Lore

During the winter solstice, on the darkest day of the year, a being like no other emerged from the forgotten alleyways of Noxus. Standing eight feet tall, and concealed within a razor-sharp armored shell, he came to be known only as Mordekaiser. The nature of what lies beneath his carbonized carapace is a popular subject of speculation. Many allege that he is a mortal man with a heart that has hardened to iron. Others insist that he is a dark specimen of the undead. But there are some who whisper warnings that he is merely a foreshadowing of something terrible and unprecedented yet to come. Despite the public conjecture and curiosity, none have discovered what lies beneath his alloyed exterior. What is known is this: Mordekaiser arrived unannounced at the Institute one day and, with a rasp that crept ice up the spines of all within earshot, requested to join the League of Legends. Upon glimpsing his fearful visage, most keep their distance, fortunately unaware that his touch bears a sinister scourge. Those who stumble within his grasp fall victim to incurable maladies. In fact, Mordekaiser seems mystically attuned to sickness, as if it feeds and comprises part of his chilling essence. He now stalks the slums of Noxus, drawn to the plague-ridden and diseased. However, there is something in his clever tactics, something in his noble stance, something in the tone of his unearthly commands that has led many to believe that Mordekaiser is more than just a foot soldier. Some see the distinguishing characteristics of a general. While many have learned to accept the evidence of this unsettling possibility, a lingering question keeps them wary at the witching hour: If Mordekaiser is a general, what nightmarish legion lurks at his command? "The common perception is that the encompassing armor protects him, I fear that -- for the fragile time being -- it actually protects us.

Who Is the "Master of Metal"?

Mordekaiser fits into 3 catagories
  • Farmer
  • DPS'er
  • Team Player

Each category has different strengths and weaknesses and they are all based upon you and your play style. Personally I believe that next to singed, Morde could be the best solo top/ farmer in the whole game. Is farming and killing potential is absolutely insane. Check him out, you'll know what i'm talking about.

Runes

Here is where I switch it up a little...

Greater Mark of Magic Penetration are the only reds I could ever think of that are even viable on an AP caster or tanky mage.

Greater Seal of Vitality allows me to get slightly beefy and scale very well health wise. I love these runes, and I highly recommend that you at least try them before going to HP/5 or even flat AP. Try these and you will be hooked. At 18 you will have 174.96 extra hp... try it, plus throughout the game you will notice the impact that 170ish hp has.

Greater Glyph of Cooldown Reduction are nice for a shortened ultimate cooldown along with shield and Q cooldown. E isnt too bad of a cooldown but it bumps it down a tad when a full page is made. I would grab AP blues for this 100% but its a matter of preference, I am expending IP now to test it out, because mordes cooldowns arent anything to sweat about.

Greater Quintessence of Ability Power You have 36 ap starting off when you have your Amplifying tome. Just listen to me when I say that 36 ap is better that 20 ap with 78 bonus hp. Health quints are not worth it (In most situations) on this man. Power in AP numbers is where it is at.

Masteries

I run a generic manaless 9/0/21 on mordekaiser. I suppose you could grab the ghost mastery instead of the flash one, but thats your decision.

Not much to say here, and I could go into full detail about how everything benefits you, but by now you realize that masteries are EZ to learn what does what and why.

Might as well do a rundown...

Offense:
0.6 Ap per champion level (10.8 @18)
2% Crit chance (Dont ever really benefit from this... maybe might crit once or twice if you are lucky :3)
3% Cooldown Reduction
15% Magic Penetration

Utility:
4% Health and Mana regeneration
10% Reduced death time
5% Experience Increase
1 gold per 10
Increases duration of Neutal buffs by 30%
3% Movement speed increase
15 sec. flash cooldown
6% cooldown reduction (9% cooldown reduction after masteries are all said and done)
15% reduced time on summoner skills

Summoner Spells

I grab Flash on every champion because thats just my super special escape option, and I grab Ignite because paired with ultimate and an E last hit, it can net you a very very sexy first blood (Mind you I allways get first blood).

Ghost - It can be viable on him, but I never seem to stray toward ghost. If I wanna move like a truck ill get faster boots or a movement speed item... or

Exhaust - This summoner is OP. I will not lie, this spell is even more of a ****block than flash. I hate this skill with a passion, and if I know im laning against a high DPS comp or a strong AD carry ill take this over ignite.

Skill Sequence

Iron Man

20 / 25 / 30% of the damage dealt from abilities is converted into a temporary shield, absorbing incoming damage. Minimum shield strength is 120 health, and the maximum is 630 health. The shield decays by 3% per second.

This spell alone along with children of the grave is what sets Mordekaiser apart from other champtions. This is your insurance policy for that first blood attempt, or getting away from a gank.

Mace of Spades

On next hit, Mordekaiser swings his mace with such force that it echoes out, striking up to 3 additional nearby targets, dealing his attack damage plus 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 bonus damage. If the target is alone, the bonus damage is doubled.

This spell is like the bread and butter of your burst damage. THIS HURTS ALOT paired along with Lich Bane. You only need one point in this at level 4 because it is that high of a burst spell, and then that allows you to get your AOE farming abilities. You can use this to farm, but its not like you will need this too often. I just roll with it because its a simple high damage spell.

