Introduction

This build is not for dominion!

Hello and welcome my Olaf guide! In this guide I give Olaf tons of health to make his passive more effective and give him great resistences along with some decent damage output. This build is still taking suggestions so if it a little mistake do not downvote it, suggest the change and I will probably change it.

Lore

On an uncharted continent beyond Valoran's grasping clutches, the conqueror named Olaf was born to a long tradition of soldiers unlike most others. Berserkers, as they tout themselves, are warriors who channel fury deep from their cores, unleashing pure and savage wrath upon their enemies. This fearsome evolution is a product of their unforgiving home, Lokfar - a barren tundra where all creatures must vie bitterly for every resource. Olaf belonged to a seafaring clan known for ruthlessly pillaging any and all villages within reach of their dragon-crested longboats. The last time he saw his icy home, Olaf was embarking on an expedition to pioneer and plunder a distant land known only to legend. However, while underway, a terrible storm sprung up and Olaf and his crew were thrown to the mercy of a roiling and pitiless sea.

His ship destroyed, his crew nowhere to be found, Olaf miraculously washed up untold miles from ''friendly'' waters on the foreign shores of Valoran, south of Demacia. This unfamiliar place stunned and frightened the Berserker, for Lokfar is not privy to such potent magicians. Approaching them, Olaf hoped that they could use their mysterious powers to send him back to his people. A bargain was struck. Olaf would use his awesome prowess as a warrior to serve the unusual wars of Valoran in the League of Legends, and in exchange the sorcerers would find him a way to return. Despite his participation in the League, Olaf knows better than to trust the ''finger wagglers'' that run the Institute of War. He deliberately keeps details of his life and home from them. After all, with enough information, they would most certainly find the Lokfarians and dominate them as they have dominated all of Valoran, keeping both quietly -- and unwittingly -- in their thrall.

Beware the war cry of the Berserker. What surges toward you is unyielding, free from the shackles of reason.

Abilities

- Olaf throws an axe into the ground at a target location, dealing damage to units it passes through and slowing their movement speed. If Olaf picks up the axe, the ability's cooldown is reduced by 6 seconds. Olaf throws an axe to a target location, dealing 50/90/130/170/210 (+) physical damage to units it passes through and slowing them by 24/28/32/36/40% for 2.5 seconds. If Olaf picks up the axe, the ability's cooldown is reduced by 6 seconds. Pretty sweet move, use it sparingly even though it has a low mana cost.
Cost55/60/65/70/75 ManaRange1000
- Olaf's attack damage is increased, based on his health, and he gains massive lifesteal and spell vamp. For 6 seconds, Olaf's attack damage is increased by 7/14/21/28/35 (+ [1% of maximum Health]) and he gains 9/12/15/18/21% lifesteal and spell vamp.
Cost40/45/50/55/60 ManaRange700
- Olaf attacks with such force that it deals true damage to his target and himself. Olaf deals 100/160/220/280/340 true damage to his target and inflicts 40/64/88/112/136 true damage to himself.
Cost50/50/50/50/50 ManaRange325
- Olaf is immune to disables, has increased armor penetration and reduces incoming damage. Active: For 5/6.5/8 seconds, Olaf is immune to disables and reduces incoming damage by 20/30/40. RUN RUN RUN! Passive: Olaf has 10/20/30 increased armor penetration.
Cost100/75/50 ManaRange400
(passive) - For each 1% of health missing, Olaf's attack speed is increased by 1%.

Runes

The runes I use of Olaf give him lots of health, some armor penetration, and some cooldown reduction. All these are very important for olaf for the following reasons.

Health: +
Olaf's passive gives him more attack speed when he gets in lower health, if you give Olaf more health his passive is more effective because when you use Tough It Out you gain passive life steal. The life steal makes your heath but if you have a higher pool of health you will still keep the percentage lower but have more hit points in the end. If you play Olaf with a small amount of health his passive will regen most of it then he will attack slow, then he will get low health again when his Tough It Out goes on cooldown. A tanky Olaf can normally get more cooldown reduction and maitain health easier while being less reliant on it, this greatly increases Tough It Out effectiveness, This build would not work as well without it. -If you do not agree with this please suggest a replacment-

Armor Penetration: Greater Mark of Desolation
Olaf needs this, in this guide he has no early armor penetration and no offensive masteries. This leaves him in need of some serious Armor Penetration runes. The main role of the armor penetration is to increase the effectiveness of Tough It Out, making it deal more damage and giving Olaf back more health.

