Hello everyone! This is my first guide so I figured I should make it for my favorite champion Shaco! In this guide I hope to teach you pretty much everything I know about how to play this Demon Jester, and hopefully make you a deadly surprise for anyone on Summoner Rift!

Items

STARTING ITEMS!

When I play Shaco I find it best to start Doran's Blade, Health Potion, and Sweeping Lens. The Doran's Blade gives you the extra AD, health, and regen you need for early jungling, dueling, and killing. Sweeping Lens I take on pretty much and jungler who is gank heavy. It's like having your own limited time pink ward. Even if you go for and gank and figure out there is a ward in the bush you're standing in then you can clear it and leave knowing that you've at least done something (of course you can just circle back around and kill them all, then you've accomplished a lot more >:D). Now you might be wondering why I don't start Hunter's Machete. Well it's simple, Shaco doesn't need it, it gives no early AD, and if your main focus with this sadistic assassin is jungle clearing, your playing him all wrong.

Ravenous Hydra

This item is essential when playing Shaco. It is responsible for your sustain and clear speed in the jungle. It also gives you a fantastic early game burst. All you have to do is Deceive in behind someone then auto attack them once and use the Ravenous Hydra's active and that can chunk out about half of any ADC's health.

Statikk Shiv

Another essential item for the Demon Jester. This item gives you a good amount of attack speed, which helps with dueling and jungle clear, and the crit chance and passive just add on to your Backstab assassinations. Also the movement speed off this item is great. Combine the movement speed
from this with your Runes and Masteries and you have and extra 10.5% movement speed bonus.

Berserker's Greaves

Ok, by now you've gone into the mid game, the lane phases might be over, and team fights have started to break out. This is when Berserker's Greaves are very helpful. If you find yourself dueling, or soloing dragon (which you can totally do btw), or something of the sorts, you'll be very grateful for that extra attack speed. With the movement speed buff you alread have, and Enchantment: Alacrity you can get from point a to point b faster than a Rammus trying to Smite big ol' Baron Nashor.

Infinity Edge

OMIGOSH! This item give you a RIDICULOUS amount of damage! If you get to this item really no one who you can get to can survive (except a fed Vayne, ain't a power on the rift that can stop her). With an Infinity Edge ,and the build so far, you can obliterate an carry faster than they can ping for assistance.

Last Whisper

What did Purple Team's Ashe say to the Blue Team's Shaco? Nothing, she was dead. With a Last Whisper, 1v1ing you is a thing of the past. Your damage output is almost as insane as you are.

Guardian Angel

What's worse than a Shaco jumping into the middle of your team and killing you carry? Him getting up after you "killed" him and Deceiving away. This item is awesome. You'll get this last (duh) and late game everyone will be reaching their max potential so everyone will start becoming a threat. The durability given from Guardian Angel is the best thing you could ask for late game.

Runes

Quintessences

Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed - I get two of these because they are really helpful when moving around the jungle and ganking lanes.
Greater Quintessence of Life Steal - The 2% life steal given from this quint combined with the slight regen given from Doran's Blade makes all the difference early game.

Seals

Seal of Armor - I run these on pretty much every jungler I play. The slight tankieness and survivability early is very good on Shaco due to his squishieness and lack of defense items.

Marks

Mark of Attack Damage - These snyergize well with the early bonus AD from Doran's Blade & Warlord

Glyphs

Glyph of Attack Speed - Running these gives you and early edge in dueling and jungle clearing.

Masteries

Offensive Mastery Tree

Fury - 4 points into this gives you a 5% attack speed bonus which is helpful when dueling and early jungle clear

Butcher - This is good on any AD jungler. It helps a lot with early jungle clearing.

Feast - Fantastic mastery for early jungle sustain

Brute Force - Extra AD is always helpful for an AD assassin like Shaco

Martial Mastery - 5 AD great early. Gives your auto attack and Two-Shiv Poison that little extra kick.

Executioner - As an AD assassin executing people is key. With Shaco's high early game damage, 5% extra damage is a lot more than you might think and gives your Two-Shiv Poison that extra damage to take out fleeing enemies.

Dangerous Game - This instant regen would be great. It could save you from an Ignite or give you enough mana to Deceive away from on coming attackers after killing an enemy.

Warlord - 5% extra bonus damage may not seem like that much early game but with all the AD items you get late game that is an extra
10 AD, which could mean the difference between life and death

Devastating Strikes - This mastery gives all your moves a good boost in damage. It gives you both Armor Penetration and Magic Penetration. With you Two-Shiv Poison scaling off both AD and AP it gives a lot of extra damage to it.

Havoc - 3% extra all around damage. What more can I say? This makes you all the more powerful.

Defensive Mastery Tree

Block - This is basically only helpful early and mid game, but still helpful none the less.

Tough Skin - Really good for jungle survivability. Gives you that bit of tankieness that Shaco desperately lacks

Bladed Armor - Helps out a lot in jungle clear and if you are soloing dragon or trying to take Baron Nashor.

Utility Mastery Tree

Fleet of Foot - 1.5% movement speed combined with your 2 Greater Quintessence of Movement Speed gives you high early game mobility.

Scout - This is helpful no matter what Trinket you use. Though I prefer Sweeping Lens, Stealth Ward or Scrying Orb are good choice's if you want to catch the enemy jungler off-guard.

