Teamfight Tactics Patch 13.14 - Invokers EVERYWHERE

Besides all of the Soul Fighter content coming in this TFT patch, we're getting heavy shifts of power towards a specific three-cost - Invoker. UPDATE: It's already nerfed!

TFT Patch 13.14 is bringing drastic changes to the current metagame.

Huge nerfs to the dominating Slayer (Trait) along with absurd buffs to Invokers are turning everything upside down. This is leaving the gates open for new comps to take the throne.

And if we also include into the mix the buffs to units that got nerfed at 13.13 (Garen, Zeri, and Aphelios), we are set up for an interesting patch for Teamfight Tactics.

Besides all of the balance changes, this patch also marks the start of the new Soul Fighter Event, which is already on live servers with a gamepass, special new game mode (Soul Brawl), mini legends and much more. To read further details about it, you can check this entry.

UPDATE: Mid-Patch Update July 20th

Invokers and Akshan are easily the favorite units/traits to play among tacticians in TFT patch 13.14. This is mostly because of how overtuned they got. Riot is aware of that, so before letting the lobbies be dominated by Invoker forcers throughout this patch cycle, they decided to tune them down (Especially before we see more clips of TFT streamers complaining about it).

Nerfs to Taric and Invokers

The recent buffs to the Invoker trait made it so players quickly figured out ways to abuse the newfound Targon invincibility (Oh Taric...), making it impossible to shred the front line, let alone kill the backline with your rogue units due to the immense healing from Soraka. That's no more.

  • Karma Inner Flame Damage: 180/270/445 ⇒ 170/255/420
  • Soraka Astral Infusion Heal: 200/225/250 ⇒ 170/190/220
  • Soraka Astral Infusion Empowered Heal: 50% ⇒ 40%
  • Taric Mana nerf: 0/55 ⇒ 0/65
  • Taric Radiance Shield Duration: 6 ⇒ 4 seconds

Akshan Nerfs

The buffs to Akshan weren't that necessary, according to Riot, because just a few days after patch 13.14 hit the servers they are already reverting a few of his buffs (bugfix stays).

  • Akshan max Mana nerf: 30/90 ⇒ 30/110
  • Akshan Comeuppance Bullet AD Ratio: 130% ⇒ 125%

Recent gameplay of Akshan

Are these changes taking out Invokers from the Meta picture? Probably not, they are still standing at the top... but at least they can be contested more.

Original Teamfight Tactics 13.14 Patch Notes

Trait buffs and nerfs. Shadow Isles is better, Strategist lose strength

Traits nerfs to the powerful traits such as Slayer and even more nerfs to Piltover's T-Hex. Regarding buffs to traits, Shadow Isles are getting better and improvements to the most powerful Void creatures, Rift Herald HP and damage are up along with Baron Base HP getting larger.

Nerfs to Traits in TFT Patch 13.14

Slayers were too dominant, especially Zed and Kayle reroll comps, so now they have less Omnivamp (15 ⇒ 12%), and the damage threshold is being lowered to 60% from 75%.

Nerfs list

  • Piltover T-Hex, another round of damage nerfs to Hextech Breath - 360 ⇒ 325
  • Bugfix to Multicaster's (Less damage) - Multicaster 4’s bonus casts now have the intended 60% reduced effectiveness instead of 50%
  • Strategist AP is being lowered - 20/30/50/70 ⇒ 15/25/40/60

Buffs to Traits in TFT Patch 13.14

The biggest buffs have to be the Shadow Isles ones, the extra duration of the shield with the bugfix (all instances of damage proc the Spectral Form), will make the units stronger and especially turn Gwen into a powerhouse thanks to her changes (Which we will go over down below).

Buffs list

  • Demacia Armor and MR buffed
  • Void Baron and Rift Herald are being buffed with increased HP (and Herald with damage), and Remora is being nerfed.
  • Rogue 4 is stronger (more bleed damage), and QoL changes to the dash mechanic.

Units buffs and nerfs

Invokers are getting a huge set of changes, specially Soraka and Karma, and with Taric buffs they are possibly propelling to being the best comps in this patch. Also, this patch includes a ton of buffs to lesser-cost units to improve most early game boards (Samira, Cassiopeia, Orianna).

