Introduction
PSA: Guide is WIP while i'm at work (23/2/12)
Dr. Mundo used to be my all time favourite champion levelling up a long time ago but then for some reason I stopped playing him to play other champions, and then after a while I had it in my mind that he was bad. Ever since they buffed him recently in a patch it flared my desires for more MUNDOMANIA so here it is, my guide to the beast that is
Dr. Mundo
Pros / Cons
Pro's:
-Being
Dr. Mundo
-One of the fast if not fastest junglers in the game.
-Pretty much 2 shot's the buffs without a
Wriggle's Lantern.
-Amazing brawler early with
Masochism, turns into an unstoppable force 1v1 once he's level 6.
-Ganks are so rediculous, just run down the lane and pop
Ghost/
Sadism huehue.
-In teamfights you stick on the enemy AD/AP like superglue or peel people from your AD/AP carries with ease.
-Solo dragon NP if you feel like taking the risk.
-Easy to get back in the game if you get pooped on early,
Dr. Mundo farms so well.
Cons:
Ignite
Ignite and
Ignite, you really need a
Quicksilver Sash to survive.
Not as OP if you don't have a skin,
Dr. Mundo's skins increase your skill by 50% and weakens the enemy team
Runes
Dr. Mundo is
Dr. Mundo so he can use any mix of runes and still jungle faster than any other champion in the game(in my opinion), although
Greater Seal of Resilience is mandatory.
I usually run
Greater Mark of Desolation/
Greater Seal of Resilience/
Greater Glyph of Alacrity/
Greater Quintessence of Transmutation
Masteries
Offense:
Summoner's Wrath - Better than a point in
Butcher since it improves
Ghost
Brute Force -
Burning Agony has .2 AP ratio so
Mental Force is useless, and
Butcher doesn't do any damage to Champions.
Alacrity - Pre-req, the 4% AS is good on it's own regardless
Weapon Expertise - Since you'll be doing a lot of melee AD damage with
Masochism, this is BiS
Defence:
Hardiness - Helps jungling the first few levels and AP's generally don't do much damage really early on.
Tough Skin - Pre-req, allows you to be much higher in the jungle on your first clear
Resistance - Optional
Vigor - Optional
Bladed Armor - Even though
Dr. Mundo doesn't need any more jungle speed it's BiS for 1 point
Indomitable - BiS
Utility:
Good Hands - BiS
Improved Recall - Nothing else to get since you don't use mana or
Flash
Swiftness - BiS,
Dr. Mundo 2 shots every camp, movement is so good
Runic Affinity - BiS
I actually started using these masteries not long ago, credit to Rincent on Solomid.net, before that I was running the standard 0/21/9 build, don't get me wrong it's good but nothing is more fun than chasing people with more movement speed than a
Shyvana on crack.
Items
Quicksilver Sash - This is basically a MUST buy if people are actually smart and
Ignite you, or if they have 3x
Ignite on a team. This item doesn't come under Early, Mid or Late because it's VERY situational.
EARLY GAME ITEMS:
Cloth Armor start vs
Doran's Shield - I know some people like going the
Doran's Shield start but I pretty much always go
Cloth Armor because I can get
Ninja Tabi at first back, I hardly ever buy any other boots because
Dr. Mundo is so OP he doesn't need some silly CC reduction boots... MUNDO THINK MERCURY BRITTLE.
Doran's Shield - These are AMAZING items for your early game, they give
Dr. Mundo all he wants for so cheap... MUNDO SAYS DORAN IS GUD... *slurp*
Heart of Gold - I usually buy this after the first or second
Doran's Shield depending on how well I'm doing, for example if I get a double kill and I have the gold, I buy that before
Doran's Shield
MID GAME ITEMS:
Locket of the Iron Solari - Built from
Heart of Gold, not as good as
Randuin's Omen in a lot of cases but it's something to think about, it's more of a mid-game item because the shield doesn't do anything late-game.
Spirit Visage - So dumb on
Dr. Mundo, you'll probably see why when you mouseover it, it also gives you a bit of MR which you won't have much of yet.
Sadism OP PLZ NERF.
Aegis of the Legion - Communicate with your team to see who's getting what, if you can build this then build it relatively early.
Wit's End - Absolutely amazing, it synergises with your
Masochism and also gives you MR.. OP.
MID-LATE GAME ITEMS:
Zeke's Herald - I like the look of this item, solid if you have something like a
Tryndamere top or anyone who is building more of an offensive way.
Force of Nature vs
Banshee's Veil - Always
Force of Nature in my opinion, the mana is a wasted stat plus the regen has synergy with
Spirit Visage, plus the benefit of added MR and Mobility.
Warmog's Armor - Pretty much a staple health item, nothing more to say.
Sunfire Cape - I have always had mixed feelings about this, I just don't feel it does enough to be fully viable in a teamfight,
Warmog's Armor has 820 more HP, but
Sunfire Cape has the benefit of Armor and a bit of AoE damage, it feels like you'd be less tanky because it won't purely be AD damage you are taking, and
Dr. Mundo does not need any extra pushing power,
Burning Agony is all he needs.