Skills

Backstab(Passive) - Shaco deals 20% bonus damage when striking a unit from behind. This is good for surprise attacks with your Deceive and executing fleeing enemies with auto-attacks and Two-Shiv Poison. This is good for jungling too because while minions are distracted by your Jack In The Box you can add that extra damage for quicker clear.

Deceive - Shaco teleports nearby and becomes invisible for 3.5 seconds. His next basic attack within the next 6 seconds will critically strike, dealing 140/160/180/200/220% damage (normal critical strikes deal 200% damage). This is like a personal Flash. Though the teleport distance itself is shorter range you're invisible for 3.5 seconds so you can get up on enemies. It leaves a small cloud of smoke at your original location which can give you away sometimes. One trick I like to use while being chased is to Deceive in place and let your enemies run right by you. You can Deceive over most all walls on the rift but you generally have to be right up next to them before you jump.
Spoiler: Click to view

Jack In The Box - Shaco creates a Jack In The Box at the target location. It will become invisible after 2 seconds, and pop out when an enemy comes near, fearing nearby enemies for 0.5/0.75/1/1.25/1.5 seconds and attacking them. Its attacks deal 35/50/65/80/95 (+20% Ability Power) magic damage and it lasts for 60 seconds while invisible or 5 seconds while firing. This is key for your jungle level 1 start. What you do is get to the the Blue Buff camp and lay your first Jack In The Box at 0:55 seconds. Makes sure to lay the in the very back of the camp so they prioritize on the Golem. Lay them whenever they are off cool down until 1:55 when the Blue Buff camp spawns. With the new changes to Smite you can use it on the Golem and it will be off cool down for the next time you need it.

Two-Shiv Poison - Passive: While Two-Shiv Poison is ready to cast, S haco's basic attacks reduce the target's Movement Speed by 10/15/20/25/30% for 2 seconds. Also reduces minions' chance to hit by 20/22.5/25/27.5/30% for 2 seconds. This snyergizes well with Backstab. Active: Deals 50/90/130/170/210 (+100% bonus Attack Damage) (+100% Ability Power) magic damage to target enemy and reduces their Movement Speed by 10/15/20/25/30% for 3 seconds.. This is your main tool for harassing seeing as how it's your only ranged attack. It's good to use this as a follow up from Deceive to slow the enemy champion.

Hallucinate - This is your ultimate. Shaco vanishes briefly and reappears with a clone that lasts up to 18 seconds. The clone deals 75% of Shaco's damage and receives 50% increased damage. On death, the clone detonates, dealing 300/450/600 (+100% Ability Power) magic damage to nearby enemies. The clone can be controlled by pressing the "R" key and the clone will move to/attack whatever your mouse is on. Also the clone does proc on hit effects like Ravenous Hydra and the Statikk Shiv passive.

Spells

Smite & Ignite

Smite - This is a requirement for EVERY jungler. With Shaco's lack of jungle clear speed early this very helpful. Also used to secure Baron Nashor and the dragon.

Ignite - I don't really take this on any other jungler. What makes Shaco different from other junglers is that he is a carry jungle. Most junglers it's better to give up kills to the laners if you can help it but Shaco needs the kills to keep up with everyone else.

Other Summoner Spells

Flash - As I said in my earlier spoiler, Deceive makes flash kind of redundant. You can take it if you're newer to the Demon Jester and aren't comfortable with Ignite yet, but if you want to ever carry you should just get used to Ignite.

Exhaust - This is the ONLY other summoner I think would work on Shaco. He does lack hard cc so other than his Jack In The Box, so I could see using this if you were not going to try to kill the enemy jungler at all.

All other Summoner Spell - All others are a NO GO, unless you are hardcore trolling (which I do not in any way recommend).

How to play the Demon Jester

Start of the Game

After the jungle start at the Blue Buff camp, (as described in the Jack In The Box Description), you next objective should be to kill the enemy jungler and, in the process, secure first blood. You do this by taking a point in your Deceive level 2 and running quickly to the enemy red. Once at the enemy red you can set up 1, maybe 2, Jack In The Boxes in the Red Buff bush. Once they show up make sure you let them start the camp so that the monsters are attacking and weakening them. Then jump behind them with Deceive and immediately Ignite them. You do this because most all junglers have some way to regenerate health and if they do Flash away, the DoT might be enough to bring them down. DO NOT attempt this when you KNOW that the enemy jungler started Red. With that in mind there are a couple junglers you DO NOT try this against. Some of these junglers are: Nasus, Lee Sin, Aatrox, Udyr, and Shyvana.

Early and Mid Game

Shaco is a really strong ganker early game. Gank any time you see an opprotunity. Though you main focus should NOT be farming, it is always key to be gaining experience, gold, and maintaining control of your buffs. Mid game you have key focuses. One, dragon control; dragon is a huge factor in any victory, with proper control your team can sky rocket ahead of the enemy team. Two, assassinating carries; you should be popping ADCs left and right (and if the mid is an assassin or just a squishy AP nuker then they are a focus too). Last and probabl the MOST IMPORTANT is vision on Baron Nashor. With pink vision wards no longer having an expire time keeping one hidden in the Baron pit is pretty much mandatory. You have no idea how many games I've lost because no one kept vision on Baron.

Late Game

Late Game is pretty fun with Shaco. Being able to take people out in the blink of an eye is very rewarding. You should use your high mobility and damage to stop and take out split pushers, push lanes yourself, and secure objectives. Speaking of securing objectives, late game you can easily and quickly duo Baron Nashor. Just make sure you have a Red Buff and Hallucinate up and ready.
