INTRODUCTION
lol, a Garen mid GG, is what I heard from that Katarina my first time Garen mid. I ended up surprised as i smashed her and left her feeling embarrassed that she just lost to a Garen mid. From that day i have experimented many times along with my fellow friends, Bongking420x, THEmAXINATOR and Slivemguyvee. I have now found the perfect build and can assure you that you will win every time.
This is just a simple guide explaining my choices for items/masteries etc. and giving you some tips, all you need to know to win as Garen mid is below.
Skill Sequence
When maxed, your E is basically wukongs ult, it does tonnes of damage over 3 seconds and destroys enemies. You also need to reduce the cooldown as fast as possible. This is why we max your E first, as it scales with AD it does too much damage to the squishy mid laners. Then max your Q to lengthen the silence and give some increase damage. Maxing your Ultimate is pretty self explainitory, you want to put a point into it whenever possible. Your W will be maxed last as it is a defensive ability and is not nessessary throughout laning phase.
Items
Thornmail/Sunfire Cape
Sunfire cape makes you a tank with addition of the passive which helps a bit with farming giving you more AoE. Thornmail is a good item for in lane with an Ad mid laner, gives you a great advantage.
Boots of swiftness
A must have with garen, allowing you to deal max damage with your E. upgrade to Enchancement- Furor to keep up with your opponent after using your Q
Infinity Edge
This is your main source of damage. It will give you a critical strike which can be triggered while using your E for massive damage.
Spirit Visage
Gives you magic resistance and the unique passive increases your passives healing ability dramatically making sure you have mass regen on health.
Black Cleaver
Gives more damage, C/D reduction and armour penetration. along with a bit more health this item works well late game
Warmogs Armor
More health for garen, making very hard to kill late game. The passive of this item yet again increases Garen's already OP life regen
Pros / Cons
PROS
Very Tanky
Hard for people to poke him down
People in ranked will think he is top and try counter pick
No real counters, just a skill match-up
CONS
Ranged champs are harder to reach/poke
There is only one Con that i can think about, he is just that good all 'round
Combos
Kill
Its quite simple, lead with your Q to silence, then E and W to deal a lot of damage, if they are then a potential kill, ignite then follow up with your ultimate, use your Q and or flash to dis-engage.
POKE
Poking in lane is quite simple, Q and E combo works great with trades, plus your passive will heal you afterwards giving you the advantage. Try poke as often as you can as Garen is a no cost champ
Farming
If you are focusing on farming, Thornmail can be swapped with Sunfire Cape to give extra AoE with your E. Garen quite often out-farms every champ in the game.
Summary
If you follow this build you are almost a Garen-teed win, haha im so funny.... Garen is very strong in mid lane believe it or not, and will win most match ups, just be careful of early ganks from the opposing team, once u get 1 or 2 kills on the mid laner, nothing can stop you. I strongly encourage you going garen mid, its quite fun even if you do manage to lose
