Hi there, I'm new to League of Legends, and have recently started playing Jarvan IV.

I have been playing him as a tank for a couple of games, and I find him quite awesome.

One of his skill, Golden Aegis, gives him the power to tank a couple of hits. However, it has a very long cool down.

As such, I was wondering, is it viable to build a CDR Jarvan, and if so, what items should I go about buying?

Thanks. ^^

Well, personally I like CDR for Jarvan.
When I play tank Jarvan, I tend to get some CDR from Randuin's and/or Frozen Heart, depending on the enemy team's setup. Furthermore Brutalizer/youmuus is good for a more damage oriented Jarvan. All 3 items give you CDR, and they work well with Jarvan. I've also considered Eleia's Miracle + CDR boots, in order to get tenacity and a lot of CDR. Dunno how it works though.

Just thought of another thing:
Getting CDR also makes you able to dash up enemies more consistently in teamfights, making you able to protect your teammates better, when playing tank Jarvan. That can make you a better addition to a team.

No problem mate. :)

There's also the possibility of getting Shurelya's Reverie, though I haven't tried it on Jarvan yet. But he is mana hungry, HP regeneration is also decent for him, so I don't think it's that bad an item for Jarvan.

Just tried a couple of builds.

Shurelya's Reverie is a great item for him, with it, he can stay in lane for quite some time.

It also provides a free AoE ghost for chasing or running.

Next, I went for Merc boots, to absorb CC for initiating.

Followed by Randiun, and Frozen Heart.

Ended with a Banshee.

I like starting with a regrowth pendant to turn into a philo stone when I'm laning, since you shouldnt be spamming your skills until lvl 4-6 anyways (and this is when you run into mana problems). After philo, I get merc treads and then wriggles. I follow up with sheen, and this usually solves most of my mana problems while giving me awesome damage. Finish trinity and then get banshees/frozen heart depending on their team. I find that if your team knows whats it's doing, one dash and ult should be enough (isolate their carries and soak up their damage with your tankiness while your team mops up the rest of their team). The 20% CDR from frozen heart should be enough IMO (and also goes towards helping solve mana hungriness).

I have to agree with the above poster on that Frozen Heart's CDR should be sufficient should you feel you need CDR. Mercury's Treads more often than not are just too good for Jarvan not to get.

Here is a tank build I have been wanting to test out more. It is based on CDR as well. This is pasted straight from my guide.

CDR TANK!

Item 1: Ionian Boots of Lucidity
Item 2: Wriggle's Lantern

Tank Items 3-5 are interchangeable depending on what mitigation you need first

Item 3: Glacial Shroud ---> Frozen Heart (upgrade later if you need to)
Item 4: Banshee's Veil / Force of Nature (only if you are getting Warmog's Armor)
Item 5: Sunfire Aegis / Randuin's Omen / Warmog's Armor

Item 6: Atma's Impaler

Due to the low HP total this build has due to Frozen Heart I would skip the Force of Nature that I normally would get. However it is still viable even in this build. Especially if you plan on getting Warmog's Armor. With Randuin's Armor this build has 40% CDR. Or you can use flat CDR blues to get the 40%.
