One of the great things about Riot Games is that they’re so involved in their communities. You won’t see many other game forums where the developers and CEO’s post on a regular basis. Riot also greatly supports fan creations and sites rather than looking for lawsuits like some other game companies. These qualities of Riot Games have contributed to the growth of both their community and their game. In this post I will highlight some of the outlets that Riot Games uses to showcase its player creations.
Summoner Showcase – This is Riot’s main outlet for showing off what their fans can do! Any kind’ve creation based off League of Legends can be featured here, you just have to submit your creation and summoner name to Summoner_Showcase@RiotGames.com. If you’re lucky your creation will end up on a video hosted by the popular Nikasaur!
Fan Creation Forums – In the official forums there is a section for Fan Art, Fan Fiction, and Champion Concepts. Fans have contributed to the creation of ingame content such as the skin Corporate Mundo. The fact that this has happened in the past gives a lot of hope to the fan art community that their ideas might someday come to fruition.
DeviantArt Group – There’s even an official Riot-backed group on the popular art site DeviantArt. Nikasaur and others help run the group and keep things fresh by having different “Champions of the Month” that they feature art for. As a user of DeviantArt myself, it’s great to see some of your favorite artist’s renditions of champions and skins. Sometimes it’s hard to tell the difference between official Riot Art and fan art!
Art Contests – As shown by Riot’s Art of the Revelry contest there are many amazing artists that play League of Legends. Over 3,500 entries were received, which is the most participation in any League of Legends contest to date.
Completely agree, it's so cool Riot are so active with the amount of active people in an upward spiral. We're active so they're active so we are.
First thought - "Her main-gauche is held completely wrong". ********, knowing stuff about swords is a pain when you come to gaming. Really though, what the hell would you parry (or attack (in a way you couldn't with your main hand), for that matter) with that?
On second glance her stance sucks too. Her front foot should be facing the same way as her weapon.
This is why artists need to research! :O I know how you feel with seeing incorrect things in fanart. ;P
I completely agree!
As an épéeist myself (and, naturally, someone with great interest in medieval combat) one of the many things that annoys me that has been almost accepted nowadays is back scabbards (fun fact - they never actually existed in medieval times). Hey, who am I to judge when I have one in my signature - but that's in a completely different universe (yay epic fantasy) so I'm fine with that. If something's supposed to be medieval (like Braveheart) and they use back scabbards I get angry.
I guess people can't help it, and I'm not going to lecture that fine piece of artwork's creator for such a mistake (even though it does look like she should be attacking the other way if you only saw her waist down) about it, I guess it's just that I pick up on that because I know a lot more than your average layman about the subject.
