The first build is for Advanced players who have played katarina before and know how to play LoL / sense ganks.
The second build is for new players just starting out, not so much familiar with the game and wanna give katarina a try. Good luck to all of you, and remember, this is the hardest style to play as katarina. Go AP if you want to just faceroll your keyboard.

I play this style Katarina because it has an appeal for me.

1) It's not AP, and its harder to play right.
2) It's not AP
3) I can now survive those tedious fights 1 on 1 where CDs kill you.
4) Makes your terrorize even in group fights.
5) Over all, I think it's just more fun.
6) If fed at start, incredibly destructible after finishing
7) She is VERY offensive.

Masteries

This is a very offensive / kamikaze build. At least thats how I tend to play it. And for that reason, I choose to go all the way down the build for Offense and have just enough to get dodge in Defensive tree.

Runes

9x Greater Mark of Desolation Since this is an AD spell, getting that armor pen is crucial!
9x Make that really shine!
9x More attacks = good!
3x Greater Quintessence of Desolation Armor Pen Armor Pen Armor Pen Armor Pen

Two ways to go about buying the right Quintessence.
If you are new to the game and think you die a lot in team fights, go with Greater Quintessence of Vitality BUT if you are confident in your escape skills go with Greater Quintessence of Desolation

Why not use active with you say? We'll here is why I like having . In big battles where you especially feel like you are being targeted ( and you will be ) allows me to use the active with and I've saved my self numerous times at low hp doing the active with on a Jungle monsters gaining more health to live through a DOT. And for some reason, Whenever you ignite someone even an full HP, they still tend to back up and run away few feet.

Can be used same way as but even better for defensive purposes. It's also great to go with this if you see that you have no Tanks or no good CC champions to slow down opponents.
Only reason I don't go with this is because I rush for the to get that 50% slow to use my abilities or let my allies get to them.

TROLL with your like there is no tomorrow. When you are last hitting the minions, harass the enemy champion with it. Keep on reserve.Do not use it as a killing blow on a minion unless you know for SURE you are safe. Always save it as a way of escaping or for that extra burst if they dare to come closer to you. With , make sure to use it when the enemy is slowed first and in those chaotic team fights, always come in last. It may seems like you are just there to ks(well, you are an assassin =] ) but this will save you from being single targeted when most of the CC abilities are on CD.

In short , this is how my battle goes in a 1v1 or 1v2

Good job! you are in the right place!
I'll start with explaining why is the rushed weapon in this build. You'll find your opponents underestimating the chances of getting away and by the time they realize, it will be too Late. I use this gun in a priority for getting the full effect of in single and small fights.
I start off with a to close in, shoot my in the dome, while doing the Ultimate (doesn't stop it!!) and finish off with your if they are still somehow alive.

After you start getting your killing sprees, it's time to speed things up. Start by finishing your and moving onto your (* MAKE SURE TO KEEP READING UNDER "When..." Headline.*) for the large damage boost.

Now since you just gained more Critical Chance, it's time to upgrade your speed and some more AD. answers the call! With additional attack speed and AD, you are on your way to total domination.

At this point you can chose 2 different weapons depending on your preference / situation.
If you feel like you have no time to attack minions and are just focusing on the enemy champion go with a 2nd .
If you seem to be pushed back and killing minions in the base, go with


For last item, it is very situational based. But in most games you will most likely face a tank with a large amount of hp, and thats where does its magic.
