Have you tested this in ranked? ^^ Does it really work well? Since usually the other team won't line up 3 people at a time for you to use Runaan's Hurricane on them like that (-_-;)

I just had the greatest ARAM game of my life with this build. Of course, I uses sanguine blade instead of BT, but I went 34-18-22 and when I got full build, I didn't die at all. The enemy blitz and Cho'gath were building extremely tanky and none of my allies would do damage to them. I would just come in and kill them in about 3 seconds then we would demolish their carries. I also had a little bit of success in normal Sumoner's Rift matches, but this was by far my best game ever as Kog'Maw.

Very nice guide indeed. Made an account here just to let you know that I tried it and it worked perfectly even though I rarely play Kog.
And I totally disagree with anyone who claims that your guide is in any way not specific or detailed enough! Very well done :)

I'm so glad to have found a successful guide that mostly agree's with my own kog'maw build. It's almost the same except one thing…instead of black cleaver I get athene's unholy grail. All of Kog'maw's abilities benefit from ap so that isn't wasted. The mana regen lets you spam abilities and even if you spend ALL of you're mana, mana font will shoot you mana up to at least let you use bioarcane barrage so you don't have to fear spamming your ult. Finally you get 10% more cooldown reduction for less downtime on bioarcane barrage. How do you feel about my logic?

Great guide! It's been a while since I've played AD Kog'Maw and this build seems really solid. The sustain sounds insane, definitely a vote up for me.

Hi, I started playing an AP on-hit effect build with the same mind set than you. Getting advantage of the on-hit full bonus effect.

That the two build I compare.

and

With your build you got an 358 physical damage (189 damage on hit with Ruunan's hurricane) and an additional 5% of CURRENT health of target.
With my build you have an 98 magic damage on hit (on main and second target) and an 4,18 maximum health of target (and LOT STRONGER Q and E). I like more my version because the on hit effect is much stronger on second target. (but no sustain, huuu)

Hm... I don't quite know how to judge this guide, tbh. But since there are a lot things I don't like about it, and quite frankly confuse me, I will downvote.

So starting with your non-meta build... okay, but why this build? I was reading your pros and cons and I'm pretty convinced that some of them just aren't the case. Runaan's Hurricane isn't guaranteed to hit extra targets, so taking Runaan's Hurricane over something Zeal-based won't really help you 1v1 in comparison. Also not convinced that the lack of MS in this build will help you kite just because you get a Frozen Mallet. Also not convinced about the damage especially with the lack of Last Whisper (yes, I considered Black Cleaver, but there's no comparison between the two - Last Whisper is easily better, it should be core, not Black Cleaver).

I don't get how making him crit-less is making him a more self-reliant Marksman. In fact, it seems the complete opposite to me, because including crit increases his DPS. What your build does in comparison to the meta one is remove one of the fundamental cores of his DPS, lower his ArmPen, lower his overall MS and throw in an even more expensive item to get a passive that's still questionable at best.

I'm honestly baffled.

On your standard build.

Zeal rush is ****. You yourself acknowledge that Kog'Maw's laning is garbage, so what you need to improve last hitting isn't AS/MS/Crit, it's AD and lifesteal sustain in lane. You either need to stack Doran's Blades early or pick up a Vampiric Scepter+ Pickaxe/ B.F. Sword if possible.

Infinity Edge should generally be first rush item ( Bloodthirster/ Blade of the Ruined King if snowballing for some reason), followed by Zeal (possibly upgrade if possible otherwise skip to next item). If the enemy hasn't got much armour, then you can go straight into Bloodthirster/ Blade of the Ruined King (unless you got that first, then you get Infinity Edge instead). If they have got armour, then it should be Last Whisper. Guardian Angel where you are taking too much focus, Quicksilver Sash/ Mercurial Scimitar if necessary, Randuin's Omen if against AD focused comps, Banshee's Veil for burst/AP comps.

tl;dr:

(boots where appropriate)
Infinity Edge -> Zeal (possibly upgrade) -> Last Whisper or Bloodthirster/ Blade of the Ruined King -> the other one you didn't build -> Defensive item.

Other notes:

Enchanted Armor is pointless on any Marksman. None of them really builds enough bonus armour/magic resist to make this mastery point worth taking. You're better off with Recovery for better lane sustain.

Warlord is also a pretty ****ty mastery. It gives nothing early game and negligible amounts late-game. You're better off with Spell Weaving / Blade Weaving , imo.

Scaling Magic Resist Glyphs are questionable. Bot lane support is totally dominated by supports who do primarily magic damage, either splash Flat and Scaling or just go Flat Magic Resist Glyphs. Having only Scaling is not the ideal option at all and will only ensure you get bullied early-game and make your life even more difficult.

Don't use Hybrid Pen Marks or Quints. Headinpants is (was) notoriously known for talking out of his ***. AD Marks are irreplaceable for last hitting and Quints are required for lifesteal sustain + AD for last hits.

