is it worth getting some skills at level 7/8?

i've seen guides and players that say some skills just aren't worth getting till level 8/7. i don't think this is a good idea but i've been wondering about it a lot lately. i've never done this unless i'm playing karthus because aqua dragon can convince me to get wall of pain at 7. or never buy health pots as kog maw.

I don't think Aqua Dragon guides are the most "noob" friendly guides out there. He plays his stuff in master elo with master tier knowledge and he may manage to pull some things off through lots of experience with the champions he plays.

I would just take every ability by level 4 and take health potions for sustain.

    iirc hes d5 rn

regardless what he does is cheese - they work in niche scenarios. in most cases you'll want to get QWE early on

99% of the times on 99% of the champions you should have all 3 skills by level 4. The scaling of most skills is never as good as the initial one point of any other skill. That said, sometimes a skill gives you something that's not worth the mana/utility, like Ezreal's W or Warwick's E (I'd still get ww's E at level 5 though). Those two are mostly situational, and I'm not sure about Karthus, but I'm guessing the wall may not be mandatory IF you somehow KNOW the enemy jungle won't be ganking, or you can't do much about their ganks, like against Vi (and you'll still lose lots of 1v1 potential).

I don't know how the kog'maw question is related to this...

I sometimes go Q->W->Q then W if the enemy jungler is top or ganked and is low, to take an early dragon at lvl 4. Of course you should still get your E by level 5 after that.

You always take WW's E at level 3/4. The only possibility for skipping a skill on Warwick is skipping W on Lanewick.

In about 80% of the matchups I get wall at level 8 on anivia for the extra damage/waveclear on Q. Wall is like the most worthless spell against high-mobility lanes.

I just had a Yasuo take his first point in Wind Wall at like level 7 or 8, but his lane was also against a melee heavy champion as well as their jungle being melee heavy. So he didn't really have a need to take it until the team fights started break out. But those cases are very rare and like everyone else is saying 99 times out of a hundred take a point in all skills before level 7.
