Intro

This is my first build. I've been playing Mord as my main champ for almost a year now and love how he plays. He's the only champ that I've ever played and gotten a pentakill. There's something about him and his skins that just scare the enemy.

Why Mord Can be a Carry

After looking up the definition of "Carry" through numerous forums and chat rooms I came to realize that if you play this kind of build right and you have a well built team Mord is a great champ for pushing, keeping in the big team fights, and even getting pentakills. He does lack CC and escape mechanisms but the point of Mord is to stay in the fray until it is done. Also your Exhaust spell and Hextech Gunblade's active give you slows to chase down champs or get away.

Story

Story

During the most recent winter solstice - when no other night during the year is longer - a being like no other emerged from the forgotten alleyways of Noxus. Standing eight feet tall, and concealed within a razor-sharp armored shell, he came to be known only as Mordekaiser. The nature of what lies beneath his metallic carapace is a popular subject of speculation. Many allege that he is a mortal man with a heart that has hardened to iron. Others insist that he is a dark specimen of the undead. But there are some who whisper warnings that he is merely a foreshadowing of something terrible and unprecedented yet to come. Despite the public conjecture and curiosity, none have discovered what lies beneath his alloyed exterior. What is known is this: Mordekaiser arrived unannounced at the Institute one day and, with a rasp that crept ice up the spines of all within earshot, requested to join the League of Legends.

Upon glimpsing his fearful visage, most keep their distance, fortunately unaware that his touch bears a sinister scourge. Those who stumble within his grasp fall victim to incurable maladies. In fact, Mordekaiser seems mystically attuned to sickness, as if it feeds and comprises part of his chilling essence. he now stalks the slums of Noxus, drawn to the plague-ridden and diseased. However, there is something in his clever tactics, something in his noble stance, and something in the tone of his unearthly commands that has led many to believe that Mordekaiser is more than just a foot soldier. Some see the distinguishing characteristics of a general. While many have learned to accept the evidence of this unsettling possibility, a lingering questions keeps them wary at the witching hour: If Mordekaiser is a general, what nightmarish legion lurks at his command?

"The common perception is that the encompassing armor protects him, I fear that - for the fragile time being - it actually protects us." - Rozuel Fecirem, Arch Adjudicator, noted in Mordekaiser's eligibility evalution

Runes

Simply put, my build is mostly AP based with a decent bit of survivability.

As for the AP casting portion we grab flat mag. pen. marks as well as flat AP glyphs.

When it came down to seals I grabbed flat CDR (cooldown reduction) as well as one of my quintessences with CDR. I also grabbed a flat HP quintessence to help out especially in early game as well as a quintessence in move speed. Some find that Mord can drag around the field so a little speed never hurt.

Masteries

Again there isn't too much to explain. In the offense tree we build towards AP, ability CDR, and spell penetration. You'll notice I thew a point into Cripple, magnifying the effect of my exhaust spell, I'll explain in the tactics.

In the utility tree we build it while avoiding the mana based masteries. Filling out Utility Mastery is a lot of help. People overlook Mord getting the blue buff, but it is great for making your abilities very spamable. This will allow him to keep on the offense, harassing enemy champs and also keeping his shield up. You'll notice I put a point into Haste even though I don't use the Ghost spell. This is because I had to use all 21 to get the final point in Presence of the Master. Any masteries to fill out that last remaining point are useless whether they're adding on to a mastery you aren't using or mana based perks.

Items and Strategy

Okay, here's the important part for

Starting off your game you want to play conservatively because you'll whittle down your own health just casting all willy nilly. Go for the First Blood if you can using both your exhaust and ignite on the champ that you and your partner agree on. Mord needs to feed a lot so you better start early.

When the game starts buy your Doran's Shield and throw your first ability point into Siphon of Destruction. This is by far Mord's best moves of his three standard ones. It builds his shield better than any other when used on an entire minion wave.

