This is a guide how to play The Real AP Malphite. Maybe you will think "WTF?! What is he talking about?", but don't worry. It will work! (in any case in Bronze and Silver). For Example (no, the enemies were NOT trolling):

Btw. Malphite works great as a support to (like I was and I "don't" steal any kills!). In the jungle lane he is also great (fck this AFK YASUO):

But in this guide, I show you his power in THE MID-LANE (I'm from germany and have not the best english skills, but I hope you will understand the POWER OF THIS GUIDE.

What is to say about Malphite? He is scaling on two things: Ability Power and Armor. His strongest Output Damage is his Q and his R, so we should focus on AP. But in THE REAL MALPHITE BUILD, we don't have a lot of CDR (only Iceborn Gauntlet gives you 10%). So we need some CDR in the runes, to cast more often his Q and R.

BUT he is scaling too on Armor?! Why you don't take Armor Runes? The thing is, that 9 ARMOR is in the late game with Zhonya's and Iceborn Gauntlet nothing! And Malphite will be squishy, so take this fcking 200 HP and have more life :D.

There is not much to say. YOU are the APC. YOU have to carry them. Take normal APC Masteries.

Luden's Echo and Rabadon's

This is a important thing. Malphite need AP to have a high damage output. His R is scaling 100% on AP and isn't really a skill-shot, you know? (I don't speak with the guys in Wood League 5). Luden's Echo is an important Core-Item. It gives you mobiliy (you need it to run away or chase an enemy and ult them), ability power AND his passive has a really nice burst!

Zhonya's Hourglass and Iceborn Gauntlet

Both Item's give you AP and Armor. Nice ;D. And Zhonya's Active can save you in some difficult positions and sometimes you need a few seconds CD. But an important rule: Only Bronze and Wood-Players use THE ACTIVE. Don't be such a p*ssy and fight like a man with Auto-Hits! Iceborn Gauntlet has btw CDR and Mana. Will help you to :)

Sorcerer's Shoes

Only idiots would take other boots on THE REAL MALPHITE.

Mana Potion's

This is a important thing! Only wimps uses Health Potion. You are going for the FULL DAMAGE. So spam your Q. But it needs a lot of Mana, so buy a lot of Potions. Btw I give you another tip: Mana Potion's are very effective on Garen (he is going to shine really cool and with coolness you can always win 8D).

Passive: Granite Shield

Malphite's Passive absorbs some damage. So try to trade, if your passive is up!

Seismic Shard

Your main ability! It deals 70/120/170/220/270 (+60% AP) magic damage and slows your enemies. Normally you have about 700 AP in full build (in troll build some more). Then your max Q deals 270 + 700*0.6 = 690 AP DMG. Your Luden's Passive is may ready, then you can deal on the ADC until 800 DMG with 1Q!. Against tanks it won't be so much, but even a lot.

Brutal Strikes

This ability has a passive: Malphite gains 10/15/20/25/30% additional armor. This sounds really nice (if you play against an AD Mid).

Ground Slam

This ability is really easy. You strikes on the ground and does damage! That's just awesome (I even have tried it, but if I do it, it doesn't work D:)! The scaling isn't that bad. On Max level we deal 220 + 0.3*200 + 0.2*700 = 420 AP Damage!. We will see, it is really hard for an ADC!

Unstoppable Force

Now we come to your kill guarant! The scaling is with 100% incredible, the range with 1000 awesome and you knock up your enemies and stun them. In Teamfights you are UNSTOPPABLE (I mean, your Ult's name is Unstoppable... SO you are unstoppable and kill them, because you are unstoppable and yeah, I'm the master of puns). The damage is just really high. On max we deal 400 + 1.0*700 = 1100 AP DAMAGE!!!!!! (you see the exclamation marks? That means, AP Malphite must be strong :D)

Ability Power

Let's look for some calculations. You runes (15AP) and masteries (22AP) give you 37 AP without Items. Furthermore, your Items (with Elexir of Sorcery) have 100 + 30 + 120 + 70 + 100 + 40 = 460AP. With Rabadon's Deathcap, Archmage and one Dragon Buff (1 Dragon is izy, if your team haven't one in minute 40, you are noobs) your AP will be increase about 46% of your AP Damage. That's (460 + 37) * 1.46 = 725 AP.


