Introduction
Riven is a reckless and disruptive melee fighter. And as such needs a considerable amount of bulk to do good. The second I read the skills for Riven I thought. Irelia So why the hell I see everyone building Riven full out AD I'll never know. This guide is specifically for the solo lane and you should never pick her unless the solo lane is available.
Riven is one of the best 1v2 champions even early on; so is a very viable choice for the solo.
Just to prove I know what I'm talking about, here are some of my Riven games.
One of the coolest skills in the game. You will feel like Link when you yell 'Hyaaaah' while doing a front flip and smashing your sword on the ground. Try using the first 2 slashes then using the 3rd to land behind them so they are pushed towards you and not away.
Amazing skill, an AoE stun that does very good damage. Max this out first for crazy burst damage in the lane. Use it in between Broken Wings slashes for massive damage!
A very short blink. Very short. The shield isn't very noticeable so the only use for it is to help harass. Valor in, Ki Burst then, Broken Wings out.
The most notable part of this skill is the ability to use Wind Slash once. If the enemy got away with around 1/4 health then Ignite + Wind Slash is a great K.O. The AD and attack range bonuses are also worth activating Blade of the Exile for. Don't worry about losing the ability to cast wind slash as you have a decent amount of time before it runs out so you should always cast it in teamfights or use it in conjunction with Ghost when the jungler comes to gank.
. Awesome chaser
. Best 1v2
. Good CC
. A small blink
. Good AoE for teamfights
. Wicked hair
. No range (apart from Blade of the Exile)
. Easy to miss all abilities
. Slow base movement speed (solved by Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed)
. Low damage very early game
0 point in offence?! Yes, here is the reason why.
Let's take a look at what Riven benefits from...
Offence:
& maybe
Defence:
Utility
As you can see Riven benefits much more from defence and utility than she does from offence.
Runes
greater mark of desolation Obvious choice for any AD champion. I don't think there are any other viable choices.
Good choice for any solo laner. Another good choice is Greater Seal of Evasion.
Allows you to take the brunt of any harass. Not as good but would also help are Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction.
Riven is a slow champion and these can remedy this. It allows you to cover good ground in between your Broken Wings slashes. I also had success with Greater Quintessence of Health and greater quintessence of vigor.
