Well for Anivia she was never really popular to begin with, but her mana problems are huge early game. Jarvan just doesn't do as well top lane after his nerfs, but jungling on him is still good. Also Jarvan has glitches with his ult, for example the other day I saw someone just walk out of my ult without flash or any skills. The rest I don't really play.

Gragas is still picked a fair amount on EU its just hes very skill shot oriented so hes not that popular, hes not that popular in NA simply due to Americans not wanting to be reminded of what 1/3 of their population look like.
Warwick got hit hard by S2 jungle changes like other old-school junglers like Fiddlesticks. Hes a beast in sustaining but that matters almost squat in comparison to the past and he just can't keep up with the modern fast clearing; early ganking junglers: Lee Sin, Shyvana, Udyr etc. Although, he will be get major buffs apparently within two patches as confirmed from some of my sources.
Malzahar is countered way too hard by Quicksilver Sash which is both cheap and easy accessible. Also, his late-game isn't as good compared to other top AP mid picks and his ultimate his channeled on the spot thus easily interruptable.
What Anivia? Shes used quite often and in fact thanks to Froggen is becoming more popular and is rather easy to access (3150 IP) though very difficult to master.
Jarvan IV is still used as a jungler rather then a top laner as he was in the past which he fell out of due to lack of damage and sustain. Even as a jungler he isn't used that much since hes rather inefficient with his mana and doesn't clear that fast, usually just simply better choices. Lots of the latest champions (and others) have in-built flashes countering his ultimate Cataclysm, heck even Tumble goes through it.

Well, thanks for the responses. I started playing League around the time Riven came out. It was in the post season 1 or pre season 2. Forogt what it was called. Its interesting to see how champions come and go. Or how the meta changes.
I made this thread not just so I can get my anwsers, but to see how champions come and go and why. Oh well i got my answrs so I can't complain.
P.S Its a pity about Malz. He's a really fun charcter with a fairly unique passive. If they chagned his ulti more people would proabbly start playing him. Still love him tough. Him and gragas are underpalyed one the NA servers.

well i started playing around shen and kennen release, so i've seen a lot of ****. if you know what i mean.
i'm starting to see a trend on jungle mundo though, he's a really strong, fast clearer.

Anivia's not hard to master.
Acquire blue, push lane, take wraiths, push lane, take other side of river wraiths(don't forget to kill the opponent if he tries to CS while u're pushing the lane), push the lane.... Rinse repeat.
When u don't have blue, u better either have: 3 dorans, tear of the goddes or RoA.

Shes like Udyr. Not the highest skill cap in the game but they are above average.
The jungle remake opened up a lot of interesting champions for the jungle. While you can jugnle as Soraka or Ez they are mostly jokes. They can net you wins if it catches the enemy team by suprise and they don't know how to react to it.
but lets be honest. Any tryhard (for lack of a better word or term) would choose Noc, Lee Sin, Rammus, Udyr over Ez and Soraka.

If you honestly believe that is the skill-cap of Anivia (aka what "master" pragmatically is saying in achieving that cap) then there is no point of me wasting my time explaining otherwise, stop trolling.

She is nothing like Udyr. Udyr has zero skill-shots and achieving his skill cap mainly constitutes of knowing how to use bear stance effectively in team-fights and timing turtle stance correctly aka no where near as high.

You misunderstood what I said. I never said that they had similar playstyles or abilities. Just that they have higher skillcaps than most champions. Might bot be the highest in the game but higher than most.

What happened to champions that fell out of style?
Some got abandoned cause of nerfs. Orianna and Shen fall into this category.
Newer champions outclassed the previously preferred one(s). Personally I don't now about this one. But I see a lot of people using this reason so I just threw it in here.
Others are still completely viable but you just don't seem them that much anymore. Brand would be a perfect example. No one in there right mind would call him underpowered. In fact most would say hes quite overpowered. For whatever reason I don't see him played as much as before. Maybe people simply got bored of playing the same champions.
My question is what happened to the following champions? Gragas, Warwick, Malzahar, Anivia, Jarvan? There more that don't come to mind.
Also, what champions do you remember being really popular only to fade away for whatever reason?
