Introduction
PROS:
- Deals a percentage of health with AoE
- Pretty easy combo to learn
- Ult has built in suppress
- Comes with Area of Effect, Damage over Time, and a Silence
- Can become a TANK MELTER
CONS:
- Kinda squishy
- Hard to completely master combo
- Needs a subpar team composition AT LEAST
- Lots of purple
Recommended Runes:
Mark of Magic Penetration: These are exceptional throughout most of the game phases. I generally use this because I find that even though you could get some extra ability power, there's not as many magic penetration items in the store. This compensates for that.
Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist: Most people throw in mana regen and cooldown reduction here, but seeing as we're going mid, we're gonna need some extra defense so other AP champs don't completely dominate us. This helps out a lot in the mid lane, especially when other champs come to gank us.
Seal of Scaling Mana Regen: This work extremely well late game; they give you a boost of mana regen so that you can cast more spells more often, which is what you want to do. Other than that they're pretty self-explanatory; more mana regen=more spells cast.
Quintessence of Ability Power: I only use one of these because while it gives you a big boost in AP, I can get to about 450 without them, so I can use different quintessences that are more suited to quick casting.
Quintessence of Cooldown Reduction: These are your number one ticket items! These quintessences help you cast spells quicker so you can get more damage with them. Reduced Cooldowns=More Spells Cast=More Damage Done

Go with the old 21/0/9 trick. This way you get the most ability power/magic penetration you can out of offense, and the most mana/mana regen out of utility. I wouldn't even bother touching defense because there isn't any need to. You shouldn't be at the front, nor should you be taking damage. You could take a point out of spellsword if yuo wanted and put it into Havoc, that's a possible substitution if you know you aren't going to be able to get into range with your auto-attacks.