Atma's Impaler - A really good item because you're able to stick on people very easily which makes use of your
Masochism, plus it's hilarious having around 300 AD when you're SO tanky.
Randuin's Omen - Built from
Heart of Gold, amazing item is all I have to say for this.
EXAMPLE 6 ITEM BUILDS
Quicksilver Sash - I won't list it in these example builds, it's pretty situational in solo queue and it's never bought in a certain place
Against stacked AP -
Ninja Tabi -
Spirit Visage -
Wit's End -
Warmog's Armor -
Force of Nature -
Atma's Impaler
Against stacked AD -
Ninja Tabi -
Spirit Visage -
Warmog's Armor -
Atma's Impaler -
Randuin's Omen -
Warmog's Armor/
Wit's End
Against mixed team -
Ninja Tabi -
Spirit Visage -
Warmog's Armor -
Wit's End/
Atma's Impaler/
Force of Nature/
Randuin's Omen (Pick 3, remember to mix MR and Armor)
Supporty -
Ninja Tabi -
Aegis of the Legion -
Wit's End -
Locket of the Iron Solari/
Randuin's Omen -
Frozen Mallet -
Atma's Impaler//
Zeke's Herald
AD huehue build -
Berserker's Greaves -
Wit's End -
Frozen Mallet -
Infinity Edge -
Last Whisper -
Atma's Impaler/
Zeke's Herald/
Phantom Dancer
Remember these are NOT staple builds, you will want to build something earlier and build something later depending on how the game is going, just be smart in your choices
Oracle's
Oracle's Elixir is one of the most valuable items in the game.
Pro's:
-Clears vision
-Map control
-Forces lanes to play passive
-Easily gankable lanes
-Allows your support to buy items faster
Con's:
-A little expensive
-Hurts a lot if you lose it early
-Your teamfight is a slight bit weaker, but denying vision is OP.
Example of bad
Oracle's Elixir usage:
In one game I bought
Oracle's Elixir then headed bot to clear wards, but then I saw the enemy AD wasn't backing off as much as you should against
Dr. Mundo so I
Ghost'ed in and dived with my bot lane for a double kill, but it wasn't as worth it as you might think because I lost a killing spree and
Oracle's Elixir (still went on to win 10/1/9 but that's not the point).
Warding
Usage of
Sight Ward's:
At my first back i try to buy atleast 2
Sight Ward's and more throughout the game, the only lane i usually help ward early on is mid. I put the wards at the enemy wraiths no matter if I'm on Purple side or Blue, and i try and get the mid laner to ward the other side. With my spare wards i usually throw them around the enemy buffs so there's so there's more vision, it also helps if you don't know the exact timers of the buffs and it's far easier to steal when you see them doing blue/red.
Pro's
Vision
Map control
Helps lanes trumendously that don't ward
Con's
None, they cost 75g each and provide you with so much. BUY THEM.
Jungling
Edit 24/02/12 - I'll upload some pictures for the routes when i'm home from work, thanks to 're the god2' for the suggestion!
There's a couple of ways you can jungle.
1. Wolves > Blue > Steal enemy Red > Gank top > Wolves > Wraiths > Red > Golems > Back. (If there's no
Shyvana or team that is starting red this is the best option)
From there I decide in which area of the map I want to be in, if I wasted a
Flash top and it would be an easy gank I go Wolves > their Wraiths > Top (depending if the enemy top has a
Sight Ward), otherwise i just go Wolves > straight top. Wraiths/Golems depending if I want to gank Mid or Bot.
2. Standard Wolves > Blue route, back then decide which lane you feel needs the most help/easy gank. (of course you can gank while doing your first clear if you feel you can waste something, but usually it's not that worth it, you just make them lose a couple of creeps while you lose valuable
Dr. Mundo'ing time)
From there on out just use common sense and farmgonkfarmgonk
Summary
MUNDO IS MUNDO, WHY WOULD YOU NOT WANT TO PLAY HIM? DON'T MAKE MUNDO ANGRY
DIVE PEOPLE AND TAKE 15 TOWER HITS BECAUSE YOU ARE MUNDO AND DON'T CARE FOR NO SILLY TOWERS, THEY ARE ONLY THERE FOR GOLD REMEMBER
HIS MOVEMENT SPEED IS HILARIOUS WHEN YOU POP GHOST AND ULT
RUNS AROUND WITH 300 AD WITH JUST HEALTH ITEMS, OH MY GAWD MANG
EVEN IF THEY SEE YOU COMING IN FOR A GANK YOU JUST DON'T GIVE A **** AND POP
Ghost,
Burning Agony AND SPAM
Infected Cleaver'S +
Masochism UNTIL THEY DIE, EVEN IF YOU HAVE TO TOWER DIVE, POP
Sadism AND SURVIVE FOREVER LOL
MUNDO'S VOICE CLIPS ARE AMAZING
