Hello, FOURmer Jhin players!
I'm KuuHaKu_OtgmZ, streamer at Twitch and currently ranked Gold IV (not so high-elo eh?), scoring almost 150k mastery points with Jhin and I play as him since I know myself as ADC. Played at almost every lane (except jungle) to test his limits and got a nice conclusion: Jhin is OP regardless of his lane.
So let's start my guide to botlane!
TL;DR
Jhin is a champion like no other, his mechanics and playstyle fits him in pretty much all roles, having extreme range and damage makes farming and executing really easy on any game phase, although lacking mobility his kit is great for preventing lane ganks or escape attempts.
One of the advantages of following this guide is that very few people REALLY knows how to play against Jhin, and even fewer when using this build. Should be noted, however, that while Jhin is extremely powerful, he requires near-perfection when doing everything, be it farming or trading, so it's HIGHLY advised to train skillshots and resource management.

I tried to stay using Dark Harvest, but what can I do when Electrocute is INSANELY powerful on Jhin? Maybe you're thinking: "Meh, but how will Jhin use Electrocute when he lacks attack speed?" - well, actually he's one of the easiest champions to use it due to his quick combo being target skills. Anyway, remember to use Electrocute to win a couple hundred games before Riot nerf this!
It's pretty much the only rune in this row that Jhin can use, as he doesn't have a great CC for Cheap Shot and have no dash or teleport for Sudden Impact.
Eyeball Collection is a little shiny gem just awaiting to be picked up. While it might not be great for killing machines, it does give you a nice boost during laning phase, as long as you pay attention to negating enemy vision. Also your jungler will thanks for you clearing lane bushes!
Now this is where we need to choose between Ultimate Hunter's ultimate cooldown reduction or Ravenous Hunter's lifesteal per skill damage, it really depends on how you play, but the lifesteal has saved me a million times when I was about to die until I shot someone with my Curtain Call. |
This keystone is absolutely broken, no more no less. Prototype: Omnistone gives you enough versatility to have the upper hand during almost the whole match! Sure, you'll not have a fixed keystone to rely on at all times, but you'll have the surprise factor anytime you trade with your enemy.
Jhin rarely if ever used the inspiration tree because most keystones here were a bit underperformed on him. But now that we have a great one, why don't get some free shoes? It's FREE real estate!
While Biscuit Delivery could help a bit, having enter in debt to buy items is great. Sure, you'll still pay for it later, but you'll almost always stay one item ahead of your enemy, which can corner him in having to farm safely to catch you up!
All three runes are great in this section, so I'd say to choose based on the actual matchup. However, Cosmic Insight is a little better with this build since you'll be able to poke a lot faster than usual, and have faster summoner spells to use whenever you deem necessary. |
Actually it's working better than Celerity due to recent patches, so take this rune and get a little lead in the laning phase.
As they nerfed our beloved Dark Harvest we need to compensate the damage loss with another source, Coup de Grace does that well by giving us increased damage against low health enemies.
Jhin is an ADC, however the extra attack speed wouldn't help us at all in this build when compared to the extra AD (which is increased by Jhin's passive), nor the extra cooldown reduction. About the extra armor or magic resist? Nah, we're squishy, the extra damage will help more. Also, the extra health shard might save you from some wrong trades! |
|
|
This is what makes Jhin have the hardest hitting auto-attack in the game ( Draven's axes are weak without Spinning Axe, which is a skill) at the cost of being unable to gain attack speed. Basically this passive is what makes Jhin unique and hard to play as you're entirelly dependant on correctly positioning during fights and a wrong shot can cost your trade.
|
|
Don't think that just because you might be good at hitting Miss Fortune's Double Up you're going to have easy time learning Dancing Grenade's mechanics, sorry but it simply isn't a single target skill, not even a double target skill, you'll need to take into account the target's health AND it's three immediate allies in the SHORTEST angle and path. That said, it's really a waste trying to land the Dancing Grenade's first bounce in the enemy champion, always try to bounce as many times as possible on dying enemies to increase grenade's damage (also, you CANNOT escape Dancing Grenade once you're the next target).
|
|
The longest non-ultimate skill in the game, contrary to what you may think, this isn't an offensive skill at all, sure, you can snipe people with it, but it's better used as long range CC to reach your targets, ultimate's starter, or simply stop someone from moving.
During teamfights, this skill is better used to help your team reach enemy's carry, to do this ask any ally to cause any form of damage on him so you can proc Deadly Flourish's root.
You can flash while channeling.
|
|
Although not so useful at first glance, this skill provides enough time and zone control for securing lane entrances, as there aren't any limits for deployed Lotus traps you can spam it everywhere, just not place it on minion's path as they can trigger it's explosion, revealing hidden traps. A skilled Jhin player will be able to use traps during all-in bursts.
Optimal trap placement
Those spots cover most of lane entrances and trade points:
(Blue side)
- 1 on enemy bush - Prevents enemies from using bush for getting in position or for lane ganking.
- 1 on enemy alcove entrance - Prevents enemies from entering/exiting the alcove to surprise you/escape.
- 1 on the ally river corner + 2 on the river entrance - Prevents enemy jungler from ganking, marks for Deadly Flourish's root.
- 1 on ally tribush - Prevents rear gank.
- 1 on drake's pit - Spot enemy jungler before trying to capture the drake.
- 1 on ally tower entrance - Prevents rear gank.
- 2 on river bush + 1 on the river entrance - Prevents enemy jungler from ganking, marks for Deadly Flourish's root.
- 1 on enemy tribush - Spot enemies trying to ward or pass through it.
- 1 on enemy bush - Prevents enemies from using bush for getting in position or for lane ganking.
- 1 on enemy alcove entrance - Prevents enemies from entering/exiting the alcove to surprise you/escape.
- 1 on ally tribush - Prevents rear gank.

