9/21/0 - Tanky (vs AP and tanky bruisers):
21/9/0 - Offensive (vs other offensive top champions):
- Those 21 points in defense make you a bruiser. This kind of build give you defense and CDR. Defense give you posibility to focus on attacking not woring much about your HP status. Also later in late game it will help you last in front line taking hits for your teammates. CDR (
Enlightenment )lets you trade more blows with your oponent, and alter to more effectively reach enemy carry with oyur E and Ultimate.
- Those 9 point is just enough to last hit easily (
Butcher ) and for having enough damage to kill your top enemy (
Weapon Expertise ).
21/9/0 - Offensive (vs other offensive top champions):
- You take 21 point in damage when you know
Rengar enough that you know you can kill your top opennent.
- Those 9 points in defense tree gives you minimum sustainablity.
- Depending on type of your oponent (AD or AP) you take 3 points in proper basic defense masteries (
Hardiness vs AD or
Resistance vs AP)
Standard:
Cooldown Reduction:
If your top lane opponent is not AP:
- 9x
(8,55 AD) - most your skills do AD damage, your Q scales incredibly well with AD. Best marks for the spot.
- 9x
(24,3 MR) - you don't need flat MR for fast magic resist as most AP champions don't make lot of damage at start - they scale to the late game - as this runes.
- 9x
(12,6 Armor) - even if you play vs AP champion he makes AD damgae from autoAttacks + minions will also attack you. Must have.
- 3x
(6,75 AD) - you need it to make your Q hurt. It also increases damage form skill you will use the most which is your E.
Cooldown Reduction:
If your top lane opponent is not AP:
- 9x
(8,55 AD) - most your skills do AD damage, your Q scales incredibly well with AD. Best marks for the spot.
- 9x
(8,1 CDR) - with CDR from your
Enlightenment mastery you get 16,2 CDR. You generate Ferocity faster with those runes. It will hurt your enemy, it will...
- 9x
(12,6 Armor) - it makes you tanky, let you take samoe damage while you make more of it.
- 3x
(6,75 AD) - you need it to make your Q hurt. It also increases damage form skill you will use the most which is your E.
STANDARD:
Flash - obvious. When this bad
Shaco surpised you - flash back. When you enter a teamfight and you realize that they focused you too hard - flash out. Always take this skill as
Rengar doesn't have any escape tool (besides your Ultimate - but ask yourself a question - do Predators use stealth to escape? hehe...).
Ignite - for additional dmg and especially for healing bastards (hi
Vladimir &
Dr. Mundo!).
Exhaust - perfect skill to switch off in lategame teamfight some brutal power champions like
Tristana,
Diana...
Teleport (instead of ignite) - you can make easy kills sometimes from it by just using it to
Teleport in teamfight on bot lane. Also for fight over dragon. Take this especially if you play with friends who can call you in correct time.
Heal - only good for matches where enemy team has a lot of AoE damage champs (with AoE ultimates, skills, etc.). I take it for example in matches against Singed - I know my team will always be running too much in his poison and I can save them with
Heal. Even after nerf I never regreted when I took this skill.

While in bush or stealth,

General idea is that while being in bush or being stealth (from your ultimate) whenever you autoAttack on target

Skill doesn't has cooldown so if you fallow enemy through bush you jump on him all the time and there is no chance for him to escape. It really looks great + enemy screaming "WTF - get out of me! Take him out, take him out of me!!!" - priceless :D
Problem is that at the moment range of this jump is too low to use it as gank initiator in jungle-style play. You can't reach enemy from bush in mid lane. On bot and top if enemy knows you are in bush they will stay out of reach staying closer to river.
- Playing top try this - jump on enemy, go back to bush, jump on enemy, go back to bush, jump...I think you get it :) Sometimes they don't know what to do, they back off or chase you, but if enemy doesn't have some kind of stun you can make a lot of damage from this.
- Remember that being invisible form your ultimate you can also jump on enemy. So if your opponent is just running away with low HP use ultimate and by this you can make a jump (E+Q to finish).
- After leaving bush you still have like 0,5 seconds bonus time to make a jump.

Rengar's next basic attack deals bonus damage and grants him increased Attack Speed for a short duration.
Cooldown: 6 seconds
Physical Damage: 30 / 55 / 80 / 105 / 130 (+1.0 per attack damage)
Attack Speed Bonus: 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50 %
Ferocity Bonus: Rengar deals enhanced damage and his Attack Speed bonus increases.
Physical Damage: 30 / 55 / 80 / 105 / 130 (+2.5 per attack damage)
Attack Speed Bonus: 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 %
First of all see this move on YT here (credits to RevanantTube).
Idea is to go full AD runes +

This is Q with Ferocity bonus: ![]() |
===========================================================

Rengar lets out a battle roar, damaging enemies and gaining bonus Armor and Magic Resist for a short duration.
Ferocity Bonus: Rengar heals himself for 15% of his maximum health.
Cooldown: 15 / 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 seconds
Magic Damage: 75 / 120 / 165 / 210 / 255 (+1.0 per ability power)
Bonus Armor & Magic Resist: 20 / 30 / 40 / 50 / 60
Damage from this skill is very low + range of it is just not funny low. So as for damage this skill is useless.
As for armor and magic armor bonus - it would be great if it would last longer. Or at least they could make some perma-passive bonus from it (like

Max as last one.
Hmmm... It looks nice..?

