Welcome on my first guide. After I was very unsatisfied with Poppys recommended items I was looking for some guides here. The guides here were not really my flavour too, I mixed some possibilites es tried it ingame. And I have to say that this was just my taste so I started a guide to share my combinations and hope for some Improvements (what i could describe better or what is missing e.t.c).
English is not my native language, but I tried my best and hope you can understand my descriptions.

Pro's and con's

Everything/everyone have/has them.


    Slow beginning
    The need of at least some good teammates
    (those who doesn't like assists, with this guide you get some.)
    (You need reaction time)

    Is fast
    Does extreme (crit) damage
    Is very hard to kill
    Kills minions mostly with one hit
    With a good team, tanks can be killed very easy
    A lot of trap possibilities
    More Assists than kills (it's 6/4)

Explanation :

I push every ad to kritz, so i tried it with Poppy and I was statisfied.

It is a nice push for the attack speed. This will push the speedrate

The masteries are very aggresive. The aim : kill and destroy.

The 22 in Offense are for the damage, the little extras to kill the enemies as fast as possible, with high damage as possible. And even it's a little bonus, to finish turrets and minions faster.

The 0 in defense are because Poppys Passive makes it easier to survive so there isn't a really need for it.

The 8 in Utility are for speed and faster come and go. Because Poppy will be a little bit more important ingame, it is better if she can Improved Recall faster to come back faster. Even if it doesn't sound like a lot, ingame you don't think about it. There Every second counts. And therefore are the points on Good Hands . The faster you can come back. The better it will be.

What do we want to reach with the Items?

In this guide I focused on Critical Damage and attack speed and just a little for life steal. Because of the high attack speed, a high life steal is not necessary, so we can focus on the other things.

If you want to use Poppy's abilities, you have to wait for the "right" moment. But till you got those moments you have to deal with normal attack damage. So our aim is to push them.

The Idea behind the Itemorder and Itemchoice

Attack Speed combined with life steal will help you to loose as few life as possible, so the best thing is to start with it.
Like mentioned before, life steal is important so the best is to start with it as early as possible or Zeal is the best possibility to push your crit and to be faster.
Now buy the other for the balance and if you buy Zeal extend it to.


Buy it for the ability power in Devastating Blow and Heroic Charge this will help to push them. This guide is not focused in ap.

The good thing with Infinity Edge is, it pushes your crit chance and normal damage. Perfect.

Now we extend the scepter to the Bloodthirster, because of his awesome passive.

This item is a Hybrid item, so it's for ad and ap. It is exactly that, what we need, to not concentrate only on damage but to push our Q and E attack too.

Any damage dealt to Poppy that exceeds 10% of her current health is reduced by 50%. This does not reduce damage from structures.

Poppy's passive makes her hard to kill and can save your life in difficult situations. It reduces the damage the others can do to you the less life you have and this is the best premise to trap the enemies.


Poppy enhances her next attack so that it deals 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 (+60% of ability power) plus 8% of her target's maximum health in bonus damage. The bonus damage dealt cannot exceed 75 / 150 / 225 / 300 / 375.

The best way to use the ability is to combine it with Heroic Charge or to do last hits.


Passive: Upon being hit or attacking an enemy, Poppy's armor and damage are increased by 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 for 5 seconds. This effect can stack 10 times.

Active: Poppy gains max stacks of Paragon of Demacia and her movement speed is increased by 17 / 19 / 21 / 23 / 25 % for 5 seconds.

Because of the passive it is the best to push this ability at first. It is the balance for the little armor and pushs your damage, especially, at the beginning. This helps you to dominate your lane.

The active is very neat too. It allows you to be faster, so you can follow your enemies easier or to escape or to trap them.


Poppy charges at an enemy and carries them for a short distance (300 units). The initial impact deals 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+40% of ability power) magic damage. If they collide with terrain, her target takes 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+40% of ability power) magic damage and will be stunned for 1.5 seconds.

The best thing you can do is to Charge your target against an obstacle, so they are stunned for a short time, and your lane partner and you can finish him, or do at least a lot of damage.


For 6 / 7 / 8 seconds, Poppy is immune to any damage and abilities from enemies other than her target.

In addition, Poppy's attacks deal 20 / 30 / 40 % increased damage to the marked target. Damage increase applies to summoner spells and items used by Poppy.

There you have a lot of possibilities.

