I currently use those masteries for any tanky support.
Taric, Leona, Alistar, Thresh and so on.
They've everything I want, and need.

I haven't tried any other runes, and I'm not going to try other runes cause those work just fine. They're primary made for early game, and that's because if you win early game, mid game is easy done.
Atleast at low Elo and in normal games.
They've extra healing (AP Marks), Extra hp, MR and Gold! :D

Start with Relic Shield 2-3 hp pots, 1 mana pots and Warding Trinket.
That should work just fine untill you can recall for your Sighstone, or upgrade your Relic Shield. (I recommend Sighstone). And remember to change your Warding Trinket into Sweeping Lenz once you got Sighstone.
If you're against a heavy AD team, consider Randuin's Omen or Thornmail.
This build is a Little lazy duo to Use-Items :D

Use your sighstone! Keep Dragon warded! I seen people do it at level 3 already!

I recommend that you either start with your Q (Heal), or your E (stun).
It is very situational on the enemy adc, the enemy support, and your adc.
If you're not sure, just pick Q, and Heal your jungler aswell! :D (If he starts at your side)
But God I love Taric duo to his W, which increases your Allies armor!