Rengar throws a bola at his target, slowing them for a short duration.
Ferocity Bonus: Rengar roots the target for 1 second before slowing it.
Cooldown: 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8 seconds
Physical Damage: 60 / 105 / 150 / 195 / 240 (+0.7 per bonus attack damage)
Slow: 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 %
When you see Rengar for the first time you think "Wow - his Q is amazing". Then you start to better know this champ and you see how beautiful his E skill... could be hehe...
PROS:
- Very low CD
- Pretty good damage
- Mega slow
- Pisses off enemy (hehe...)
CONS:
- Short cast range!!!
If this skill could have just a little bigger range I wouldn't say bad thing about Rengar...

Rengar activates his predatory instincts, stealthing and revealing all enemy champions in a large radius around him. He gains Movement Speed and rapidly generates Ferocity while stealthed.
You disappear in Predator style (even sounds of this skill are similar to Predators) to do whatever you want:
- You can go straight to low enemy champion and finish him with ease.
- You can escape to nearest bush and TP home
- You can jump on enemy (thx to your passive)
- You naturally generate Ferocity being in Ultimate state
- While doing jump, back to bush, jump, back to bush strategy your opponent will learn to stay away from bush. If you make your enemy low HP and he stays in distance from bush were you can't reach him with your passive-jump then just hit your ultimate, go next to your opponent, wait till 4 Ferocity is generated and hit Q,Q,E,W,Q. Should be enough.

Before we discuss item builds I want to talk about
Rengar special item:

Feel free to switch boots depending on enemy team:
====================================================================
Standard build:
This build allows you to:
Build order:
====================================================================
Offensive: (Q&E scaling build)
Use this build in Normal/Solo games where you want to have fun in kill lane.
Build order:

Cooldown redustion build:

Tanky farm lane: (HP scaling build)
In my opinion so far "Rengar top" will be typical bruiser. His problem is that he can't escape like
Shen, he doesn't have any shield like
Riven, no stun like
Irelia and he doesn't have escape ability (besides Ultimate which if you use to escape is a big waste). So to survive he has to be build tanky (against most, not every, top opponent). Think about his role in late game teamfights - he can't go all for damage - he is not
Talon, he doesn't do AoE damage, he doesn't initiate fights good. It looks so far like he will slow enemy carry, hit ultimate and go to finish that carry. You need a lot of defensive items to survive that.
Rengar scales good with HP items because his W heals him for 15% of his max HP. So more HP -> more heal -> better sustain -> less come backs home to heal -> more CS -> better chance to win.
Build order:
====================================================================
Why not:
Ionian Boots of Lucidity - in most cases those are boots of my choice - bigger CDR, lower CD, you hit your Q and E more often (so you give more damage) + you stack your Ferocity faster - isn't that what
Rengar is about? Think about it - you get more heal, more damage, more kills from it. Take them also if you feel you have advantage against your lane opponent. Early game you can take
, and sell late game to buy
.
Ninja Tabi - vs AD heavy champs like
Riven,
Renekton, etc.
Mercury's Treads - boots you will take in most matches. Please don't make me explain to you why they are the best.
====================================================================
Standard build:

This build allows you to:
- Stay alive -
,
and
should be enough to make you survive most teamfights. And even if you don't - there is always second life form
.
- Staying alive and being able to deal damage doesn't mean you will damage and hurt anyone - first you have to be able to reach someone and stay on him till 0 of his HP. Thanks to
Frozen Mallet with every hit you make it's possible to stick close to your target. Thanks to
Force of Nature and
Randuin's Omen you will by tanky enought to survive that chase.

Build order:
====================================================================
Why not:
Infinity Edge - tons of damage + insane crit - why you don't like it? You don't need crit on
Rengar - you are not auto attack champion. Your Q & E scales with damage only. And for damage only items like
Bloodthirster (best DPS item) and
Maw of Malmortius (against AP champs) are better and cheaper.
Phantom Dancer - you are not autoAttack champion. Anyone who thinks Rengar should stack AtackSpeed and Crit should delete LOL from his computer.
Items:
Boots, 3x
Health Potion
Early+mid game
Rengar is pretty powerful. You need to make the best out of this time because late game he falls pretty badly.
First of all harass your enemy at all the time:

Early+mid game

First of all harass your enemy at all the time:
- At start of lane phase
Rengar's Q hits surprisingly hard. Make fast 4 stacks of Ferocity and use Q>Q combo on enemy champion. Now he knows it HURTS badly! After lvl 2 when you have your
Bola Strike try to stack 3 points of Ferocity, hit E to slow your opponent (now you are 4 stacks and you can get close to enemy) and punish him with Q>Q combo. On first 5 levels Q>Q combo takes 40-80% of HP.
- Hit your lane opponent with
Bola Strike whenever it's on cooldown. It makes some damage, paralyze his movement, makes him wonder every time if you are gonna attack again with Q>Q combo. If
Bola Strike is on off cooldown, but you can't reach you opponent use it on minions - at least you generate point of
Ferocity to prepare new attack or heal yourself with W.
At this moment
Rengar looks UnderPowered for a new champion. Maybe (for sure) we didn't play him too much yet, maybe we don't understand him, maybe he needs special item build... But after OP
Zyra and
Diana personally I expected something more from champion that has his own snowball item and is called hunter/Predator.
But at least one thing was made very good with
Rengar - playing him gives a lot of fun. And even if he can't (easily) make 20 kills a game I don't regret buying him.
Anyways - thanks for reading my guide - hope You liked it. If yes/no - leave a comment why yes/no (if you have time).
Best Regards,
SteveJoobs
