Not Updated For Current Season
This guide has not yet been updated for the current season. Please keep this in mind while reading. You can see the most recently updated guides on the browse guides page
Don't let him engage on you, and you're fine. Just don't let him get behind you, which shouldn't be a problem since you're so fast. You will also out-sustain him early game.
Blitzcrank
You're squishy. If he grabs you, you're probably dead. Stay behind minions and don't try to get free autos off. Just protect the ADC from poke. You have more utility than he does late game.
Braum
His Q is a rather slow moving projectile. Shield it from you or your ADC, and you'll be fine. Don't let him get the stun off on you. Again, it's hard to get it off, because you're really fast.
Dr. Mundo
Mundo support isn't really a thing, but he does some serious damage with his cleavers. He will also outsustain everyone else. He's just a pain in the butt to deal with, but he's not that big of a deal in lane.
Fiddlesticks
I've seen Fiddle support a few times, and you definitely have an advantage on him. Q him to interrupt his W or his ult's channel, and shield you or your ADC against the flying death birds. Just don't play too aggressively or he will take advantage and poke you down.
Gnar
Gnar support is still out there, and he's annoying. He'll dodge your tornados with his jump, and he has long range poke with his boomerang. Also, Giant Hulking Mega Gnar is a bit of a pain. Dodge the rocks and keep him off of the ADC.
Heimerdinger
Heimer is annoying. That's all to be said about him. Shield the ADC and yourself from his rockets and take out the towers as fast as you can without taking too much damage.
Janna
Mirror lanes are always annoying. You'll both probably be playing passively, so just capitalize off of her mistakes.
Jax
Yes, I've seen Jax support. You can interrupt his jump with a well timed Q, and keep him off of your ADC quite well. If he jumps on you under turret, CC lock him so your ADC can get lots of free poke off.
Karma
Shield her poke. When she tries to go in on you with her W, tornado her so the chain breaks. Her shield makes it hard for your ADC to get away from her, but you will have no problem. Simply Q the Karma into the next county.
Kayle
Her E is a nuke, she has a heal, and she does AOE ranged damage. Plus, her ult is really annoying, even though she is still affected by CC.
LeBlanc
You CAN interrupt her W with your Q. Like Karma, keep the E's off you and your ADC.
Lee Sin
It's funny when he tries to connect his Q, because he can't when you Q him in midair. If he can't get close to you with his Q, he's useless.
Leona
You beat Leona, fair and square. Just don't let her engage with her E, and you're fine. She has no sustain, so you'll be able to stay in lane a lot longer than she can.
Lissandra
Lissandra isn't played a lot as a support, but when she does, it's annoying. Her abilities to loads of damage, and they're multitarget, so you need to choose whether to shield yourself or your ADC. You can stop her from using her E if you knock her up when she wants to recast, but you probably won't get the chance.
Lulu
Lulu is fine to lane against, but the polymorph is irritating. The lane could really go either way- it depends on the ADCs.
Lux
When you're snared, you can't move. Janna is all about moving. Plus, her ult does tons of damage. Avoid the Q's and E's and protect your ADC.
Malphite
His shield just keeps coming back. Don't even try to poke him. Protect the ADC and don't get in range of his Q. You CAN block his ult with yours or a Q.
Morgana
If she's ulting, ult her away from your team, effectively negating her ult and disengaging the teamfight. Dodge her Q's, which shouldn't be to difficult with your movement speed. The only annoying thing is her Black Shield, but it has a very long cooldown.
Nami
Nami is a pain to lane against. Her bubble is very, very powerful throughout the entire game. Dodge it! Also, the her W can easily turn the tables of a lane. One second you're up in health, they're down. One W can change that. Her ult is unblockable and will cause problems.
Nautilus
Nautilus is a joke. He's one of the slowest champions in LoL, and you're one of the fastest. Dodge his extremely slow moving skillshots. The only slightly annoying thing about him is his ult.
Nunu & Willump
Your shield approximately shields the same amount as his iceball. You can interrupt his ult at will with a Q or your ult.
Orianna
This lady is not nice. She outranges you very hard, and does a lot of damage to boot. Avoid the ball at all costs.
Sejuani
Sejuani support is one of those supports that's never played. Dodge her ult bola, or else you're screwed. You can stop her charge, though.
