Introduction

Hello all :)

This is my first guide and im not a native english-speaker. So please excuse all the mistakes i may do :P

Note that i mostly play Orianna in Midlane and this guide is mainly for Mid-Oriannas.

This is one of my ways to play Orianna and i would like to get some comments and possible improvements on my build. Dont hesitate to criticize the guide as long as it happens in a productive manner.

Runes

For runes i go with a pretty standard caster setup.

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration and Greater Quintessence of Ability Power give nice dmg early on to hara$s your opponent. Greater Seal of Scaling Mana Regeneration are quite useful cause Orianna eats mana like crazy. The Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power are good for lategame.

I havent really tried other runes with her yet and i dont see why i should ;D

Masteries

I pretty much take every point that increases my damage-output as a caster.

Expanded Mind , Meditation and Runic Affinity serve Orianna well cause of her high need of mana.

Summoner's Wrath and Summoner's Insight for improved Ignite and Flash. I also like to take the point in Improved Recall .

As with runes this part is mostly depending on your personal preferences.

Skills

Clockwork Windup (Passive)


Orianna's autoattacks deal additional 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 (+20% of ability power) magic damage every hit. Subsequent attacks on the same target within 4 seconds will add 15% more damage per hit. This bonus stacks up to three times.

A sweet passive imho. It helps you get lasthits on minions very easily and its also quite useful when getting blue buff. When fighting an enemy dont forget to auto attack him. This passive is often underestimated but it can really hurt your opponent.


Command: Attack


Orianna commands her ball to fly towards target location, dealing 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+60% of ability power) damage to targets hit but dealing 10% less damage for each additional target hit (minimum 40%). Her ball remains behind at that location afterwards.

Besides the shield this your only way to move the ball around. While laning use it to poke and farm. Place it into the minion wave or infront of you so its harder to predict for the enemy. Also use it to scout bushes or certain areas (baron, drake etc).


Command: Dissonance


Orianna commands her ball to emit an electric pulse, dealing 70 / 115 / 160 / 205 / 250 (+50% of ability power) damage to units around it. Afterwards, the ball leaves a field behind for 3 seconds that speeds up allies and slows enemies for 2 seconds for 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40 % movement speed.

When you hit enemies with Command: Attack use this immediately after for more damage. If a teammate is in trouble shield him and use it to speed him up while slowing enemies that chase him. Even if there is no fight i use it to get me and my team around the map faster.


Command: Protect


(Passive): The allied champion the ball is attached to gains 10/15/20/25/30 bonus armor and magic resistance.

(Active): Orianna commands her ball to fly to and attach onto an allied champion, dealing 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 / 180 (+30% of ability power) damage to enemies it passes through and shielding the allied champion 4 seconds for 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+40% of ability power) when it arrives.

This is a nice shield and it can often save you or your teammates from dying. It really can make a difference in clutch situations. The travel through damage is a nice bonus. Before starting a teamfight use it on someone who is about to initiate (Morgana with Soul Shackles for example) to give him extra protection and get your ball right into the center of action.


Command: Shockwave


Orianna commands her ball to emit a shockwave after a short delay, flinging affected enemies in the vicinity into the air a set distance towards, and possibly over, her ball. Deals 150 / 225 / 300 (+70% of ability power) damage.

Use it in teamfights when you hit important enemies with Q and W for insane damage. You can also use it to help mates in dangerous situations. Shield them, then attack the enemy with Q, ult them away from your mate and slow them right after with W. You can also use it to prevent enemies from getting away. Speed yourself up with W, Q on enemy in range and ult him to get tossed back to you. It also can be a great asset to other ults (Morgana, Amumu, Galio, Fiddle, Kennen or Nunu etc).

Skill Sequence

R > Q > W > E

In early levels i usually barely use any of my abilties on minions. Depending on my enemies playstyle i poke a bit here and there with Q-W-Combo when he comes too close or if we plan an early gank on him. Mainly i concentrate on farming with lasthits till level 4-6.

I level out Command: Attack first for the secure damage, taking one point in Command: Dissonance at level 2 and one in Command: Protect at level 4.

Items

Be aware that the items i get after the deathcap vary from game to game. You cant tell for sure what things you will need in different games as its strongly depending on your team and the enemy!

First i buy Boots of Speed and three Health Potions so i can avoid and sustain early harassment from my enemy.

When i farmed 1245 or more gold i go back to base and buy a Fiendish Codex and Kage's Lucky Pick if possible. This gives me a decent boost of AP, some very useful manareg and CDR which is very important for Orianna in teamfights and smaller skirmishes. The bonus gold of Kage's Lucky Pick helps me to get my next items faster. I sell it later on when all item-slots are used.

The next big item for me is Rabadon's Deathcap for pretty obvious reasons. Normally i try to get a Needlessly Large Rod first, then Ionian Boots of Lucidity. After i got those i finish the Deathcap.

Depending on my lane opponent and what damage the enemy team does mostly and who is doing well in their team i then go for Zhonya's Hourglass or Abyssal Scepter. If the game is going great for me i swap this item and go straight for the next one.

Then i complete Nashor's Tooth. This item is great for Orianna i think for several reasons. It gives 65 AP which isnt bad. 50 Attack Speed are also good for Orianna due to her passive. It lets you farm better and you can use your passive more effective against enemy champions. Furthermore it decreases your cooldowns by 25% which pretty much allows you to spam your Q, W and E in teamfight situations.

After Nashors Tooth my item choice very strongly depends on how the game is going. Most games are over at that point anyways but if not your last items are very situational.

Here are a few options for these items:

Will of the Ancients A rather cheap item that gives you good spell vamp. I sometimes tried this item and it definitely works for Orianna in various situations. Consider buying this when you have teammates who would benefit from the aura or when you need more sustain.

Void Staff A great item if the enemy team or a single player you specially want to take out is stacking magic resistance.

Lich Bane Also a useful item but i barely use it for some reason ;D

Guardian Angel Get this if you are getting focused too often. The passive can turn out to be vital for teamfights.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter If you want more AP and Health this item is your choice. The AP boost is nice but i think the slow ist wasted on Orianna. She already got one with Command: Dissonance.

Of course if you have finished your build and the game is still going you buy Elixir of Brilliance, Elixir of Fortitude and Elixir of Agility.

Farming

Farming is very easy with Orianna. In early levels you can last hit minions pretty good due to the passive and later on, especially when you have blue buff, you can use Q and W to farm up creepwaves in no time.

Very important:

Try to get blue buff as often as possible because Orianna can best unfold her full damage-potential when she is able to spam her Command: Attack and Command: Dissonance all the time!
