First let's talk about Trinity Force and Infinity Edge

They are both often picked as first or second item. Because they are core damage items. They both have their advantages and their weaknesses.

Regarding Infinity Edge. It's the best damage item in the game. Assuming you have some crit chance from other items. In other words. Infinity Edge isn't self sufficient. So basically, you need supporting items to make it work.

This actually makes Infinity Edge the best mid/late-game damage option. However, the downside is that you actually have to pay a lot of gold if you wanna see it work. Leaving you vulnerable early.

Now let's see what we have with Trinity Force. Basically it's a self-sufficient item. Which is better than Infinity Edge during the early stages of the game. However, since its rework, it doesn't outscale crit as it used to do. But still, a single Trinity Force is better than a single Infinity Edge.

Moreover, as I said, the last Trinity Force rework actually change the use of the item. Now it globally is an item for casters. This is why Ezreal is a good user of spellblade effect. But in Twisted Fate case. You don't benefit so much from cool-down reduction, and spell damages. Your DPS mostly coming from AA.

So basically if you compare Ezreal who is a spellblade user to Twisted Fate who's not. Twisted Fate has no spammable spell with a very short cool-down. He only has two medium cool-down spells. Then, Ezreal has AD ratios on most of his abilities, while Twisted Fate doesn't. And last, Ezreal's DPS highly relies on his ability to spam spells. While Twisted Fate relies on AA only ( stacked dec being passive). (Spamming spells resulting into an insane loss of time, and waste of mana)

And last, if you actually run a Trinity Force on Twisted Fate I don't really know how you would make it transit to mid/late-game. I guess it would end in a crit build anyway. And you'll realise that buying Trinity Force in a crit build doesn't work.

If you build it early, you actually will delay your DPS and be in a vulnerable position for a moment. And even then. When you have Trinity Force + Runaan's Hurricane + Infinity Edge. Another Twisted Fate will have Runaan's Hurricane + Infinity Edge + Rapid Firecannon. So basically, the second Twisted Fate will outscale the first one.
