Introduction
This is my first build, so I decided to choose my favourite mage: Lux.
In this guide I'll focus in a mid lane Lux, which I think is a good option!
Enjoy ^^
This rune build is adapted to self-confident players, this means the ones who can take a good early damage without depending too much in mana.
So, I take:
9x Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
9x Greater Seal of Ability Power
9x Greater Glyph of Ability Power
3x Greater Quintessence of Ability Power
But if you don't feel confident yet, you can replace the Greater Seal of Ability Power for Greater Seal of Replenishment; it'll help you if you are spammer/mana starving.

I use the typical mid lane spells: Flash and Teleport.
Flash: I always pick Flash, it's useful to run away or to chase someone.
Teleport: This spell will help you maintain mid lane relatively safe, I always try to go back when I kill my opponent or if I really need mana and/or health.
Alternatives:
- Clarity: if you are not going mid lane or you think you cannot maintain your mana, pick Clarity. When you feel confident, replace this spell for Teleport.
- There can be another alternatives, that's up to you :)

I will not focus my item build in early, mid or late game. I have the opinion that the item build depends on the team you're facing and/or in the game situation. It depends also if you are feeded or not, there's many alternatives in both sides.
Well, for items I try to abuse of Ability Power and some Health. These two attributes together can lead to a power Lux in spells and and a hard Lux to kill.
The Amplifying Tome will give you 20 AP and the Mana Potion will help you a little bit if you are mid lane. Sometimes I pick Health Potion, depending on the Champion I'm facing.
Then I pick Boots and I try to get Mejai's Soulstealer the fast as I can. Mejai's early stacks can really help you and your team to get some kills. If you think you need magic penetration rather than AP, then choose Sorcerer's Shoes.
The fun begins when you get Lich Bane :D Its passive (2 sec cooldown) + Illumination = good damage with normal attack! The AP, mana and Magic Resist boost will give you good survivability, good damage with spells and the mana you need. Good, isn't it? ;)
The next item build depends on the situation in the game:
- If you feel you are too focused, try to get Rylai's Crystal Scepter or other item with AP and health in order to improve your health or Banshee's Veil if you are being too much CC'd.
- If you think you can get some kills for your team without being focused, buy Rabadon's Deathcap ^^ the additional 140 AP can lead to some unexpected situations for the opponent's team ;)

I always try to up Lucent Singularity first and when I can; the slow and the skill itself is very good for harrass and for a scouting tool.
Then I try to improve Prismatic Barrier and Light Binding at the same time.
And, of course, Finales Funkeln at levels 6, 11 and 16.