Again, the longest non-global ultimate in the game. How many champions can snipe people 2 screens away? This skill is one of the reasons I love to play as Jhin, you can be in a teamfight without being inside the chaos.
To use this skill effectively, NEVER EVER try to kill a full life enemy, you'll simply cause no significant damage, instead try to chunk some life from an enemy so you can certainly execute with your ultimate (50% health is a good amount).
To fire your ultimate, deploy by pressing R, then press R again to shoot up to four shots (if you move or is CC'ed it will cancel the channeling).
The following combos were tested in normal games, used practice tool just to record the whole sequence in a clean environment. Some combos require you to be at level 18 for full attack speed
Basic Combos
Poke Combo #1
> |
> |
> |
> |
|
You will most of time use this combo as it's unavoidable and grant a quick damage burst.
This combo is required for almost all advanced combos.
Difficulty:
The three initial bounces must be made on dying targets, otherwise the Dancing Grenade will deal the same damage as Poke Combo #1. This combo deals a lot of damage and allows a follow-up from your support or jungler.
Difficulty:
Although simple at first glance, this combo provides a quick stun for engages, or a follow-up for you support's engage.
This combo is required for almost all advanced combos.
Difficulty:
This combo requires certain timing to land Deadly Flourish at the exact time Captive Audience triggers, but grants a lot of damage lategame.
This combo is required for almost all advanced combos.
Difficulty:
Trust me, this is the easiest combo to successfully land when compared to the following ones, I suggest you to pratice until they become your second nature. This combo will quickly chunk a lot of health from the enemy.
This combo is required for almost all advanced combos.
Difficulty:
The three initial bounces must be made on dying targets. This combo is an initiator, so a support follow-up is strongly advised. Deals great amount of damage and delays enemy reaction as this is a parallel combo (grenade goes one way, you go another).
Difficulty:
This combo prevents any attempt to run away from Jhin, by throwing the Lotus trap on the target's path it hinders it's mobility and forces the use of Flash to escape. Use this when chasing some or when trying to escape, as this can also help dealing with chasers.
Difficulty:
Probably insta-death to most non-tank champions, has to be done in quick succession to prevent enemy from reacting, but once rooted, it's survival chance is greatly reduced.
Difficulty:
The three initial bounces must be made on dying targets. Causes insta-kill to one or more targets depending on the situation, can destroy teamfights if you can rely on your allies.
Difficulty:
Dangerous and high rewarding combo, ensures that your Captive Audience and first two shots land successfully on your target. As you're basically at point blank range, this combo must only be done either when someone can protect you, or you enemies cannot reach you.
Difficulty:
Now, I know that you might have looked at the start of this guide and said "WTF is this build??", but trust me, even if it isn't apparent, this build has a LOT of sustain thanks to the runes. While it is a lot harder to get used to using this one, it does reward well those who master it!
You'll always be able to return with at least one damage item, and will certainly have a LOT more damage-per-return than your usual critical chance build, just be careful not to lower your guard since you're still an ADC, and you're just one - get stunned and you're done!

