly infinite power at his command. However, in the wake of his chaotic ritual, the mages of Shurima feared his careless disregard for life would bring ruin to the kingdom. After a terrible struggle they subdued Xerath, but they could not destroy his ascended form. Instead they trapped him within an enchanted sarcophagus and sealed him in an underground tomb. Eons passed, civilizations rose and fell, and Xerath's imprisonment was lost to memory. For centuries, Xerath's vast power tore away at the sarcophagus and weakened its spell. Finally, he willed forth a burst of magic that shattered his prison, but its core remained, containing Xerath and his power within its broken pieces. Seeking to rid himself of this burden, he was drawn to the magic of Valoran's nexuses and found he could absorb their power. Yet the nexuses had gatekeepers: petty mages known as summoners. Xerath knew his key to true freedom from his prison lay in gaining their trust, and he offered his power to the League of Legends.

“I have no need for vengeance. Time has brought ruin to the mages of Shurima and I alone remain.”

Abilities

ARCANOPULSE: Xerath's main ability. Shoots a beam of lightning in a straight line. Takes about 1 sec to charge. Use it early game to poke at your enemies. Its a great combonation with {MAGE CHAINS} to stun your target.
LOCUS OF POWER: Cost no mana. Immoblizes Xerath for a 8 seconds and allows him to have a dramatic range increase on all abilities. This is extremely useful for long-range attacks and for using {ARCANOPULSE} on enemies who are trying to run away.
MAGE CHAINS: A ability that will follow its target until it hits. When it hits an enemy, it places a ward above that enemy for 3 sec and deal moderate damage. If the enemy is hit with another ability from Xerath, that enemy will become stunned for 2 sec.
ARCANE BARRAGE: Xerath ultimate and most power attack. He calls down a beam of arcane from the sky, dealing high magic damage to an enemy. He can use this ability 3 times before going on cooldown. The other 2 shots cost no mana. Can be used with {MAGE CHAINS}. Use as an opener with {MAGE CHAINS} or if you target is about to die.

Summoner Spells

EXHAUST: This is a good summoner spell, it can be offensive or defensive, depending on yoru situation. For Xerath, its another way to slow your enemy down and rain hell on them with your abiliies. The slow is also good if your teamates want to gank, so you slow, stun and then help with the gank.

FLASH: A good escape tool and can be used to close distance on your target. You can switch this out for GHOST if needed. This is mainly used as a utility spell.

Items

DORANS RING: Simple mage item for starters. Sell when you get your last item.

SORCERER SHOES: A must have by LV 6. It increases the damage you do by a large anmoumt, plus the movement speed.

RYALI'S CRYSTAL SCEPTER: Great for HP and AP item. the passive slow makes it easier for you to land arcanopulse.

RABADON'S DEATHCAP: Great AP item, and the passive inceases it greatly. Works well with passive.

ROD OF AGES: Good HP and MANA for Xerath, plus that little AP.

WILL OF THE ANCIENTS: Good AP and spellvamp, plus gives the advantage buff to your teamates.

ZHONYA'S HOURGLASS: Great extra armor, extra AP, and the passive allows you to take no damage for 2 sec, but you cannot move when you do.

The Combonation

Xerath is great at taking down single targets. These combos will show you how to take them down easily.

BEFORE LV 6

1. MAGE CHAINS + ARCANOPULSE

2. LOCUST OF POWER + MAGE CHAINS + ARCANOPULSE

AFTER LV 6

1. MAGE CHAINS + ARANCE BARRAGE + ARCANOPULSE

2. ARCANE BARRAGE + LOCUST OF POWER + MAGE CHAINS + ARCANOPULSE

3. MAGE CHAIN + ARCANOPULSE + ARCANE BARRAGE

These should help you take down targets. You can see which one works for you, or you can combine them to see what you need in a different situation.

How to Play Xerath

BOTTOM LANE (LV 1-3): Poke your enemies with {ARCANOPULSE}. Don't charge anything. Just stay back and use {ARCANOPULSE} while enemies are in range. Hiding in the brush works well. Wait for the enemies to walk by then attack with {ARCANOPULSE}. ]{ARCANOPULSE} is a high damage attack and will send most enemies running if they get hit. Keep them back with this ability.

BOTTOM LANE (LV 4-6): Continue to poke enemies with {ARCANOPULSE}. You can be aggressive at this stage if you want. Combine {MAGE CHAINS} and {ARCANOPULSE} so stun enemies and let your teamate do some damage. If you have a chance, you can flash in and try to go for a kill by using {LOCUS OF POWER} and either {ARCANOPULSE} or {MAGE CHAINS} or both if needed. Try not to rush or get into any positions that you might die in.

BOTTOM LANE (LV 7-18): Continue doing the same stuff you did in (LV 4-6). You can take more chances once you gain a lot of AP. Stack AP, go nothing else. Corner enemies and use {MAGE CHAINS} then {ARCANOPULSE} and last but not least {ARCANE BARRAGE} to finish them off. If they still live, chase a little and use {LOCUS OF POWER} with either {MAGE CHAINS} and/or {ARCANOPULSE}. NEVER GO IN THE WOODS.

MID LANE (LV 1-6): In mid lane your main job is to not die and lv as fast as you can. From (LV 1-6) you need to stay back and poke enemies with {ARCANOPULSE}, while killing minions at the same time. If you have the chance, attack the enemy champ. Just make sure you dont die.

MID lANE (LV 7-18): Help other lanes if needed. Keep killing opponents. Try to find weak targets to take out. Dont be afraid to take a chance, just make sure you can come out alive.

Summary

Well, thank you for reading my little reference guide. Xerath is squish, so remember that. Xerath is best with a jungler, eps with combo number 3, so remember, if you dont have a jungler, Xerath might not be the best choice. Please comment for any updates to the guide or reviews! Thanks!
