just a few days ago a bunch of screens from the dev kit were leaked, most notably an overview of the hardware. i could read a bunch of jargon out but i'll get to the juicy bits.

firstly, it will utilize different power states so that it is always on. when not in use, it will draw minimum amount of power. that and 'always on, always connected' will also download updates for your games when they become available. though for starters obviously this is a form of drm, requiring you to be on the internet always.

coupled that with the fact that discs are only for distribution, that it will fully install onto your harddrive, pretty much confirms that microsoft is going ahead with blocking used games. add that with the fact that each 'durango' will have built in kinect, that will also always be on, and this patent thing:

Quoted:
A content presentation system and method allowing content providers to regulate the presentation of content on a per-user-view basis. Content is distributed an associated license option on the number of individual consumers or viewers allowed to consume the content. Consumers are presented with a content selection and a choice of licenses allowing consumption of the content. The users consuming the content on a display device are monitored so that if the number of user-views licensed is exceeded, remedial action may be taken.

microsoft seems to be going all out on making sure no one is going to buy the 'durango'.

of course, you'll most likely still have to pay for live. and it also seems that the xbox wont be able to play media off of a disc, so no disc movies either.

That sounds really bad, and I think it's very possible that this could actually happen; I don't put it beneath Micro$oft to try to **** their customers as hard as they can. (edit: Micro$oft is the biggest offender of EU law with over 2.2billion euros in fines, lol)

But in the end... I don't think I mind this happening if it sets an example. If Durango flops really hard because of all the ********, then other publishers/devs hopefully won't make the same mistakes.
That would make a better market for us consumers in the end.

Durango is the hero Gotham deserves.

i don't mind it happening at all. plus, theres no need to have 3 consoles. the best times imo was when there was only 2.

That sounds awful. I was actually looking forward to upgrading my xbox360, as the disk drive thing gets stuck nowadays, so you have to pry it open with a knife.

Siiiiigh... looks like my knife-prying days aren't over.

Nintendo did the first step to obviously ripping off their own customers...

But seeing the alternatives...

It seems to be by far the lesser evil, and that while I'm owning a Wii myself.