Malphite has 95.8 Armor at level 18. Your items bring you 60 + 50 = 110 Armor. And your passive gives you additional 30% armor. That's should be (95.8 + 110) * 1.3 = 268 armor!. Maybe you have armor runes. You will have (205.8 + 9) * 1.3 = 279 armor, but 11 armor are nothing.

One-Shoot the opposing ADC


In my game on the top you see a NOOB VAYNE (after the game she said "report Liss and Malph for destroy my nice day"... Really? B*tch). What I've done? An easy Combo:
  1. activate Malphite's W
  2. go in with your R
  3. make an Auto-Hit
  4. activate your Q and E
  5. You have a kill!
Your burst and CC is so hard, that you kill her in 1 second (really xD).

Calculation's with Vayne

Look for some calculations for Vayne. Take some normal ADC Runes (+8.55 AD, +9 armor, +12.06 magic resistance, +13.5 AS) and masteries (+36 Health, 3% additional Health AND she receive addition 1.5% damage!). She buyed no resistances or health (stupid, you know?). Vayne has at Lvl 18 (1909 + 36) * 1.03 = 2003 HP, 76.8 + 9 = 85.8 armor (=46% reduces) and 30 + 12 MR = 42 MR (=30% reduces) (OH MY GOSH, YOU SEE THIS NUMBER??? The answer for everything!!! Yeah, bad intellectual joke).

Ok, now we attack her.
  1. Your R deals (400 + 725) * 1.05 #masteries = 1181 AP damage. With your boots (15 MPen), your runes (7.8 MPen) and your Abyssal Scepter (20 MPen), you do TRUE DAMAGE. Please Vayne, don't you see that? *facepalm*. In combination with Luden's Echo ((100 + 725 * 0.1) * 1.05 = 181 AP damage she receives 1362 TRUE DAMAGE (it's the REAL MALPHITE, or maybe the "TRUE" MALPHITE? .... I shouldn't do more jokes...)
  2. Next thing: You make an Auto-Hit. With your runes you have 6% Armor Pen. She has a reduction of (85.8 * 0.94) / (100 + 85.8 * 0.94) = 44.6%. One strike makes (122.72 + (75 + 72.5 + 26.8) + 122.72 * 1.25) * 1.05 = 784.77 physical damage AND the mastery "Arcane Blade" deals 725 * 0.05 = 36 Magic Damage (TRUE DAMAGE). All in all she gets 784.77 * 0.56 + 36 = 475 DAMAGE (with ONE AUTO-Hit).
  3. one Q deals (270 + 725 * 0.6) * 1.05 = 740 true damage and one E deals (220 + 268 * 0.3 + 725 * 0.2) * 1.05 = 467 true damage. Pour Vayne, she gets in summary

    1362 + 475 + 740 + 467 = 3044 DAMAGE

    (btw, she has less HP. ;D). And this Damage you deal in the hyperlate game, so you can One-shoot an ADC even in the mid game!

Team Work

What is to say about Malphite? He has the best Synergy with Yasuo because you can combinate your ult with his ult. You have a hard burst, so it's easy to win a 1v1 fight and in teamfight you should start with your R, press E and Q and go out (for example with flash). The CC and damage will help your team really good. But if you haven't another damage dealer, don't go in!

Pros / Cons

  • strong burst
  • tankier than other APC's
  • hard counter against an AD mid or an assassine
  • strong in teamfights and 1v1
  • mid and late game
  • great snowball champ (a fed Malphite can dive an ADC easily)
  • nice CC, if the jungler is ganking
  • really bad early game (you need Luden's Echo to burst)
  • sometimes Mana problems (take blue)
  • your range is really low
  • you have to engage (you aren't a tank and only have about 2300 HP, so calculate!)
  • your scaling is on armor, against an AP Mid, you may have problems (in early)

In summary Malphite is a strong champion (in any case THE REAL MALPHITE). His biggest weakness is his early game. Ask for some ganks and if you have Luden's Echo, you should roam and take some kills. His late game scaling and utility is very good. You can easily play him in Rankeds. There is no problem, but it is better, if the enemy has an AD mid (like Zed, Yasuo or Talon) or a low range champ (like Akali or Diana). Have a nice day ^^ and rate this guide.