Creeping Death

Unleashes a protective cloud of metal shards to surround an ally, increasing their armor and magic resistance by 10 / 15 / 20 / 25 / 30 and dealing 20 / 35 / 50 / 65 / 80 (+15% of ability power) damage per second to enemies in the cloud for 6 seconds.

This spell allows you to farm to your hearts content, and it also charges up your spell insanely fast. Use this spell primarily for farming and getting in peoples faces. The armor and MR boost is nice, but you should not rely your life on that armor, simply because you are draining your HP to use it.

Siphon of Destruction

Mordekaiser damages enemies in a cone in front of him, dealing 65 / 110 / 155 / 200 / 245 (+40% of ability power) magic damage.

For each unit hit, Mordekaiser's shield absorbs an additional 6 / 9 / 12 / 15 / 18 health.

Farm. Simply put. This is also your only "ranged" spell in your kit besides your ulti. You must use this spell to grab your farm and harass. I like to last hit minions while harassing people through the minions with this spell.

Children of The Grave

Curses an enemy champion for 8 seconds, stealing 3 / 3.5 / 4% life per second, plus an additional 0.1% per 50 AP.

If the target dies while under the effect of the curse, their soul is enslaved and will follow Mordekaiser for 30 seconds. During this time, Mordekaiser gains 25% of their ability power, and attack damage. The spirit gains 65 / 75 / 85% + (+100% of ability power) of Mordekaiser's adjusted damage, ability power, and 50% + (+100% of ability power) of Mordekaiser's health.

Pets can be controlled by holding the alt key and using the right mouse button.

I like to grab my E first for the damage and farming capabilities. I also grab my shield to farm, and roughly every game I out farm my enemy laning partner by almost double his farm. To do this you neeeeeeed your hextech revolver as soon as possible. You only need to click q once fool, because it has enough damage for laning phase and you really wont be using it unless there is a fight or you are hardcore farming. Remember, you must farm because this build is very very expensive. FARM! FARM WITH YOUR HEARTS CONTENT!

Items

My Build (Reconsidered and taking suggestions)

Sorcerer's Shoes: More damage from all of your spells because of that spell penetration.

Force of Nature: Amazing MR item for mordekaiser and the health regen allows for him to use his skills more freely. The movement speed is a nice touch too.

Hextech Gunblade: The spell vamp is way too good to pass up providing you with sustainability and a nice active that slows people :)

Rylai's Crystal Scepter: Allows for you to chase your enemy's down and keep them at bay from running into the fray of your team wreaking havoc. Get this if you need the CC because your team has none.

Lich Bane: Press q... 1k damage. Yeah you are pretty much required to run this item on morde for that one simple reason, its just way too good to pass up.

Zhonya's Hourglass You gain alot of AP benefiting to your Lich bane damage, plus you get a sweet activate which renders you invulnerable if you are getting focused in a fight.

Optional Items:

Void Staff: Pick this up if you really are getting countered hard by MR.

Thornmail: This will destroy pretty much any AD carry if you arent watching their health.

Guardian Angel: This items allows you to turn fights in your favor in most cases. People wont want to focus you because you'll just come back, but they cant ignore you because you do so much. Buy this if you are getting focused hard.

Farming your ass off

Your farm is dependant for the outcome of your games. If you farm like dodo and do not know how to last hit I recommend this guide for any of you that wish to get better and freaking not push lanes and get ganked like a puto (AndyLeeee).

Here's a video for you explaining last hitting with auto attacks and spells. Also a small indepth section of zoning and how to zone.

Use your spells to last hit primarily, and melee whatever is left (Nothing should be left).

Use these numbers to see if you are on track

5:00 : 35-40
10:00 : 50-70
15:00 :110-120
20:00 : 170+

(These are minimal numbers for me and my play style, yours might be different so try to find out what a good average is for you and attempt to get it or even better it)

If you are not on track, try to focus on perfecting your last hits and maximizing your farm. You can mostly maximize your farm by simply wiping out wolves and wraiths every time your jungle is busy with other things and your lane is not getting pushed.

This build is very expensive and requires about 17k gold. Farm as much as possible so you do not delay your build, I cannot stress this enough.

Team Work

I primarily focus on the squishier targets, or the highest threat first. I love to abuse my ability to use an enemys strength against their own team by ulting the strongest auto attacker out of the group if it is possible. Eliminating that one damage dealer is a huge slap in the face, and it will lead you on your path to kills and a nice clean win.

I like to stay in front to protect my AD/AP Carries, I also generally peel off damage dealers from my teammates. If you know killing or protecting someone will turn the tides of a battle, do it.

Summary

Despite all of the cons of Morde, he has become a very amazing and powerful champion that I have been able to add to my arsenal of... winning champs.

Please rate and add a comment below so I can spot your feedback and better this guide and future guides.

I had alot of fun writing my first guide, and I hope you have fun reading it and destroying face with Morde. Now I am tired and I will go to sleep... Happy hunting

Love,
