Make sure to max Q over everything else. Most dmg for your mana/cdr. AMAZING POKE with the ball. try and hide your ball from time to time to throw people off. mainly only in team fights. sheild your initiator even before he initiates because the added magic/armor res will help alot
If you get focused, and have at least 1 level in your shield, make sure you have the ball on you/above you so you get the added resistances, that extra 10/20/30 armor/magic res from shield throughout the game will save your *** more than you will realize, plus the shield it gives you, but you just have to have the ball above your head to get the added magic/armor res.
Another thing i cant stress enough, your AA will ALWAYS deal more dmg then their ap carry. ABUSE IT!! early game during laning you can zone your counter part with just AAs and using your Q command correctly.
Remember orianna will always have a target on her back, with that being said you can expect people to try and kill you and you can use that to your advantage :)

People say Orianna is one of the best mids, and she is. I main Ap carries/mid and she is my 2nd best. BUT an Ori vs my Brand...lets just say GG :) feel free to ad me regarding any other AP characters or questions. Im pretty knowledgeable in the whole area of the game.
another thing, in my oipion, Rod of Ages is a must on her in ranked...everything she needs. nice mana pool to spam as well.
people in rank usually know to give you blue after level 6, so if your doing good and can rush an early deathcap, not recommeded without a good team in ranked, then do so and use blue to the fullest. other than that start boots 3 pot, then get 1-2 dorans rings, then sorc/cdr boots. after that cataylast/rod of ages/deathcap/void staff. after that, if they have good teamwork/cc ill sell my sorc/cdr boots for merc treds. game is usually over by then.

thank's for the post ...ive heard some people say to throw in a lich bane into the build is that viable at all? i love love this char i just seem to be dying alot ...i really wanna get beast with her ...if you could post some vids that would be awesome

na, lichbane is nice, but if your dying alot dont worry about it intell you learn how to position yourself correctly ><

i usually alway's mid but sometimes it's nice to play with another character. i sent you a friend request also ....i think the reason i die alot is what you said i'm always a target ...and most deaths are ganks ...i've had some really good games and some really bad games also ..but she is a great pusher and most people know better than to get close
DON'T DUO LANE WITH HER OR ANY AP CARRIES. They are solo for a reason: their damage scales with level, and they are VERY farm dependent. Their ganks are also real nasty, and as mid you have access to both bot and top lanes.
Basically what Liqur said is correct, but as a habit that Chandro got me really hooked on, with EVERY AP, I go 3 Doran's, sorcs, hextech revolver, deathcap, wota, and then lich on ori. The lich synergizes really well with your passive, and all the stats from it are useful. Even though you are doing AoE damage, so you get reduced effect from spell vamp, it turns out to be a LOT more than with single target spells, since, it is AoE, and as such hits multiple targets. Read the WotA section in my Gragas guide for more info on why WotA is basically core, imo, on basically EVERY AP carry.
I am planning on releasing an Orianna guide in a few weeks as well, so keep your eyes peeled for that.

As for the death issue, just be careful, ward, and use your ball to facecheck. Use your W if you get caught to haste you up and slow down pursuers.