This guy, this FRIGGIN' guy is your best friend, he's like your personal death-on-demand-wall-of-Trump support, no other champion has such synergy with Jhin. |
Every player knows WHY Blitzcrank is here, he is able to basically put enemy ADC right in front of you. PULL -> KILL -> REPEAT. | Again another pull champion appears on the list, and speaking of list, who's better to talk about it other than Pyke? Its godlike engage skills help so much when needing to score a kill on any unaware champion. |

One year stun? OK. High damage? OK. Insane combo with Jhin? OK. Botlane has never been so lag-inducing. | She's pure hatred, a skilled Morgana player can turn even the most pure player into a puddle of rage. With Jhin it's no different, one year CC is enough to finish your art. | I know, she's not exactly a support, but even those who hate playing this role will enjoy seeing botlane burn in luminous tilt. Jhin just got his personal flashlight. |

Our warm sun, a beefy gold plated tower that likes to jump right into enemy's face with a CC-god kit, seriously, 3 CCs are more than enough even for the worst ADCs. | Now, you didn't expected this, right? But yeah, seems like for some reason Teemo with Jhin is a combo to be reckoned, not that it's now impossible to escape Jhin's traps, but also it's mostly impossible to focus him. | This fish is one of the most tank champions in the game, only lacks in quick CC. Can be a nice synergy when in hands of a skilled player. |

Same reason as Tahm Kench, even being literally a wall, his lack of quick CC requires a skilled player, hence why the low synergy rating. | Even being a godlike healer, this build requires a very aggressive champion as support, which doesn't fits for Soraka unless she does an AP build. | Really guys, I've tried many times to play with Lulu as my support, but I can't just find any combo or synergy with her. Calm down, I'm not saying that she's a bad support, just that I can't figure out how to work with her. |

