Hello and welcome to my first ever guide on mobafire. Im doing this guide on one of my favorite champion, Shen .
The reason why im doing this guide is because one day i just got bored of playing the usual tank role and so i decided to think of my own guide.
This is not a pure tank build, more of a hybrid between tank and AP.
I know that there are many AP Shen builds out there but i just want to share my own build with all of you.
I hope you enjoy this build and have fun with it! :)
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration
Greater Seal of Scaling Ability Power
Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power
Greater Quintessence of Ability Power
Greater Quintessence of Health
Greater Mark of Magic Penetration - Since you are building some AP, these runes come in handy. And if you combine them with your Sorcerer's Shoes you get more magic penetration, which is really nice.
Greater Seal of Scaling Ability Power - Just for some more AP to do more damage with your ablilites.
Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power - Really nice to have because they give you even more AP, that means that you can do even more damage!
Greater Quintessence of Ability Power - More AP, more damage.
Greater Quintessence of Health - I would only take one of this just because you dont have the normal tank Shen health at the start, so this quint helps out alot.
You could also swap the Greater Seal of Scaling Ability Power for Greater Seal of Vitality for some extra health or Greater Glyph of Scaling Ability Power for Greater Glyph of Magic Resist if you decide to go for some extra magic resist for more tankieness.
It all depends on what you like.
Mental Force - Gives more AP, thus more damage with your abilities.
Sorcery - The extra CDR helps you use your abilites more often.
Arcane Knowledge - A pretty nice magic penetration boost, works well with your Sorcerer's Shoes and your Greater Mark of Magic Penetration .
Blast - Even more AP!
Archmage - ^
Executioner - A very nice mastery, it could be a huge difference maker when an enemy is low on health.
Havoc - The extra damage is very nice to have because you deal more damage with yuor abilities.
Resistance - The magic resist is very good to have when going up against casters.
Hardiness - The armor is pretty useful, blocks some damage from enemies, not much but still helps.
Durability - More health, more survivability.
Veteran's Scars - ^
Pros / Cons
+ Your Feint will absorb more damage than the regular tank Shen .
+ Your Stand United will also absorb way more damage than the regular tank Shen .
+ You deal alot more damage with your ablilites than the normal tank Shen .
+ You still have a decent amount of health and survivability.
- You dont have as much health as the normal tank Shen .
- You will die alot faster than the normal tank Shen .
- Pretty expensive build.
- You will eventually fall off with damage lategame.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Will of the Ancients
Start off with 3 Health Potion and Boots of Speed just because you need the extra mobility. You could also switch out to Ruby Crystal to build to your Warmog's Armor faster, but i prefer the boots.
You should lane until you can afford Giant's Belt and if you are doing good then pick up Sorcerer's Shoes as well because the magic penetration is quite lethal early on in the game.
Now farm until you can afford your Warmog's Armor ,this should give you a very nice health advantage over your teammates and enemies.
After you have your Warmog's Armor start building in to Rabadon's Deathcap ,its pretty expensive so it might take you some time, but the AP you get is totally worth the wait.
After you have your Rabadon's Deathcap start to build for Randuin's Omen ,it gives you some nice health and armor and it has a very good active that could save you and your teammates or slow the enemies so they wouldnt escape.
Now when you have Randuin's Omen you should build Rylai's Crystal Scepter next. It gives a good amount pf HP and AP, plus it slows down the enemies you hit with your abilities, very good for chasing or even escaping.
Now you start building your final item, Will of the Ancients , it gives you some AP and spellvamp and the passive is also benefiting your team aswell, a decent item to have.
Other items you might want to switch out
This is a good item to swap out with Randuin's Omen if you are facing a heavy caster team, you dont really need the armor from Randuin's Omen since the enemies deal magical damage and the magic resist from Force of Nature is really good, it gives you some nice health regen too.
Another good item to swap out, this time with Will of the Ancients because Abyssal Scepter has more AP and it gives a nice magic resist boost aswell and the passive benefits the whole team. Again, i would take Abyssal Scepter if i would have a caster heavy team.
This is a item you should take only if you are facing alot of AD champions. You will lose some AP but will gain some HP back, the CDR is pretty good aswell. The passive again, benefits your entire team.
You could swap these boots with Sorcerer's Shoes for extra magic resist and tenacity, you will lose the magic penetration though. I would get these if im up against a heavy caster team.
Another good choice of boots. It gives you a little armor and some damage reduce. I would get these boots if im up against a heavy AD team.
The CDR is pretty nice so you could spam you abilities more often but make sure you build some more CDR items then aswell or else the boots are going to be pretty useless.
This is a very good counter to AD champions, make sure to always pick this up when facing alot of AD champions (replace it with Randuin's Omen ) . It gives very good armor and the passive is amazing.
Max this first, its you main harrass tool and it does the most damage out of all your abilites.
This is your second ability you should max, it doesnt absorb much damage at the start but mid to lategame it abosrbs alot and it could be a life saver.
This is just your escape tool, or catching up to enemies, it doesnt do much damage also, so max this last.
Like all ultimates take this whenever you can, this ultimate can be a huge game changer. And it can save your teammates from death because of the massive damage it can absorb. It goes up to 1400+ damage lategame, but like Feint it wont absorb much damage at the start.
Summoner Spells you could take
A very good spell to finish off enemies with, i always take this spell because i cant stand luckers who get away with 10HP, so i just pop this and it takes care of them.
Another good spell. This could save you life when your Shadow Dash is on cooldown, i usually take this as my second spell.
A decent choice, could be used for a nice bait or to help out a teammate if their low.
A very good spell to use in order to catch up to an enemy, or use it to slow an enemy down so you wont get killed.
This is what i would choose if i had no Flash or Ignite alongside with Heal or Exhaust a pretty good get away and cathing up spell.
A good spell if your turret is getting under attacked and you need to get there fast. Or if you need to push fast.
The other spells that i didint mention i dont recommend using.
When in a teamfight you are still in a tank role, you just do some extra damage with your abilites. Try to charge in with Shadow Dash and taunt as many enemies as you can, use Feint for the extra protection , your team should follow behind you and the enemies will fall in no time.
I hope you enjoyed my first guide, feel free to tell your opinons about this guide aswell. I know this isnt much but thats the best i could do :) .
Have fun using this guide, and i hope you enjoyed it!
