Introduction

Rengar is a melee AD assassin that focuses on killing the enemy carries and snowball the teamfights.

Rengar got reworked, that completely changed his matchups and buffed his late game.
I am a Plat V player and I main this champion since day 1. This guide is an on-going project that gets updated weekly!

Credits to ninfang(ryan choi) because I learned a lot from him.

Early Game

]Start:
I always start dorans blade, I never feel like I need to start with a dorans shield. I used to start red pot way back then but then I was still able to get First Blood with dorans so red pot just felt like a waste. I will try it again and update this tho.

]1st Back:

If you can afford a pickaxe go for it. If you need sustain then buy a vamp scepter. If you can't afford a pickaxe or you just want lane control buy a couple of dorans blades and/or a shield.

]After the Laning Phase:

Your goals by level 11 should be having a tiamat and a last whisper. These 2 allow you to kill the carries with no problem.

]Team-Fight Phase:

If your fed and Snowballing get a Trinity Force. If not get a brutalizer and finish GhostBlade and then Hydra followed by Trinity.

]Late Game:

If your just stomping and having fun get a Black Cleaver. If its just super late game and its anyone's game get Randuins/Sunfire or Randuins/Spirit Visage.

Why this Build?

Damage Dealt to ADC (at level 18)=1203 True Damage
CDR(lv18)=30%
Penetration: 20 + 35%
Life Steal: 12%
Movement Speed Without Boots!

Individual Damage:
Last Whisper: 513
Ravenous Hydra: 571
The Black Cleaver: 470
The Bloodthirster: 519
Trinity Damage: 533
Youmuu's Ghotsblade: 474

Hydra > Trinity > Bloodthirster = Last Whisper > Youmuu's = Black Cleaver

Cost Efficiency (Dmg/Cost)

Last Whisper: 0,223
Ravenous Hydra: 0,173 (+12%Lifesteal)
The Black Cleaver: 0,15 (+200Hp + 10 CDR)
The Bloodthirster: 0,16 (+16%Lifesteal)
Trinity Force: 0,143 (+Crit+Movement Speed)
Youmuu's Ghostblade:0,175 (+Crit+Movement Speed+ CDR+Attack Speed)

Last Whisper > Youmuu's = Hydra > Bloodthirster = Black Cleaver > Trinity Force

In Conclusion:
Black Cleaver just sucks!
Bloodthirster not very cost Eff. and medium damage.
Hydra deals the most damage and is also pretty cost efficient.
Youmuu's offers so much utility and is pretty cost efficient.
Last Whiper is the most cost efficient item and still deals good damage which means its and awesome early purchase.
Trinity deals makes your burst insane but its not very cost efficient.

Killing the carries

Strategy:

Make sure you always have 5 ferocity before you ult. You can throw Bolas(E) at the jungle camps so you stack ferocity while moving. Your assassination combo is:
5 ferocity->Ult-> Wait for the best opportunity to go in->Yoummus-> Q ->Leap->Q->E+W+Hydra->Q

If the carry has an escape (Corki/Ezreal) and he isnt beeing protected you can use the CC combo:

5 ferocity->Ult-> Wait for the best opportunity to go in-> E ->Leap->Q->E+W+Hydra->Q

When planning to kill the carry you need to know if you can kill them, how and how fed they are.

Can I kill them?
Some ADC's have escapes some don't. Therefore Jinx is easier to kill when compared to an Ezreal. If your facing a hard to kill ADC use your CC combo, hunt them in the jungle, and make sure their supp is not around.

How fed they are?
Draven for example. If he is fed he can most likely 1v1 you even if you land the first blow. But this is common knowledge.

Strategy:
The best thing about this matchup is the outplay potential you have. When he uses Q run to the bushes if he follows leap a minion. When it goes on CD BURST HIM. You can't win trades if he Q's you because of the silence. Level 6, if your not super ahead, be aware of his broken ult damage, I would recommend push lane and go mid or bot when he gets 6, but before 6 you should kill him a few times if you play it properly.Difficulty:

Strategy:
This is an awesome matchup because if you win you completely humiliate the player. I usually win this lane but Jax has everything to beat Rengar. Jax has no natural sustain and he wastes a lot of mana using his abilities. A Jax with no mana is useless. As always never leave bush, only to last hit and harass. The strategy is quite simple leap in with Q, then E and W but don't auto or do another Q as he will probably E you, if not you got a free trade when he gets low engage and kill him. He will out scale you, your dominance has a timer so make pressure somewhere else or in the top side of the map.Difficulty:

Strategy:
Level 1-2 Q him and leap him often as your Q Cd is much shorter than his E. Stay in bushes, and only get out to all-in or last hit, make u sure he can't Q you. All-in him when he uses abilities especially Q. When he reaches 6 never stay in a sustain fight always fight in short bursts. In a nutshell this lane is pretty easy but an experienced Lee Sin can snowball and become unstopable.

Nidalee TOP relies on auto attacks so dont leave bush, only to all in or last hit, but immediatly run back. Sustain her poke and Q+W->E her sometimes once you have full-ferocity all in her and kill her you will always out trade her. Just make sure you know your damage and you have enough HP.

This lane is pretty easy. Whenever she uses her Q's go in on her. Whenever you have full ferocity go in even if she has Q's. Before 6 you should kill her a couple of times. Don't screw up, if you do tables will turn. When she gets 6 destroy tower and roam, if your really far ahead and you want to exploit her then keep killing her, but you should help your team has this matchup should make you fed.Difficulty:

There's not much into this lane. In the early levels leap q back off and repeat. Do this often and u negate his sustain. He also has mana problems. To be honest you outdamage him, you out sustain him so where's the problem? If you stay in bushes he can't Q you and when he Q's you when you use your burst you already won the trade. Make sure to ward as ganking for a warwick is easy.Difficulty:

This lane is pretty easy. Whenever he uses Q go in and use your burst. His Q damage gets reduced if it goes through minions. You have more damage and more sustain so there is no reason not to win, just make sure you always fight with 3+ ferocity.

Patches

Patch 4.9:
Bug Fix: Rengar's Q can no longer critically strike.
This is not very important, it just means that sword of the divine is not even an option anymore for those who used it.
