Not Updated For Current Season
The masteries shown here are not yet updated for the current season, the guide author needs to set up the new masteries. As such, they will be different than the masteries you see in-game.
How to play against any character EVER
So basically, If you play smart and freeze your lane just outside your turret range you will never lose as long as you get ganks once in a while. IF you are against a squishy top lane you should wait till you have room to chase and burst them down. IF you are having trouble just use your abilities to clear minion waves and wait for jungle. I have never, ever, lost my lane with this build as long as my team is doing okay. Enjoy, rate, and comment. This is my first submitted build by the way.
I use basic AD carry runes, because I like to do surprising amounts of damage early game. I see no point in changing them, however I would love to hear your responses. I will gladly try out suggestions and tell you how they worked for me.
Standard AD carry masteries, because you are here to dunk enemies not stand around and do nothing. Attack as often as you can safely.
Everyone I know builds Garen straight into damage and crit. I on the otherhand use him AMAZINGLY building health first. You will have great lane sustain, and more often than not your enemy top player will be trying to poke and damage you as much as possible. Garen's passive combined with Warmogs gives you enough health regain to simply step back to your turret for less than a minute to regain almost all of your health, which almost no other champion can compete with. After hopefully getting a couple of kills and/or assists you should be able to purchase an Atma's Impaler with should give you somewhere between 40 and 50 attack power, crit, and armor (everything you need baby), and only gets better as the game goes. Add a frozen hammer for health and a slow, so you can spin all day without them running away. Now that you have an Infinity edge you should be carving them up with critting that spin a lot. Finally, I add a Sunfire Cape to help with sustain, because by now you should be dunking them SO HARD that they are forced to target you in fights.
Q-W-E-R. That's as simple as it gets people. Use your Q to last hit minions if you need to, and E to clear em. You don't have mana so SPAM those abilities if you have to.
Flash: because you will always need it. ALWAYS. this is ranked people don't be dumb
Exhaust? : Early game ganks baby. Q - Exhaust - E - R, and if a jungle comes they are silenced and exhausted already so how much easier does it get? (it doesn't)
You are Mother F***ing Garen. If you play smart you should never push your lane, and therefor always be able to have your lane ganked and/or kill and chase them yourself without having to worry about their turret. Even if you do find yourself hunting down your foes with your jungle by your side; you should already have enough health to take a few tower hits. That is, if you even care at ALL, because Garen goes where he wants nooblords.
In team fights you should be using your silence to stop major damage dealers in their tracks. With Boots of Swiftness and your Q speed buff you should be able to surprise them by how fast you can run into the fight and silence and spin them.
Play smart and you will win against EVERY top.
Ranked play ( DUN. DUN. DUUUUUUUN)
I'm not going to go into detail about the differences in game play between normal and ranked. It's just too much to put here, so I will give you teh basics:
A. FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARM (2 minions waves are better than a kill, and if you freeze your lane near your turret they should be scared to farm therefore putting you ahead)
B. If you aren't going to ward (discuss with your team you nooblord) then you DEFINITELY have to learn to control your push. I use the term "freezing your lane" a lot. This is used in EVERY lane position. This is when you ONLY last hit your minions to the point where you can make sure that they stay JUST outside your turret range making it easy to gank the enemy and retreat if necessary.
C. Know your role. Using Garen with this build makes you both a tank AND a major damage threat to the carries, so your job is to initiate and target carries ASAP.
D. BE ADAPTABLE. If you are a complete moron than you should uninstall this game and go play with yourself in the corner. This ENTIRE game is about strategy, and if you can't adapt you will lose. Not EVERY battle is won the same way. I'm going to assume that if you are serious about ranked play then you know that builds can change mid game if need be.
E. Have fun. Don't take this game so seriously. It's a game you neckbeard. Have fun, and try new things.
Pros / Cons
1. YOU DONT DIE
2. You have a big sword
3. Handsome as heck
1. besides movement speed you have no escape (but you are Garen, so you shouldn't have to)
2. You might have a hard time playing with the massive ***** you get from winning so many games using this build and not having to use your imagination at all.
You should become apart of every champion you play. Knowing your abilities inside and out will make your reaction time increase, which will win games.
