Introduction

Hello all! This is my first Mobafire guide and I have put a lot effort into it. Hopefully it will be of some use to you!
This guide features:

Diana is a mage/assassin champion, who focuses on being up close and personal in melee range, but relying on ability power to provide the extra oomph in her abilities. This guide will focus primarily on playing her in a mid lane scenario as well as solo top lane scenario. If you're looking for a jungle guide, then I encourage you to look towards the many guides that focus on that aspect of her gameplay.

Diana has an extremely high amount of potential with solo top and mid lane due to the amount of burst damage that she can throw out and the fact that she has a high rate of sustainability. Before we delve further into the guide and build that I am providing for you, I want to remind you that this is completely built around my experience with her and my play-style. You are more than welcome to change any part of her build, masteries and runes to further suit your play style and how YOU would like to play her.

Masteries

-Offense-

Mental Force : Grabbing this adds a little bonus ability power to all of Diana's Abilities.
Sorcery: Grabbing this reduces the CD of all of Diana's Abilities, allowing you to cast them more often.
Arcane Knowledge : This will allow your abilities to do more damage to those who decide to counter you by stacking magic resistance.
Havoc : This Mastery increases your Damage dealt. Definitely ideal for Diana.
Blast : Yet another Mastery that provides Bonus Ability Power, providing that extra oomph to Diana's Abilities.
Archmage : Like Blast and Mental Force, this provides additional Ability Power for Diana's skill-set.
Executioner : This will allow you to do more damage as you get into the execute range of an enemy's health, allowing you to easily secure the kill.

-Defense-

Resistance : Provides additional magic resistance, increasing your survivability.
Hardiness : Provides additional armor, increasing your survivability.
Durability : Provides additional health as you level, also increasing survivability and sustainability.
Veteran's Scars : Provides additional health as you level, also increasing survivability and sustainability.

Summoner Spells

Summoner Spells

Ignite: I use Ignite to add on that extra amount of damage needed for a fleeing enemy, great way to secure a kill.
space
Flash: Since Diana is so vulnerable to CC, this provides an extra escape mechanism, as well as a gap closer for initiating fights and catching fleeing enemies.
space
Exhaust: This can be substituted in over Flash to lock down a fleeing enemy, granting you a few additional seconds to shut them out.

Abilities

Diana has a passive ability called Moonsilver Blade. Moonsilver Blade increases grants her increased attack speed and causes every third strike to do bonus magic damage to enemies surrounding the enemy that is struck. This passive has tons of potential when paired with an item such as Nashor's Tooth, granting additional attack speed and allowing you to utilize it's effects on a much more frequent basis.

Her "Q" ability is called Crescent Strike. This ability is a skill-shot type ability that unleashes a bolt of lunar energy, dealing damage as it passes through enemies before exploding. An important detail to note about this ability is that it reveals enemies on the map who are hit with it. This causes it to work amazingly when used for ganking or for providing an escape route should you be overwhelmed. Simply use Crescent Strike on a camp of creepers in the jungle, and pop your Ultimate (R) to leap through the bushes, providing an escape route. This ability also scales quite well with Ability Power and is your bread and butter spell when dealing damage.

Her "W" ability is called Pale Cascade. This ability creates three orbiting spheres that detonate on contact with enemies, dealing damage in an area as it does. It also causes Diana to gain a temporary shield that absorbs damage. If all three spheres happen to detonate before they expire, it completely refreshes the duration and absorb rate of the shield. This ability works well when paired with her E and her R.

Her "E" ability is called Moonfall. This ability creates a Lunar pattern on the ground below her that draws enemies in towards her, slowing them all as it does so. This ability will provide an excellent mechanic in chasing down and/or stopping enemies from escaping you as you attempt to slice them down. I recommend pairing it with her R.

Finally, her "R" ability is called Lunar Rush. This is her ultimate and is a rather interesting ability. With it, she teleports to an enemy and deals magic damage once she reaches them. If the target is afflicted with moonlight (From her Q) then the cooldown of this ability is completely reset, allowing her to use it in succession. This works well when trying to go in for the kill, or for catching up to an escaping enemy. It will be up to you to decide whether to use it to catch someone not afflicted with moonlight, or to wait until you're able to get moonlight on them for the refreshed cooldown effect.

Item Explanation

Items

  • : You want to grab these to add that extra Magic Resistance to improve your survivability and sustainability. If you see your opponent is stacking Magic Resistance, you may substitute Sorcerer's Shoes.
  • Nashor's: This will provide you with additional Attack Speed, allowing you to utilize your passive more often as well as additional Ability Power to improve your damage. Overall a great item for Diana.
  • : This item provides an outrageous amount of Ability Power, allowing your abilities to do a phenomenal amount of damage end-game.
  • : This item provides additional health, ability power and a passive that slows a target's movement speed. Overall just a great item for Diana, as it allows you to close the gap between you and your opponent easier.
  • : WOW! Just an amazing item. Provides additional Ability Power, Survivability and Movement Speed! Also allows you to take advantage of your passive even more!
  • : This item provides additional Ability Power and Attack Damage, boosting not only your Main Abilities, but also your Passive. Also provides a great Passive ability from the item itself.

Farming/Teamfights

Farming

When playing Diana as a solo lane Mid or Top champion, you should focus on getting those "last-hits" on the minions. The items that I have listed above can be quite expensive, so it's important to keep up your farm to ensure that you are able to purchase them. Don't be to hasty to secure a kill either, you should play defensively early-game and only go on the offense once you have secured some additional ability power from a few of the "early" items.

Teamfights

During Teamfights, your job is primarily that of an assassin. You should not be the one that is initiating the fights, but instead the person securing the kills. You should start off with Crescent Blade, apply your Pale Cascade and follow up with Lunar Rush after your Tanky companions have initiated the fights. From there you should follow up with Moonfall to pull all of your enemies in, allowing your companions to focus them all down simultaneously. (Especially if you have Hecarim as an ally.) Lastly, utilize your Crescent Blade/ Lunar Rush combo to chase down and secure any fleeing opponents.

Summary

Summary

Diana overall is a rather fun, yet challenging champion to play. I thoroughly enjoy her and will be updating this guide as my experiences with her continue on down the road. I highly recommend participating in Co-Op or Bot games before taking her straight into a Regular or Ranked Match. She is rather Overpowered as she is, so once she is nerfed, which I expect to happen in the upcoming weeks; I'll be updating this guide.

If you liked this guide, feel free to upvote it! If you do decide to downvote it, please leave me some constructive criticism on why you downvoted it, so that I may have a chance to adjust and possibly improve my guide! You may also inbox me with your skype name if you wish to discuss this guide in further detail! I'm always looking for tips and advice, as well as interested in giving some!

Thanks for reading, and I hope you enjoy playing Diana as much as I do!
