MAO IS JG ONLY... Why is Mao going to be played as a support?

After the recent patch Maokai has become an amazing support. He has a new slow on his sapling, decreased mana costs, and a massive buff to his snare. Maokai support should focus on magic pen health armor magic resist and magic pen. Since his snare now does 15% + 4% per 100AP dmg, magic pen and tank is the way to go. Because of this I usually synergize a lot of magic pen with the sunfire cape.

Mao is played support kind of like leona but he gets more cc early. Leona does have more cc in her combo with her ult but mao has very low cool downs and high cc, especially with a well placed sapling.

I SUCK AT LEAGE... how to use skills?!?!?!!?

Usually use the keyboard.

Ok well his q is very weird and you should play a few games just to get used to hit. It goes out in a line and is pretty decent ranged so you can kinda snipe for the slow with it. However the nockback range is actualy around you in a circle a bit smaller than the range of the sunfire cape.

When you use your W try to snare the enemy and reposition yourself so your q will knock the victim back where you want to cc them a bit longer after the snare. When you reposition yourself it is a great time to throw your E because they cant move!

The E is a whole skill in itself. A lot of people are very afraid of the saplings because they would just rather not take the dmg. Sometimes people are waay too careful of the saplings so you can use them to zone out huge circles of space. Usually I use the E after my W a little bit behind where they will run to. This is because if you position it right they will not be able to run without hitting it and because you already have a slow on them with the Q so it would be wasteful to use the E so early.

Of course that does not mean do not throw the E directly on the person you stunned. Your e does not deal much but it does deal dmg and sometimes it is nice just to get the full dmg from it.

This is a percfect example. The maokai uses W to snare the ashe in step 2. In step three he gets between the soraka and the ashe and waits for the snare to run off so he can use q. By doing this it gives him the most cc, a slow on the both enemys and chaining cc on the snared enemy.

WHY DO I KEEP DYING... lol this wont happen.

Your passive is great bottom because of the 4 people. Whenever someone uses a skill you get a stack on your passive. Also your passive is a whole 7% of your health. Usually late game I can heal hundreds of health each time I proc it. Being in the middle of a team fight can let you heal over 1k late game. Use it on minions with targons to give you the best of the best sustain as support.

HAHA UR MASTERIES SUX... f u bro.

I take the 5/22/3 for a coupple reasons. In the offensive path I take the cool down reduction and team dmg. The ability power is nice but really does not add as much as just 1.5% movement speed would.

I only put the 3 in the utility tree because maokais passive makes the potion mastery useless so it is not worth putting more in it.

I take 22 in the defensive tree because I really like to have maxed out Legendary Guardian. That one point really does not help much anywhere else so I get the up to 5 armor and 2.5 MR in team fights from the one point. Legendary Guardian is awesome.

Honorable mentions

Cait can chain trap off of you snare after it is like level 3+

You can harass a lot and depend on your passive to heal you up if you play it right.

E gives sight keep that in mind

Throw your E where they will have to escape to guarantee the slow

Try to dodge dmg when using W. You become invulnerable for a small ammount of time, kind of like a fizz jump.

Try to time your W with the enemy escapes; if they look like they are going to flash over the wall they are approaching, W them right before they flash to follow them up.

Your Q is an interrupt. Please only use it when the enemy team does not need to be interrupted. If you use it for cc and then the kat ults, whelp bad move.