1. This ability is very usefull in teamfights. The most teamfights in midlane are very chaotic, so no one keeps track of the happening and you can chose someone with a high life and take a lot of it while he is distracted with the others. Use it with Devastating Blow for the max. damage.

2. You have only a little hp left and a jungler is coming. Don't shun to use it to save your life.

3. You can organize a trap. Again. The first thing is to make the enemies follow you. Use your ability to get the least damage as possible. After you reached your team (or the other way round) you could beat them easily.

A little hint:
The best way to make your enemy sad when he tries to escape:
1. Use Paragon of Demacia to follow him
2. If your victim is in range use Heroic Charge
3. Smash him with Devastating Blow
(4. The enemy is following you, use Diplomatic Immunity and trap them/ just run)

Summoner Spells

Explanation: :
At first the "better not"s
Smite is for jungler..
Cleanse Poppy's passive and W makes sure that she can survive things like getting slowed.
Clarity It would be better to buy one or two Mana Potion for the beginning. In the later game you won't need it.
Promote This guide supports the aggresive way, so that a little supporter for a short time would be useless, because Poppy makes more damage.
Clairvoyance I have never seen this ingame, and i think its useless. Therefore you have wards.

The possibilities :
Exhaust If your opponent wants to run away you can exhaust him and if you have luck you did it before he used flash so that you can follow him with Paragon of Demacia and kick him with Heroic Charge. And its nice if you have to chance against a 1 vs 1 right now and just want to escape.

Ghost It is the "longer arm" for your Paragon of Demacia. After someone want to escape and he used flash you can follow him with Paragon of Demacia and after that don't work you can use Ghost for the extra seconds of speed. Or again, if you have no chance against a 1 vs 3 right now and just want to escape.

Heal Is not only for you but for the team too. Can be useful in difficult situations. And don't get influenced by those guys who think Heal is for noobs. It can help a lot and safe your life. To stay alive is not noobish.

Flash Is an awesome way to confuse your enemies if you use it in jungle, so you escaped succesfully.

Surge Is a nice way to destroy enemy turrets faster. For example after both lane enemies died, use it to destroy the turret as fast as possible.

Ignite If Paragon of Demacia needs to cooldown and Heroic Charge is out of range, you can use it to hope that it will give your opponent the rest.

Teleport Use it if your lane partner or teammates are in danger. The best thing you can do is to put a lot of Sight Ward around the map. Especially if there is a jungler. With Teleport you can organize a trap. For example : the enemies saw you going back to base. Tell your lanepartner you will Teleport to a near Sight Ward. Your weaked lanepartner will going there and lead the enemies, who should be weaked a little bit, directly in your arms.

Revive After a hard battle it's not bad to use revive. You could go for some last hits. Because of the cooldowntimes (who are really to high) you have to complain by yourself :).

Lane Partners

can work with everyone who can push the lane at the beginning.

Because of self evident reasons we can exclude the typicall midlaners like or , but more flexible champs like or are something other.

At first, don't try to go solotop or in jungle. This guide was not made for this.

Second, the best lanepartners have, like mentioned, to do damage and push the lanes, because in the beginning you're just pushing the chance of crit, a little life steal and your attack speed.

and so on..

Tanks/Tankies/Carries/Pusher will work.

Supporter would be difficult, because they are not really for pushing the lane except Nidalee. It's the best to avoid to get with Janna or Soraka on a lane.

Gameplay: Beginning

At the beginning you have to be less aggressive than your lane partner, like mentioned, in the beginning you're just pushing the chance of crit, a little life steal and your attack speed.
Some last hits won't hurt you, and trying to kill the champs neither. But care, they will focus you.
The important thing is : don't be aggresive!
Don't run blind into your enemies. We know Heroic Charge is really cool, but wait till you've got B. F. Sword for Infinity Edge.
Don't shun to buy Health Potion or Sight Ward they are always helpfull.

After B. F. Sword you can suprise your enemies by more aggressive attacks than at the beginning, this is the best way to get dominant at your lane fast.

Gameplay: Mid game / Teamfights

Do something usefull: Try to stay alive. But don't be a coward.
Sounds easy? It should, if you play Poppy with a "better than ok" reaction time. You should also communicate with your team. You have a lot of possibilites to set traps and/ or provoke teamfights. Poppy can do it easy.

What you have to consider : if someone suicides for you, don't run back, even with your awesome passive. Just don't run back.

If you're in teamfights, try to Heroic Charge them so they are stunned for a short time and your team has the possibility to take one down. One by one.
