Dota 2 and LoL are entirely different games, I think that both games will have a huge playerbase but not "take" much from each other.
LoL will probably be a bit more popular, but Dota 2 is a very good competitor in eSports popularity.

Saying DOTA 2 will make people jump ship from LoL is like saying Call of Duty would make people jump ship from Team Fortress 2. MOBA games or whatever you like to call them are a genre now, with enough differences between the games that the term DOTA clone does not apply anymore. DOTA people will play DOTA, and LoL people will play LoL.