Shaco
Shaco support is bad news. He can dodge your Q, he has total bush control (the boxes do a crapload of damage), and his E also does a lot of damage. Not to mention, if he's playing support he won't have buffs for you to tell which one is real.
Sona
Sona is bad to lane against, but it is possible. Shield the Q's and powerchords and attempt to not get hit by her ult. If all else fails, hug the tower. Most Sona's are too stupid to know how to play correctly, however, so it shouldn't be hell.
Soraka
Soraka's rework killed her in a Janna matchup. She does have an AOE silence, but you can simply walk out to avoid the snare. Her starcall is also easy to dodge as well. Just have your ADC farm as the Soraka can't do anything to stop your ADC from doing so.
Taric
A targeted, ranged stun is nothing to scoff at, and the heal is annoying, but he shouldn't be able to get close to you.
Teemo
He's not as bad as you would expect him to be. Shield when you hit a shroom, and it won't chunk out your health like it's supposed to. You can catch this little critter quite easily, as your Q removes his invisibility.
Thresh
Yes, he's annoying, but he really can't do anyting except pull and Flay. The lantern will get his ADC out of sticky situations, so keep the ADC off the lantern at all costs if necessary. Shield his autos- his Flay passive make them do lots of damage. Also, keep him off the souls. It shouldn't be that hard, since your kit is designed for disengage.
Vel'Koz
Dodge.
Volibear
When he's running at you on all fours, W or Q him to prevent him from getting to you. His fear and passive are very strong, so keep out of his way.
Xerath
I don't see this as much anymore. Dodge his stun and he really can't do anything to you. Protect the ADC, rush Mikael's.
Zilean
Shield his bombs, and he's completely useless aside from his ult. He will be annoying in lane with his double bomb combo (double bombo) but you should be able to deal with him easily.
Zyra
She's a mean, red, snaring machine. Dodge the snares, but the plants will still do lots of damage to you and your ADC. Her ult is very strong and usually flashes are wasted getting away from it. Her passive is also annoying.
Thank you for viewing my Janna guide! My summoner name is Benjy321 (NA) and I love Janna! Her versatility makes her great in almost any situation. I'm not saying I'm the best in the world, but I definitely do know many things about how to play Janna. Please, read the "Notes" little tabs for the sections above.
Pros / Cons
Pros / Cons
+ Really good in teamfights + Great at disengage + One of the best catch champions + Really, REALLY fast + A good ult can win the game + She'll leave you breathless for only $2.95 a minute - Weak early game - Very, very squishy - A bad ult can lose the game
Early Game
Early Game
Early Game Janna is not a pretty sight. She runs out of mana like *that*, starts off with about 400 health, and really can't do anything before level 6. Just play extremely passively and try to get some autos off. Early autos are very important: 8 gold per auto is nothing to laugh about.
Late Game
Late Game
Late game Janna happens after you finish your core: Mikael's, Frost Queen's, Sightstone, and Mobis. Late game Janna = making clutch plays to save your friends, catching out the ADC in the jungle, soloing the idiot Nasus who thinks he can dive you, and many other wonderful things. I have singlehandedly delayed a game 30 minutes longer than it should have been, and we won in the end. Janna's best environment lies in turret range, in full out teamfights, or stealing Baron (with your friendly Jungler)
Combos (or lack thereof)
Combos (or lack thereof)
Early Game: Q to prevent CS
Q+W+AA for minor poke
E+Q+W+AA+AA for more damage
E to prevent ADC from damage
Late Laning Phase: Flash+R (extremely difficult, will be covered in "Monsoon" section)
Teamfights: R (don't be stupid about it, if you're winning, don't ult)
Q+W+Exhaust (on fed people in teamfights)
Catching: Frost Queen's+Q+W will leave them slowed to the point where anyone
could catch them. Just rinse and repeat
Monsoon
Monsoon
This is what makes Janna the champion who she is. You need to be perfectly aware of your surroundings to determine whether "To ult, or not to ult. That is the question." You need to know what the effects of your ult will be. If you're losing a teamfight, ask yourself should I ult? What will the effects be? If your ult will save your teammates and effectively disengage the teamfight, do it. But- does the teamfight need disengaging? In lane, you can position yourself with a flash to be able to ult the enemy into your turret. Should you? Is your ADC low? Will he die? All of these things you must consider before pressing the R button. You aren't a Karthus, you don't press R to win. You think about pressing R, wait 'till the right moment, and win.