Laning Phase |
Okay, so you pick Jhin for the first time, start the match and think:"I'm gonna do critical chance to farm easier".Sorry buddy, but with Jhin it isn't as simple as doing critical items, it's about feeling the pace, and dancing according to it. When playing as Jhin you must at all times use your bullets wisely, every single shot must have a meaning, there's no room for waste. Once you first reach the lane, 90% of the time you will need to help your jungler take the buff, so do yourself a favour and put a ward on the tribush if you're on the blue side, or on the river bush (the one close to your lane) if on the red side. Once you have your back covered, give your jungler 4 shots on the buff, nothing more nothing less, the time you take to position on the lane is the amount of advantage you'll have during the laning phase. Once the leash is done, run as fast as possible to reach the lane BEFORE the first 3 minions die, as you MUST throw at them your Dancing Grenade to quickly get 4 CS (fully charged 4th grenade hit + 1 shot), which will greatly help reaching level 2 before your enemies. For the next minions pay attention to their life, whenever there's 2 or more minions with low life next to each other send a grenade, HOWEVER do keep an eye on your mana and poke opportunities. Also always try to poke the enemy whenever they try to last hit, but NEVER forget to farm, it's what will make you strong during this phase. |
Skirmishes Phase |
Perhaps the most important phase, also known as Midgame. You finish your very first item, and suceeded in the laning phase, but then you overexceed yourself and try to all-in the enemy, just to be stunned by the enemy support and have a miserable death. You respawn and trying to compensate your mistake you all-in the enemy again, this time you manage to kill him, but you die to the minion wave. Do you see the error here? Nope?Well, the enemy has gotten 2 kills and an advantage of about 10-15 CS, you effectively made your lane WAY harder than it is by trying to kill the enemy in the wrong time, with the wrong engage at the wrong position. As Jhin, you shall only try to burst (never all-in) at midgame when:
Now, after you destroyed the enemy tower, you can either gank midlane or switch with the toplane. The latter is the most safe way of securing your team's advantage during the next 25 minutes, but the former is preferred if your team is willing to take an objective like drake or rift herald as you'll have extended vision of the lane and slows down their progress as they'll need to protect the remaining midlane and botlane towers. |
Teamfight Phase |
Lategame, the phase where teamfights break almost everywhere and respawns are slowing down. If you're behind, this is the time to start farming both jungle and lane, as you quickly need to get back on your feet before the next phase begins. Stay together with your team, it's crucial that you die as less as possible to build up your gear - this is the phase where Jhin's damage exponentially grows. Coordinate with your team to take as many objectives as possible to prevent the next phase from happening, or if it does happen, at least your team will have the major number of objectives. The teamfight phase is quite straightforward:
|
Sudden Death Phase |
The most intense phase of the match, when the time reaches ~40 min one single ace can mark the end of the game. It's absolute that you must try to stay alive AT ALL COSTS if you are the last alive, as Jhin can prevent the loss if correctly positioned. By this time you shall have all items done, all skills maximized and your team gathered, push as fast as possible to enemy Nexus (if your team has a strong splitpusher let him splitpush). If you're unable to reach their Nexus but destroyed one or more inhibitors, go try to capture baron nashor as it will be the fatal blow to the enemy team. At this phase remember that it's almost perma-death, so proceed wisely and focus on ending the match. |
Wait, what!?
Well, gauntlet (or running a gauntlet) was a method o punishment where one person had to run between two rows of soldiers which would beat the unfortunate person.
"But what does this have to do with League of Legends?" you might be asking, well, almost every player has been through this, but under the name of "gank"!
Now that you know what is a gauntlet, let's go straight to the point:
Rule #1: know your ganker
As Sun Tzu used to say, "Knowing your enemy is half the battle", and this is essential when you want to counter a gank attempt, so take at least 1 hour per day to go into training mode (or YouTube) to learn how every champion works.
Rule #2: see your ganker
Rule #3: answer your ganker
For this, try to stun him when he steps on a trap, or have your support (only if ranged, like Morgana) cast a spell on him. Most of the time he'll turn back and postpone his gank, buying you more time to finish off enemy laners.
Rule #4: be Jhin
Do you see Jhin panicking? Or going haywire and burning all spells?
Simple answer: No
When you chose Jhin at the champion selection, you were aware that he lacks mobility, you knew that unless you knew what you were doing, you'd most likely need to be carried by your team.
When you play as Jhin, you must stand your ground, you must play the whole match 5-10 minutes ahead of your enemy, and you have tools to do it! Unlike people use to think, Jhin (fourth mention) has a really strong kit to fight off multiple enemies, the only catch is that you cannot miss anything else your DPS will drop considerably.
Just keep calm and analyze the situation, there are many moments where with a single act you can turn the whole gauntlet in a double or triple kill!
As always, this guide wouldn't be possible without these awesome guys, so they deserve a dedicated section in their tribute:

Random facts:
- Jhin's name draws the number 4 on QWERTY keyboards;
- You can Flash during W animation;
- Jhin currently has the highest number of champion kills, which is 4 ( Zed, Garen, Sona and Vi);
- Blood Moon Jhin possibly killed Challenger Ahri and took her tails for his costume (unconfirmed);
- In the Hunters teaser, Jhin won the brawl (unconfirmed).
Well guys, I hope that this guide was helpful for everyone wanting to master Jhin, I'm open for suggestions and will try to keep this guide updated.
See ya!
TL;DR
|
|
|

Those spots cover most of lane entrances and trade points:
(Blue side)
- 1 no covil do dragão - Identifica o jungler inimigo caso tente capturar o dragão.
|
|

Regra #4: seja Jhin

Curiosidades:
- O nome Jhin desenha o número 4 em teclados QWERTY;
- Você pode usar o Flash durante a animação do W;
- Jhin atualmente possui a maior quantidade de mortes de campeões, que são 4 ( Zed, Garen, Sona e Vi);
- Jhin Lua Sangrenta possivelmente matou a Ahri Desafiante e pegou suas caudas para sua roupa (não confirmado);
- No trailer Caçadores, Jhin ganhou a briga (não confirmado).
