I have seen plenty of bad Vlads in my time. In my opinion the biggest thing about Vlad is actually knowing your opponent. And knowing WHEN to use 
Sanguine Pool.
Like fighting a Malzahar for instance. You have HAVE to know and respect his ult. SO you must always ensure you have enough HP to survive it and get away. And that is very simplified. Another tip is if you are good on HP to absorb his Malefic Visions to ensure he doesn't get mana back and slow his creep farm.

just played a game the other day as ww, wanted to gank vlad at mid. after waiting a few seconds he pooled to harass my teammate at mid, and once pool ended i jumped out of the bush and ulted him.
needless to say he died.

I found a way to beat him. Get spirit visage and a negatron cloak first after getting ur revolver. and you still do more dmg than you do to him then urself. his ult will only suck like 1/3 of your health
