Sorry to necro an old thread, but why do people think the build in this is so terrible? Is it just the two damage items at the end?

Getting Manamune delays both your damage and your survivability for a mana pool which is very difficult to build up on a champion who has long cooldowns. To say that Manamune/ToG gives you more survivability is ignoring the fact that it's survivability which is particularly situational. A complete Trinity Force gives you 250 HP, whereas a charged Manamune only gives you 350-1350 MP depending on how much you're sitting there autoattacking and Overdriving which becomes somewhere between 175-675 extra HP for ten seconds once per minute when you're nearly dead.

Frozen Heart may also look like a fantastic item, but Randuin's Omen gives you much more reliable tankiness seeing as you only gain that 250 extra HP from your 500 mana once per minute, if it's still in your pool at the time, and only if you're not burst down from >20% HP to 0 in a single fed-AP-carry nuke. Not to mention the fantastic active.

As for the damage items, I suspect the IE is because, well, it's one of the biggest damage items in the game. And also, Power Fist can crit. BT, I'll admit, seems misplaced, especially because you're likely to die in teamfights and lose all the farm on it.

A serious question: what would you replace those last two items with if you wanted damage? Infinity Edge probably gives you the most damage out of any item, and is nice as an expensive endgame luxury item, though Searz might enlighten me on whether Last Whisper does more damage on a champion who autoattacks as much as Blitz does given that Power Fist can actually crit. I do like the idea of Atma's though.

I just found it strange that the build was so universally trashed, particularly as it's quite close to Doublelift's build.

EDIT: Maybe Ghostblade instead of IE?

Randuin's Omen is kind of lame on Blitzcrank.

Glacial Shroud is infinitely more popular, because you want to build up mana for Mana Barrier.
Mercury's Treads is also a much better pick then Ionian boots. Probably because you buy Frozen Heart with all that CDR.

The more mana you have, the more ******edly unkillable you are with all those disruptive abilities.

Infinity edge or Bloodthirster isn't so bad, but you'd typically only want one of those and opt for more utility or defense.

See, this is what I'm contesting: do you want to build up mana for Mana Barrier? Why not just get more health, which is always available? Frozen Heart is only giving you 250 more HP if your shield is popped, and only for 10 seconds once per minute. And that's if you don't end up in the unlucky situation where some fed AP carry bursts you from 21% HP to 0 entirely. The multiplicative stats from Randuin's Omen gives you more survivability, reliably. You're more ******edly unkillable with health than mana.

I always thought Randuin's active on him was kind of cool anyway. Pull someone in, knock them up, silence them. Still getting away? Randuin's, W, chase, E.

Also, I didn't realise Ionian Boots were picked instead of Merc Treads. That's dumb.

Mana Barrier pops up right when you need it.

You can be more aggressive or reckless without needing to worry (that doesn't mean you go kamakazi, just commit to fights when you have the upper hand). The moment mana-barrier is popped, you know it's time to finish what you're doing and back off asap. It's an excellent signal time for that.

It's about maximizing the use of one of your skills. Frozen Heart gives a ton of armor and reduces attack speed, which makes it just as good as Randuin's Omen, given what you say about it giving addition effective health.

It's also a built-in bait. Enemies will dive you more often then not because all they see is you at 30% health. When that happens, you get a super-shield from your passive, instantly turning fights around. A big "I don't think so!" when they thought they had the upper-hand.

Basically, you're severely underestimating Mana Barrier.
