Knowing a good AP Ez build makes you a more well rounded player. When you really need an extra caster on the team, go for AP Ezreal. It's still Ez, just more magic damage.
Also, commenting on this build. It's a little lacking as far as a guide goes, but you definitely get the point across that Lich Bane procs with Mystic shot, increasing it's physical damage while scaling with AP.
The Runes, you might wanna think getting some Mana Regen seals, seeing as you don't get any mana regen items. Clarity helps ALOT with this, but AP Ezreal tends to use up a lot more mana than AD. I'm also glad to see you didn't go Magic Pen quints; Imo they're just a waste. Using Health Quints might help your early game though; you'd be surprised what you can do with a bit more extra health.
I like the little descriptions on the spells and items as well.

My point is with Lich Bane you can make your little 1st skill hit like an AP skill and that way with MORE HP and a better ultimate. You can easly farm if you know how to use your ultimate correctly you last hit your enemys very easly
Sorry, I don't even know why I wrote all that :/ Guess I was just bored.
But I do see how AP can be effective. You get the Lich Bane early so that covers the Mystic Shot problem. And Mystic Shot also reduces the cooldowns of your other skills. Not to mention if you have full stacks of Mejai's, blue buff, and an Elixir, that could probably get you to 40% cooldown reduction which could make your ult "spammable", so farming isn't a problem.

I think AD makes it much, MUCH easier to farm. And in that sense it's a lot easier to build AD. And I just find that having consistent, constant damage is so much better than having a poor auto and having to wait for your cooldowns to be done, even if your skills hit hard.
It's just burst damage and if you don't land them all then you're dead because your Arcane Shift is on cooldown and you have no crowd control. And your Mystic Shot doesn't do enough damage if you don't have armor penetration, so its just wasting it's incredibly short cooldown.
In regards to Arcane Shift and Essence Flux, they're really just utility with a damage component. Arcane being a low CD Flash, and Essence helping in team fights (sorta) and making tower pushing with a partner incredibly easy.
You can't really do anything if a huge mob is pushing your tower, besides Trueshot Barrageing them, but you don't want to waste it. And you can't contribute in team fights except for occasionally using Essense Flux which doesn't really help since they're not going to be auto attacking the whole time. And your Mystic Shot is just going to be hitting the tanks, which won't do anything because you have no armor penetration.
So, really, AP is only good if you already have heavy hitters on your team and you plan on doing 1v1s (and you can't really push towers). AD is generally good all the time, but even more so if you don't have characters like Tryndamere, Ashe, Xin Zhao, and whoever can hit hard.
And your damage output on AP can be severely migitated if your enemy gets magic resistance, which makes you a little useless.

The best Ezreals I see are always AD, the AP just fails everytime..
