Draven, the Glorious Executioner Revealed!
Draven is poised to enter the League this coming patch. This champion of the arena knows the value of enjoying what you do – even if your line of work happens to involve grisly executions!
For a ranged Attack Damage champion like Draven, proper positioning is extremely important for maximizing your damage potential while remaining safe. For Draven, however, good positioning will also allow you to utilize your primary damage ability, Spinning Axe, to its fullest potential. Upon activation, Draven’s next basic attack will deal bonus damage and cause his signature throwing axe to bounce high into the air. Catching the axe will refresh the effect, causing Draven’s next basic attack to also become a Spinning Axe. After a couple of catches, Draven can even activate the ability a second time to utilize two Spinning Axes at once!
Since positioning is so important to for this flashy ranged carry, we’ve also equipped Draven with some additional skills to keep him on the offensive. Activating Blood Rush will give you just the boost of speed that you need to get out of trouble, keep up the chase or rapidly reposition to catch a falling throwing axe. As an added bonus each time you make a successful catch, the cooldown for Blood Rush is refreshed, allowing you to activate it again to maintain momentum. Additionally, the slow and knockback from Stand Aside can help you chase down a fleeing enemy so you can continue your onslaught.
If you really want to showcase your trick shot skills, Draven’s ultimate, Whirling Death, is sure to make the crowd go wild. Upon activation, Draven will roll out both his hand axes in a global line attack, dealing damage to each enemy in their path. By reactivating Whirling Death you can recall your hand axes to your current location, bringing Whirling Death back around for another pass through the enemy team. Repositioning yourself with Blood Rush and knocking enemy opponents back into the line of fire with Stand Aside can turn this second run into a truly impressive and devastating spectacle of death!

Abilities
- Wicked Blades (passive) - Draven's Critical Strikes deal bonus physical damage over time. Spinning Axe also causes this effect even if it does not Critically Strike.
- Spinning Axe - Draven's next attack will deal bonus physical damage. This axe will ricochet off the target high up into the air. If Draven catches it, he automatically readies another Spinning Axe. Draven can have two Spinning Axes at once.
- Blood Rush - Draven gains increased Movement Speed and Attack Speed. The Movement Speed bonus decreases rapidly over its duration. Catching a Spinning Axe will refresh the cooldown of Blood Rush.
- Stand Aside - Draven throws his axes, dealing physical damage to targets hit and knocking them aside. Targets hit are slowed.
- Whirling Death (Ultimate) - Draven hurls two massive axes dealing physical damage to each unit struck. Whirling Death slowly reverses direction and returns to Draven after striking an enemy champion. Draven may also activate this ability while the axes are in flight to cause it to return early. Deals less damage for each unit hit and resets when the axes reverse direction.

Lore
Unlike his brother Darius, victory in battle was never enough for Draven. He craved recognition, acclaim, and glory. He first sought greatness in the Noxian military, but his flair for the dramatic went severely underappreciated. Thirsting for a method to share ''Draven'' with the world, he turned his attention to the prison system. There he carved out the celebrity he desired by turning the tedious affair of executions into a premiere spectacle.
At Draven's first execution, he shocked onlookers when he ordered the doomed prisoner to run for dear life. Just before the man managed to flee from sight, Draven brought him down with a flawless throw of his axe. Soon, all Draven's executions became a gauntlet through which Noxian prisoners raced for a final chance at life. He used this trial as his own personal stage, and turned executions into a leading form of entertainment. He rallied onlookers into a frenzy, while desperate prisoners scrambled to evade him. They never succeeded. Rejecting the solemn, black uniforms of Noxian executioners Draven donned bright outfits and developed flashy signature moves to distinguish himself. Crowds flocked to see Draven in action, and tales of his performances spread quickly. As his popularity grew, so did his already-inflated ego. He belonged at the center of attention. Before long, the scope of his ambitions outgrew the population of Noxus. He decided that the glorious exploits of Draven should be put on display for the entire world.