Cooldown Reduction:
This is great because Olaf relies on each on of his abilities and each one serves a different purpose. Since all of his abilities serve a variety of purposes he needs the cooldown reduction to make him overall stronger.

Masteries

The masteries I choose for Olaf increase Olaf's durbility and regeneration. I find this most important because most of Olaf's damage output comes from his abilities. He needs the health to help passive which also helps Tough It Out and Reckless Swing. The mana and health regeration is essential for Reckless Swing and using all of Olaf's abilities, he does not need that much mana regeneration due to the fact that his abilities have a low mana cost.

Items

Core build:

Item reasoning

Mecury's Treads- just for when you don't have your ultimate, can be replaced by a Ninja Tabi if the enemy team has alot of AD.
Aegis of the Legion- Great resistences and health, aura that helps squishies and also gives a extra bit of AD.
Randuin's Omen- Slow on being hit is awesome when being goes along with frozen mallet perfectly.
Frozen Mallet- Great health, extra AD and a awsome passive which slows the target. Arguably the best item for Olaf.
Atma's Impaler- Gives great armor and critical chance, along with a passive which gives you a whole bunch of attack damage.
Youmuu's Ghostblade- CDr AMrpen crit strike and a kewl active whats not to love.

Optional Items:

Ninja Tabi- Only buy this when you have all the runes and dodge masteries, only use these these against heavy DPS champions. Replace Ninja Tabi.
Hexdrinker- Karthus problems? Replace Youmuu's Ghost blade.
Guardian Angel- Good for times where you just need more resist and when you need the passive. replace Aegis of the Legion.
Banshee's Veil- Great item for when you are against alot of CC, not to mention great health mana and magic resist stats. Replace Randuin's Omen.
Force of Nature- Great for when you are moving around slow, need more health regen or just need more magic resist. Just a good item. Replace Randuin's Omen .
Spirit Visage- Good CDr and MR. Replace Randuin's Omen
Black Cleaver- If you have a team of full AD and your against a team of tanks; change the build completely to doran's sheildmercury's tread B.F. Sword

These are only the more common situations you can use your own items.

If you do please leave suggestions.

Skill Sequence

Maxing out Reckless Swing gives Olaf a significant amount of damage output, since this guide does not use that many damage items early Tough It Out is not as usefull as Reckless Swing at a lower level. Undertow does not need to be ranked up as much because Olaf only needs it to slow them for a little while, not deal tons of damage.

Summoner Spells

The Summoner Spells I use for Olaf are Ghost and Flash which give him more escape mechinisms. Although Ragnarok is a great escape move it has a long cooldown. And I consider it to be a "IM OUT OF HERE!" type of ability. These two summoner spells are extreemly useful early game and are for escaping, not when the enemy have you in their grasps.

Other Usefull Summoner Spells:

Exhaust: Great for a extra slow and a blind, I use to always use this one but I find that Ghost and Flash are more useful.
Ignite: Awsome for getting first blood, reducing healing and getting that last bit of damage from a range. This is good for Olaf because he has no garunteed hit ranged move.
Teleport: Getting around the map is very important, this spell can win games since Olaf is a very good at backdooring.

Gameplay

As Olaf you always need to be fearless, don't run from something you can't escape (unless you have you ult). You often are far better off fighting things out or just not getting into those nasty situations in the first place. Olaf is one of the best 1v1 champions, that is because of his passive which makes you need to be a little reckless sometimes. But remember sometimes you can't be too reckless, like around a caster.

Using abilities:

Undertow: Throw this thing only as far as it needs to go, don't throw it full length 100% of the time because then you will have to go farther to get it. if you spam it to much you will have huge mana problems.

Vicious Stirkes: Use this ability against squishies when you do not have full health. This will give you much more health and will rip them up. If you have to use it against a tank.

Reckless Swing: A great move, it goes right trough resistences so it is a great way to start and finish a battle. You need to be careful, don't use this if your running away from somebody.

Ragnarok: This is beast! You become immune to disables, go faster and gain resistences. This is the perfect gettaway out of almost anything.
