Introduction

(Credit to Kyuhai, http://kyuhai.deviantart.com/)

Greetings Summoner,

My name is Fimbulvethr and I would like to give you a small introduction to one of my favourite champions: Sejuani. Sejuani was the champion that really got me into jungling and to this day there is no champion, that I have as much fun jungling with.
Sejuani is a really strong tank, that offers amazing utility and CC to the team. If you want to make a lot of kills and carry the game alone, then Sejuani is probably the wrong champion though. Her weak early and 1v1 require a cautious playstyle that might take you a while to get used to.
If you play her well though you will have one of the strongest (although underrated) tanks in this game and an ult, which can win games by itself.
So I hope you find this guide useful. If you have any questions feel free to ask them in the comments.

Spells

Passive

Q

W

E

R

Do not underestimate your Passive. It's pretty straightforward, you get +Armor and reduced slows on you whenever you damage an enemy.

It is important not to waste your Q, as the cooldown is fairly long (even at lvl 5) and it is your only tool to escape. (e.g. if you're stealing enemy blue don't use your Q, as you might have to get out fast).

This is your main source of damage. It is important to note, that the damage scales with your health and that you can use it to apply frost to many enemies at once.

This is some powerful CC. Make sure as many enemies as possible have frost applied onto them before you use it.

This is even more powerful CC. Use it to secure kills on ganks, but try to keep it off CD for teamfights later and then try to hit as many and important enemies as possible.

Runes

While some say that you should use MPen here I would recommend using Attack Speed. MPen will only increase your damage mid to lategame and you do not need that as a tank. Attack speed will however help greatly with your first clears and allow you to apply Frost faster.

Gives you some needed tankiness against AD on the first few levels.

Gives you some needed tankiness against AP on the first few levels.

These make your clear faster (especially your first), and help you do some more damage early on.

Notes:

I would advise you not to get Greater Seal of Health. These might seem like a good idea, since you scale on Health, but you may find yourself picking up MR or Warmogs/Liandrys as a first item and would be left with low Armor in that case.

I would also advise against taking Greater Seal of Scaling Armor or Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist. While these give you more MR or Armor after lvl 9 you will also have some Items at that point, thus some more Armor and MR wont make much of a difference. In exchange for that you would be giving up Armor and MR on the first few levels, where you are weak and need every bit of defence you can get.

Jungling, General Thoughts

General Thoughts

Sejuani is a late-game teamfight oriented tank with a weak early game. In order to be a good tank for our team you will need a lot of farm so you can buy the items that make us tanky. What you want to do is play to the strenghts of your champ and not to its weaknesses.

On the first few levels (aka laning phase) you want to make sure that you farm up well and that you avoid getting counterjungled too hard. A gank here and there is good but do not force it. Do it if you're close anyway and the lane makes a gank easy. There really is no need for any early high risk plays (like towerdiving) when you're on Sejuani. You don't need kills to be useful late game, you need farm. Do not sacrifice a large amount of farm or time to make ganks that might not even work out. Soak up gold and exp on lanes when you can (e.g. your laner is base and the wave is pushed to your tower). Your ganks are especially good once you have your ult ready and this is when you should look to make plays.

Mid- to Lategame you want to make sure that you still keep farming and keep important objectives warded (Baron, Drake). You must always have an eye on the map to see if a teamfight might start soon. At this phase of the game you are your teams tank and they absolutely need you in teamfights. Splitpushing is usually not worth it on Sejuani, as your damage to towers is somewhat low, even though your waveclear is decent.

Jungling, Route

Routes

There are two possible routes that you can do in the beginning. YOur routes afterwards will have to vary.

There is one route where you do a normal full clear inclduing all the small camps and the buffs. If you want to do this make sure to buy 3x Health Potions at the start, since you will need them.

An alternative route is to do your first clear with just the small camps, skipping blue and and red buff. After that you go back, buy the Machete and do a full clear including the buffs and all small camps, which will respawn as you make the clear. I recommend doing this clear, aince it has several advantages: You maximize your XP gains, as you make best use of the small camp respawn timers and do the buffs with both Jungler Items. It also allows you to start with Refillable Potion instead of 3x Health Potion. It also helps you against Lvl 2 invades since you can't get cought at your buffs and in the worst case you loose a buff, but not your life.

Jungling, Ganks

Ganks

Much of this comes down to experience, this is hardly something that can be thought well inside a guide.

As mentioned before do not put yourself at to much risk or sacrifice too much farm for ganks when you're playing Sejuani.

What makes ganks cheap:
    - The enemy laner is overextended on his lane
    - You have seen the enemy jungler on the map and he is too far away to countergank
    - The enemy laner is a low mobility champion without any good escape

What makes ganks risky:
    - The enemy laner is close to his tower, you might get tempted to dive or just waste your time.
    - You have not seen the enemy jungler lately and have no vision around the lane, he might countergank
    - The enemy laner has high health and your laner has low health, your laner might die in the gank and you might not be able to finish, since your damage is low.

Jungling, Other Stuff

Stealing

Sejuani is really good at stealing Baron or Drake. Wait till the objective's life is about Your smite+150 (R's damage) and then go in using R->Q->Smite. In many cases the enemy jungler will get stunned by your R and you can smite the objective. Cslculate carefully if you think it is worth it though. You might not escape after the steal and your team might be missing its tank and lots of CC for a while. An example would be stealing the second drake at 40 mins into a game, since the enemy team profits more from the kill than it would've profited from the second drake.

Scuttle Crab

Sejuani kills the Scuttle Crab pretty slowly later into the game. Make sure it is worth the time if you do it.

Jungle Buffs

This is about the buffs you get from smiting the camps in the Jungle.

Good

Raptor: Smite them. Not only can you deny enemy vision, but you also know when you get spotted going in for a gank or when you have deepwards in your own jungle.

Gromp: This buff can get you some extra damage, especially since you usually have high HP on Sejuani.

Situational

Wolves: It is great to smite this when you're in need of indeniable vision in your jungle. This might be the case when the towers on this side of the map have fallen, or you are finding yourself getting counterjungled frequently.

Red Buff: Smite this only if you really need the Health boost.

Bad

Blue Buff: You usually do not need the extra mana.

Krugs: Besides your first clear it is not worth it to smite these. You won't proc it a lot and the damage to towers is not that great.

Team Fights

Team Fights

Now this where the fun begins! This is where you will really shine and will start to influence the outcome of games heavily.
There is two jobs you can have in teamfights. Either you will have to peel your carries or you will have to engage their carries. Which one of these tasks is more important depends on yours and the enemy's team composition.

Case 1: Protect

Say the enemy team has strong Assassins and your Carries have low mobility (e.g. Jinx) and your Support is not good at peeling (e.g. Sona), then you will have to make sure the enemy Assassins do not reach your Carry. Use your Q and E's slow for this and if you have to even use your R.

Case 2: Attack

If on the other hand your carries are fairly mobile (e.g. Kalista) and your support is good at peeling (e.g. Janna) and/or your team has strong Assassins then it is more important that you allow these Assassins to do their work. Try to CC the enemy backline and try to use your R on them when they are clumped.

I hope this guide has been informative for you and wish you all the best luck playing with Sejuani.