CLG-EU played another The Gaming Series match versus Eclypsia today. CLG won 2 to 0 earning 3 points towards the TGS circuit. They are now leading their circuit group with 4 points, but there are many more games to come! I’d like to share with you some of the highlights and take-aways from these matches.
Game 1
|
CLG: APWickd – Snoopeh – Froggen – Kog’maw Yellowpete – S***bag Krepo - |
Eclypsia: Arquel – Imsofresh – Shlava – Fredy123 – Havoc24 – |
(skip to 13:00)
The first thing you might notice is Froggen plays AP Kog’maw, which is an unusual pick. If you watch the match you will see he is a force to be reckoned with. With his build of Archangel’s Staff and Rylai’s Crystal scepter he can kill people with just spamming his ult, and with that range it’s a very intimidating thing.
Playing AP Kog’maw with an AD Carry like Corki makes for a great poke team composition. You will see that later Eclypsia can’t even get near the enemy team because they get poked down too fast to put up a fight. Soraka supports this composition by providing mana and ensuring her teams health stays higher than the enemy’s.
Something worth pointing out is that Nocturne starts at his red so that mundo can’t steal it. A common jungle mundo strategy (and fast jungler strategy in general) is to get a strong leash on Blue so that they can save smite and steal the enemy jungler’s red. Recognizing possibilities like these and countering it will make you a stronger player.
You will notice that the Taric Tristana lane is super aggressive, and this is exactly how it should be. Tristana is great in a kill lane because of her insane level 2 damage. They don’t get a kill until pretty lane in the lane phase because Soraka can just heal up all of their damage, but they bring Corki down to less than 100 health multiple times.
Mundo gets first blood on Darius and makes a point of ganking top frequently. One of the problems with Darius top is that he has no escape, which is why it was a bit of a risky pick. Mundo capitalized on this by ganking frequently. APWickd also made sure to get Renekton because of his strong early game and lane phase so that Darius couldn’t bully him with hemorrhage.
Pay attention to how well CLG wards the enemy jungle. This gives them such an advantage in later teamfights and lets Kog snipe like crazy.
Game 2
|
CLG: APWickd – Snoopeh – Froggen – Kog’maw Yellowpete – S***bag Krepo - |
Eclypsia: Arquel – Imsofresh – Shlava – Fredy123 – Havoc24 – |
We see Froggen on AP Kog’maw again. Once again they pick an AD carry with great poke, in this case Ezreal, combined with Soraka to create a great poke team composition.
There was a very interesting strategy on Eclypsia’s part, and that was to have Zilean start with a Doran’s Ring and Ashe to start with boots of speed, a sight ward, and a health pot. I think this is a pretty good strategy, because Ashe’s and Zilean’s poke is SO strong when Zilean starts with some AP. However, I would have banned Soraka if you were going for this strategy since she counters it with her amazing sustain.
Maokai secures first blood on bottom lane with a well timed gank. I point this out because CLG has the timing down perfectly on Eclypsia’s wards. You will watch a ward run out and then Snoopeh just sneak in for the kill! It’s really amazing gameplay and timing wards is something every serious player should try to do.
Alistar tried to gank malphite top multiple times, but Malphite had perfect timing on using his ult to either kill or survive. There is an absolutely AMAZING juke by Wickd you should all watch at 23:45. Let’s just say he lives through a 3 man gank. ;)
Taking cleanse on Kog’maw saved Froggen from several Ashe / Alistar initiations. It’s amazing to see super speed alistar barreling at a kog’maw, just for the kog’maw to cleanse an Ashe arrow and walk away. AP Kog really doesn’t need ignite since he can kill from so far away, so taking cleanse is a really smart choice. There’s a HILARIOUS moment at 30:00 where Kog escapes using cleanse, then almost takes Zilean down from full health.

All I can say is these matches were really fun to watch. Game 2 was one of my favorite games I’ve watched recently. Watching Froggen pew pew with AP Kog’maw is really enjoyable. I get the feeling I’m going to see a lot more AP Kog’maws in my games in the near future. :)