Regarding nerfs the most noticeable one has to be Zed, that despite not looking as big, they are massive if we take into account the hit to the Slayer trait. So expect much less Zed priority and more Setts in your games.

Let's jump into the changes.

TFT Patch 13.14

Neither Ahri(Big one) or Zeri changes are listed in the image

Cost 1

The biggest buffs are for the Sorcerers (Orianna and Malzahar), Cassiopeia, and Cho'Gath.

Nerfs are to the contested Jhin, Poppy 4-Star Upgrade Aoe Stun, and Viego's ability damage.

Buffs List

  • Malzahar Call of the Void Damage: 175/260/395 ⇒ 200/300/450
  • Malzahar Call of the Void Shield Destruction: 35% ⇒ 50%
  • REWORKED Orianna Command: Protect: Orianna shields her lowest-health ally and empowers her next attack to deal bonus magic damage.
  • Orianna Command: Protect Damage: 190/285/430 ⇒ 260/390/585
  • Samira Mana buff: 0/40 ⇒ 0/30
  • Samira Flair AD ratio: 200% ⇒ 175%
  • Cho’Gath HP on Feast kill: 30 ⇒ 30/35/40
  • Cho’Gath Feast Damage HP ratio: 10% ⇒ 12%

Nerfs List

  • Poppy Steadfast Hammer 4-star Upgrade AOE stun: 1 sec ⇒ .25 sec
  • Viego Blade of the Ruined King stab Damage: 125/185/280 ⇒ 110/165/250
  • Jhin Ionia Bonus AD: 30% ⇒ 20%

Cost 2

Substantial changes to Soraka and Galio, especially the Gargoyle heal and Soraka's ability damage, these changes alone will make the Invokers get much stronger in the early game (A previous weakness).

Ashe Volley and Jinx Fishbones AD Ratio up. Teemo Noxious Trap Damage buffed and a few sets of changes to Swain Bonus HP during his Demonflare (Ability), and mana buffs.

The only two-cost unit getting a Nerf is Zed. Less base AD (60 ⇒ 55), and ability damage getting lowered (25/40/60 ⇒ 25/40/50).

Cost 3

Garen is getting a few compensation buffs (Ratios improved) after the heavy nerfs in patch 13.13. But, the biggest changes for this patch have to be Karma and Taric ones, turning the viable units into the most contested in the current meta (link to invoker leduck karma).

Last but not least, the stellar unit in patch 13.13c, Akshan, is getting even stronger while Katarina is getting the Nerf hammer.

The strongest units - Karma and Taric

Karma was in a relatively good spot in patch 13.13c, but with this buff she's skyrocketing into the S+ tier easily.

  • Karma Inner Flame damage from 155/230/390 to 180/270/445

The other Invoker/Bastion receiving buffs is Taric. The three-cost shield is stronger and the mana is lowered.

  • Taric Mana buff: 40/90 to 0/55
  • Taric Radiance Shield: 400/475/550 to 550/650/750

Buffs list

  • Rek'Sai Furious Bite True damage threshold (60% ⇒ 70%).
  • Garen Judgment Base Spin damage is increased from 1.8 to 2, the AD ratio per spin is also increased - 70/72/75% ⇒ 72/75/80%.

Nerfs list

  • Katarina Voracity (Ability) Damage lowered - 145/220/360 ⇒ 130/195/320
  • Rek'Sai Execute heal lowered - 15% ⇒ 10% of max Health
  • Karma Ionia Bonus AP from 30 to 20.

Akshan - List of Changes

  • Akshan's Comeuppance Bullet (Ability). Now only every other bullet from his ability counts as an attack for items like Guinsoo’s Rageblade, Runaan’s Hurricane, etc.
  • Akshan Comeuppance Bullet AD ratio 125% ⇒ 130%
  • Akshan Comeuppance is no longer interruptible by crown control.

Cost 4

Buffs to many of the nerfed units in patch 13.13. Aphelios and Zeri are getting well-deserved love, Lux getting even stronger (Don't know why), and Gwen getting tankier and smarter (quite literally). Not many nerfs directed towards cost 4 units, besides Yasuo who was dominating most lobbies.