You want to teleport back to base after you've farmed enough for Hextech Revolver which runs you 1200g. This is a great starting item because not only does it boost your abilities with AP it also pretty much negates the ability costs with the spellvamp component.

Continue farming and killing (killing is what Mord was built for) until you have another 1100g for some Sorcerer's Shoes. These are great with the movespeed but especially by providing you with a healthy bit o' Magic Penetration.

Next you want to build Sheen as a precursor for Lich Bane. These will not only give you a nice chunk of AP but also greatly boost the damage output of Mace of Spades.

Once you've learned all of your abilities and followed the item build up to Hextech Gunblade you are a master of burst damage. When going into a gank or surprise attack from the jungle/bushes it's best to have all your abilities, summoner spells, and Hextech Gunblade's active ready to go. The best order of attack goes as such.

Exhaust >> Siphon of Destruction >> Creeping Death as you run to hit them with a >> Mace of Spades >> Siphon of Destruction on cooldown >> and if necessary to finish them off >> Ignite >> [Children of the Grave]]. Note: you always use Ignite before Children of the Grave because it has a much smaller casting range.

The reason for grabbing the Cripple mastery to improve Exhaust is that it lessen's the afflicted champions armor and mag. res. and also increases the effect time slightly.

Another important note is to always make use of Hextech Gunblade's awesome active. After Exhaust's slow wears off hit them with Hextech Gunblade's slow. It also deals them a decent amount of damage. This is also a great item for fights because of a 60 sec. cooldown allowing it to be used once in almost every teamfight.

Hextech Gunblade is an awesome item for Mord because it gives him a lot of AP and AD and also provides lifesteal and spellvamp; everything Mordekaiser needs to harass, deal a lot of damage, keep his shield up, and also keep up his health.

A simple trick that I came up with over time to make using Hextech Gunblade's active a lot easier was by using the key binding and setting the alternate to an extra button I have on my mouse. While using other mice I felt at a loss because I had to press the number button correlating to the Hextech Gunblade.

************Today in the my match before making the build I thought of simply setting the gunblade item slot to the "t" button on the keyboard. It is right next to all your abilities (QWER) and between the camera lock "Y". "T" is unused and makes the active like a fifth ability.

So in game, press escape >> key bindings >> and go down to the use item and set it to t.

************Another key binding trick I use which comes in handy is setting self cast W ability (second) to "space bar". That way you don't have to press "W" and then select yourself. Just press space bar for instant armor + mag. res.

From here on in the item build you get some survivability by getting HP and Armor as well as a nice little AoE from Sunfire Aegis which combos nicely with your Creeping Death.

Some people have mentioned how Sunfire Aegis was nerfed in the recent patch and that there are better defensive items for Mord. So after careful consideration I decided that considering everybody targets Mord after he starts doing well a great item would be Guardian Angel

Another great item for Mordekaiser is Rylai's Chrystal Scepter. This gives you AP, HP, and a nice slow to chase down enemies.

If you even get to this far in farming the next item you should grab is Rabadon's Deathcap which packs an amazing punch onto your abilities. At this point Children of the Grave can do over 50% HP damage to enemy champs transferring it all to you.

The last item is another Hextech Gunblade which will give you more vamp/steal and AD/AP beefing you up for these super late game team battles. Note: I understand quite well that the active ability is unique and so stacking Hextech Gunblade doesn't help that way but the pure boost in AD/AP steal/vamp is more than enough to warrant this to fill your sixth item slot. If you have an issue with this feel free to amend the guide to however you like to use Mord.

Edit: After the last patch a great new item came into play for Mord called Moonflair Spellblade. It gives a nice 50 AP while also giving Mord his well needed 25 Tenacity. This should remove most people's idea of the necessity of Mercury's Treads

Giving Credit Where It's Due

I won't lie, the beginning ideas for this build came from another Mord build guide that I've been using for a long time and quite successfully. It was inspired by the third build on his page here TheUn4givenRage's mord build here....