I agree with your item choice to a certain point. It seems to me, that you kinda like to build crit items but don't see a way to do that while maintaining your AS-Sustain-OnHit build. But there is a solution for that... you should take at lease one or two crit runes, as they will help you throughout the game. You should conisder early replacement of your boots with either Zephyr or - yay, crit - Phantom Dancer. With your build you can afford to be a little slower, I think. Especially with supports like Lulu or Nunu & Willump, this seems like a decent choice. And having only a small amount of - say 10-25% crit - already boosts your DPS considerably. I wish there were crit auras or buffs :D

Sorry about the late response, but you bring up a lot of good points, especially the replacement of boots with zephyr, I can't believe it never dawned on me but it's an amazing idea, especially as the practice is somewhat falling out of favour recently.

And ya, I tried to go completely away from crit chance, almost like it was the plague, but you bring up a good point, though I hesitate at applying crit runes. I think they would impact the early game a bit too much, but I'll experiment a little and see what I can do. Thanks for the comment!

and RIP green pot XD

got some issues with orbwalk but i'm working on it^^

This guide is fantastic! I'm a total newbie (level 10) and I used this guide for my first game with kogs. As soon as I got my Runaan's and Blade of the Ruined King though - ABSOLUTELY DESTROYED PEOPLE. Logged a pair of double kills over the next 5 minutes and ended the game with 10 kills, 14 assists against on 3 deaths

great work!!

Nice build buddy, its really easy to melt those hp-stacking tanks with kog. Keep this guide updated, its a really nice work

Again, thanks for all the comments guys, and sorry for taking so long to respond to them all. I'm glad this build could help you guys in your games, and thanks for being open-minded enough to try something so crazy-sounding, like so many refuse to do unless a pro has done it with success. I appreciate it all!

I'm glad I converted you to the legion of Kog'maw! Mwahahaha. On a side not, I'm having trouble opening the link that you posted, but I'm glad I could help you to learn this amazing champ.

I found something that needs to be updated. In the core build section you put that botrk does 5% "maximum" health on hit when it is 5% "current" health on hit. Just in case you didn't know.

Oh! Thank you for that correction *fixed*, and sorry it took me so long to respond to all of you guys, I moved to Tokyo some time ago so I have been very busy to say the least. XD

Thank you for making this guide. I was thinking about experimenting with a zephyr instead of a hurricane (the zephyr being basically PD with tenacity but without crits,) because there may not always be a need to hit three targets at once. But is from the same guy who wants a muramana on an ADC...

Anyway, great guide! Thank you for including the 'support page,' and everything melds together so well. The only thing I could ask more of would be pictures/videos explaining proper laning, ult usage for poking, and how do avoid those early game ganks against squishy kog.

Great suggestions. A zephyr certainly is that other attack speed/AD item that would fit interesting into this non-crit build, so I"m glad you mentioned it. I will probably do some experimenting to see how I can throw it in, because you pose some good points.

And those suggestions for the guide are also really good. They might be really time consuming but I do want to do a really big overhaul for this guide and add a bunch of things like that. It really is a love project so if I manage to find a good amount of time (probably next May) I will attempt it. Thanks for the input!

Nice guide!
As a side story, one game I decided to build a sort of hybrid Kog, replacing The Black Cleaver with Nashor's Tooth and The Bloodthirster with a Trinity Force, and it works surprisingly well. The proc on Nashor's Tooth also works on(methinks) the projectiles from Runnan's Hurricane, making you own face much faster, and the proc from Sheen works on them as well. Happy Kog'Maw Days!

Hybrid Kog has always been a dream of mine, because it feels like he's the only AD carry truly capable of it, but what you say is definitely true! I can imagine the ult proc'd trinity force as well as hybrid support in the masteries really lend to a fun-sounding build. XDDD All we need now is a good hybrid pen item that doesn't make jax further OP. But maybe I will try this idea out more. ;D Thanks!

I've tested this buld on 3 games and 1.It's a great build , I love mobility on Kog'Maw , especially that Furor is very helpful , I would get right after BT and 2.Fking Blitzcrank (Kill supports) really counter Kog'Maw if u aren't careful

Ya, poor Kog really gets fked easily with all of these Leonas and Threshes abound. But I'm glad this build is working so well for you. Thanks for the comment!

glazierkr wrote:
Really good kog'maw guide, innovative, strong and with great results, it's a bit more squishier than the standard build in early, but really strong in mid and late game being able to drown ALL other team champs in few seconds due to good positioning, harder to kill than the original buid by far.

I appreciate the comment. The one thing I wanted to do with this build was introduce a new way to play the Marksman role, because, especially after 3 or so years of playing, it's gotten quite repetitive compared to the other roles. I'm glad my intent to do something new was well-received by you!