Buffs list

  • Gwen Snip Snip! Dash AI is smarter, and her Armor & MR buff duration is higher - 2/2.5/4 ⇒ 3/3/6 sec.
  • Lux's ability has higher damage and can not be interrupted by CC.
  • Urgot mana buff. 0/100 to 30/90
  • Zeri AD is higher and overcharge duration it's also increased.
  • Aphelios AD increased - 60 ⇒ 65.
  • Sejuani now gains the shield instantly after using her ability

Nerfs list

  • Yasuo Last Breath Single Target Damage Ratio from 500/500/1500% AD to 475/475/1500% AD

Cost 5 units

Cost 5 have felt underwhelming in this TFT set 9 - Runeterra Reforged. This patch things are changing up though.

Significant buffs to Aatrox and Ahri.

Aatrox ultimate is improved, Darkin revive animation speed has been increased. World Ender cast animation speed increased. Mana buff 0/60 to 0/50 and Armor/Magic Resist buffed from 60 to 70.

Ahri Essence Thief overall cast time reduced, she returns now to attacking more quickly after casting. The 3rd Essence Thief cast wind-up time is significantly reduced.

The only 5-cost unit that is overperforming is Bel'Veth (Mostly in fast 9 comps) so she's getting nerfed. Keep in mind though, she's been compensated with Quality of Life changes with a bugfix on her ability and faster movement in Empress form.

Legends - Adjustments in TFT Patch 13.14

After the mess with legends in both patches 13.12 and 13.13 (along with both B and C hotfix patches), we have finally reached a point where tons of Legends are viable to play. So with this patch we only receive two changes to Legends: Draven and Veigar.

Draven:

  • Spoils of War II/III: Re-added a small chance to drop multiple gold on kill on stage 3 and beyond.

Veigar:

  • Tiny Power I AD, AP, AS: 8 ⇒ 7
  • Tiny Power II AD, AP, AS: 11 ⇒ 10
  • Tiny Power III AD, AP, AS: 18 ⇒ 16

Misc: Small trait, unit, and augment changes

  • Bruiser Bonus Health %: 10/35/70% ⇒ 10/40/70%
  • Deadeye Bonus Damage: 20/65/140% ⇒ 20/65/150%
  • Juggernaut Max Damage Reduction: 25/35/50 ⇒ 25/40/50
  • Zaun Robotic Arm Bonus Attack Chance: 60% ⇒ 50%
  • Renekton Cull the Meek wind-up time slightly reduced
  • Salvage Bin now deconstructs craftable emblems
  • Gifts From Above now correctly renamed to Spectral Supplies
  • Double Trouble Now grants the two star units directly rather than giving them in an orb.
  • Scrappy Inventions temporarily removed from Double Up!

System Changes in TFT Patch 13.14

Tons of changes to improve those late-game pivots (Elder Dragon), more loot orbs in the Pve Rounds, and huge buffs to less popular Region Portals (Petricite Fores and Yuumi's Zoom Zone are wayyy better).

  • Elder Dragon - Health 10000 ⇒ 12000
  • Pve Loot Orbs - Krugs, Wolves, and Raptors will now always drop at least 2 orbs.
  • Training Dummy - Training Dummy Attack Damage: 0 ⇒ 50. Training Dummy will now appear in the combat tracker

Region Portals

  • REWORKED Yuumi’s Zoom Zone: When you buy XP, gain an additional 2.
  • REWORKED Petricite Forest: Start the game with 3 component anvils.
  • What The Forge (Augment) can no longer be taken in Noxkraya (grants items on arena hexes)
  • Warlord’s Palace Treasure Dragon reroll cost 2 ⇒ 1

Strongest Unit Criteria

The criteria for the strongest unit has been made consistent. This change affects things like Shurima Ascension buff, Yordle 4-starring, Demacia Radiant items, Ionia bonus, and Lesser Jeweled Lotus selection.

Criteria for deeming the strongest unit: The unit with the most items is the strongest, with ties broken by which unit was most recently fielded.

Mana Reave

Reducing the impact of the Mana Reave debuff that is just too potent at denying big spell casts. Mana Reaves have been reduced to 30% from 35% for all sources. This affects: Ahri, Freljord, Shroud of Stillness.
