Pros/Cons
+ Viable In Most Team Comps And Has Many Viable Runes + High Burst Damage + No Mana Needed And Low Cooldown + High Mobility + Good AOE CCs + Very Influential And High Kill Potential Riven has more pros than cons. You could play riven Non-stop and there is no limit to how good you can get.Other than that, Riven has high mobility with her skills Broken Wings and Valor which has short CDs. Moreover, Riven has Aoe CC from Broken Wings and Ki Burst. |
- High Learning Curve - Low Sustain Early Game - Easily Shutdown By Heavy CCs - Countered By Ranged Champs Riven has lesser cons than pros but her cons are very important.First of all, Riven has a High Learning Curve which requires you to spend lots and lots of time into riven. You would also need to research on how to play against each matchup and how to build against them.Other than that, Riven needs to watch out for Ranged Champs and CC Champs which could shutdown Riven. |

PRECISION Keystone: Conqueror // This is a good page that is almost always picked against most matchups. It gives you most damage among the other runes and has(True Damage)to kill tanks easily.Overall, the best rune for riven. Q: Is this the only rune for riven? // Nope. This is not the only rune that you should always take, there are other pages that are viable depending on the matchup of enemy lane and team. |
✦ Triumph Triumph is the only good rune in that row as the other runes won't help riven as much. Triumph would be good when you kill your opponent to get back some health which could save you when your undertower or getting chased. |
✦ Legend: Alacrity Legend: Alacrity is good as it give you more attack speed to do fast combo more quickly. Legend: Tenacity also is anothor choice if the enemy has lots of CC and Legend: Bloodline is not that often picked unless you want more sustain. |
✦ Coup de Grace Coup de Grace is good as you can destroy enemies easily dealing more damage to low health enemies. Cut Down is also ok if against tanky teams and Last Stand is good in matchups where you will get poked. |
Transcendence
|
★ Riven takes Transcendence so that Riven can have a level 10 powerspike and reach 40% CDR with items Essence Reaver Or Black Cleaver and Ionian Boots of LucidityMoreover, Transcendence will give you more ad for each CDR you exceed |
Gathering Storm
|
★ Riven takes Gathering Storm so that Riven can scale throught-out the entire game and gain some ad even when falling behind. |
Nullifying Orb is a good rune to go if against ap matchup. Nimbus Cloak can be taken if you need speed to chase enemy. Scorch can be taken when you want to poke. Bone Plating and Overgrowth is good when against poking matchup so that you can sustain longer. Shield Bash is another option that will let you sustain with your Valor. Biscuit Delivery and Perfect Timing can be taken for sustain and be able to buy Guardian Angel faster. Cosmic Insight can be taken for higher CDR of 45%. |

Essence Reaver is my most built core item due to it's massive damage and Passive.I usually always go this in most of the matchups except tanky teams. Moreover,it give 20% Cooldown but you only can make plays with this when your ultimate is up to proc the passive giving you attack speed and cooldown per auto attack. | Black Cleaver is my rarest built core item because i just feel essence reaver allows riven to burst.Still its not always true,I sometimes build black cleaver when enemy team is tanky or i just need to sustain/shred armor. In the end,one should consider both items depending on the situation |
Ninja Tabi/Mercury's Treads > Armor/Magic Resist Respectively This is the cheapest attack speed item in the game. In Season Two, it was custom to buy this item on first recall, or as soon as possible. In Season Three, upgraded boots are not as necessary, so it is acceptable to delay this purchase. Mercury's Treads > TENACITY There are games when you are being caught out by CC and you haven't taken Cleanse for whatever reason, or if you're getting destroyed by ability power damage. Grab these boots instead of Berserker's Greaves for the tenacity and magic resist. |
