Champion Build Guide

Ride the Wave to Diamond! | Korean Diamond Nautilus Support

By NERF THIS MAN
Introduction
Hello! I'm currently a Diamond III support main, mainly playing nautilus, but my champion pool mostly revolves around supports in general. As such, I wanted to share what I've learned with you all, in the hopes of others hitting their ranked goals. I've got rank 7 mastery with 75k+ points, so I've played most matchups and would like to share my knowledge.

If you have questions or want to see gameplay, visit the following:

Pros / Cons

Pros:

    -Tons of hard CC
    -Formidable Damage
    -Good Peeling / Tank
    -Great Engage
-Some mobility (with q on terrain)

Cons:

    -Hooks can be tricky
-Hooking the wrong person can easily be punished
-Can get poked out early before he can engage
Abilities / Tips
Staggering Blow [Passive]

INNATE: Nautilus's basic attacks deal bonus physical damage and Root icon root his target for 0.75 − 1.5 (based on level) seconds.

This effect cannot occur on the same target more than once every few seconds.

Tips: Use this as soon as you can after your [Q] to prevent an enemy from flashing away. Even if they do in time, the root will still trigger.

Dredge Line [Q]

Nautilus hurls his anchor forward in a line in the target direction. If it hits an enemy, it simultaneously Airborne icon drags them towards Nautilus while he Dash dashes towards them within 0.9 seconds, during which the target is Sight icon revealed, and dealing magic damage and Root icon rooting them for 0.1 seconds.

If the anchor hits terrain instead, Nautilus dashes to that location entirely and Dredge Line refunds 50% of its Cooldown reduction icon cooldown and Mana icon mana cost.

Tips: This is a great tool for getting to lane faster and escaping sticky situations, in addition to engages. Use turrets and terrain to expedite travel, and beware of custom terrain (such as J4's Ultimate and Anivia's wall), because those get hooked as well.

Titan's Wrath [W]

ACTIVE: Nautilus Hybrid resistances icon shields himself for up to 6 seconds.

While the shield holds, his basic attacks deal bonus magic damage over 2 seconds to his target and all enemies around them.

Titan's Wrath resets Nautilus' basic attack timer.

Tips: Use this after your passive auto attack to reset your auto and deal extra damage in trades. Tricks like this will be what will set you apart from the novies.

Riptide [E]

ACTIVE: Nautilus creates 3 waves of explosions that radiate from him over 0.561 seconds, each dealing magic damage to all enemies hit and Slow icon slowing them by an amount that decays over 1.5 seconds.

Enemies hit by subsequent waves beyond the first are dealt half damage.

Tips: This can be used for disengage OR engage, and should be used to help push the wave whenever the enemy bot lane resets.

Depth Charge [R]

ACTIVE: Nautilus Sight icon reveals himself before sending out a Depth Charge 2 Depth Charge that chases the target enemy champion. Upon reaching the target, the charge erupts from beneath them, dealing magic damage and Airborne icon knocking them up for 1 second as well as Stun icon stunning them for a duration.

All enemies hit along the way and those within the eruption are dealt reduced damage, Airborne icon knocked up for 1 second, and are also Stun icon stunned.

Tips: This is a lock on knock up, of which there is no cleansing or escape. As such, it is a form of guaranteed cc, which means that it is the best possible tool for setting up another CC ability such as Ashe's arrow to follow up and chain the cc.
Early Game
In the early game, you do one of three things, based on your ADC: If you're paired with an aggressive carry with a strong early game, you want to force level two, get it off of the execute from your support item, and quickly engage on the enemies (flash auto usually works fine) before they get level two as well. If you have a weak carry but they can safely lane 1v2 for awhile, instead of idling in lane, try to invade with your jungler or roam mid if the option is there. If your carry doesn't want you leaving or is too weak to lane 1v2 at any time, then stay with them to ensure they leave the laning phase alive and untilted.

Make sure to start buying control wards, placing them in river bushes and tri-bush, depending on your side.
Mid Game
After breaking bot tower, you should aim to rotate mid with your carry and send your mid bot lane. Secure vision, and look to pick enemies around objectives; getting kills is nice as is, but try to make them picks which can secure a dragon, turret, or rift herald.
Late Game
Be careful with your engages at this point. If you Q someone other than a carry, mage, or squishy support, you'll likely get picked off instead of being the one doing the picking. Secure vision around key objectives like dragons and baron, but make sure you do so WITH people. The easiest way to die late game is warding alone in enemy territory. Focus key carries on the enemy team, and when that's not possible, or against fed assassins, use your kit to peel your own key carries.
