Lucian have a very high damage output in early game. Like graves he can almost kill you in one combo. Try to farm and push the lane. Dodge his Q and try to poke him when he is out of position.

Introduction
Kalista is an eternal spirit of retribution, who possesses a cold-burning hatred for all betrayers, deceivers, and traitors. In life, she was a legendary warrior, but while trying to avert tragedy she was betrayed and slain by those she trusted most. Now, she is an undying entity that can be invoked to exact vengeance, but only at great cost: the supplicant’s soul becomes forfeit, bound to her for eternity.
.
This guide is a work-in-progress guide for Kalista. The guide will tell you the advanced basics about this champion on the 5v5 arena Summoners Rift. I will responce at as much feedback as possible from you and therefore edit the guide as time passes.
.
My name is Swift and i am a gold ADC. In this guide i will show you my teachings about Kalista - The Spear of Vengeance.
Kalista is an ADC with a lot of mechanical options. This makes her very fun to play, but to master her you will need to practice a lot. She is able to run a lot of different builds, but this one i think is the most effektive. By stacking Attack Speed and Life Steal, makes Kalista a beast in team fights as well as in laning phase. |
Kalista is a very unusual ADC. She is the most mobile ADC and yet she is so easy to shut down. Therefore if mastered right, she is maybe one of the most powerful champion in the League of Legends universe.
This Pros/Cons list is just a piece of the full Kalista champion.
Pros
|
+ High DMG in lane + High DMG in fights + Easy to snowball + AoE Slow/DMG + High Movement + High AS + Healing |
Kalista is one of the most mobile and best sustainable ADC's. If she is not CC'ed down the enemies will have a very hard time in lane. If you have a support like Lulu, Thresh, Leona, Blitzcrank or one of the other in the "supports" chapter, she will be almost untouchable in lane. When you build Kalista with a lot of AS and Life Steal, you will have very high sustain both in lane and in fights. |
Cons
|
+ Hard to master + Very squishy + Relays a lot on support + Easy to shot down |
Kalista needs a lot of attention by her Support. In early game she needs to be supported at trades to deal her optimal damage. If her support stands in the back, while Kalista stands in the front, she will have a very hard time in lane. If you don't know Kalista's mechanics, like her Rend and Pierce, you will not be able to abuse her poke. |

Kalista is a very wierd ADC in terms of build. My typical build order looks like this:
Bloodthirster ➤ Runaan's Hurricane ➤ Berserker's Greaves ➤ Blade of the Ruined King ➤ Last Whisper ➤ Defensive item.
Kalista relays on Rend procs and life steal to sustain in fights. When building Bloodthirster you will have enough life steal to sustain laneing phase.
After this you will go for the Runaan's Hurricane. This item is amazing. One attack gives 3 rend procs. This is like 3 times the clear speed in lane and 3 times the damage in team fights. Therefore is this in my opinion the best item for Kalista, i don't think it should be the first item, because it does not give you damage or life steal to sustain.
After these two items you will need boots. Berserker's Greaves is a need for every ADC, because it gives you mobility and AS. The mobility is not needed for Kalista in fights, but out if fights it is crucial to have.
After this you have two options. If the enemy team is beginning to buy armor and you want to shread it, buy Last Whisper. If the enemy is not buying armor, rush the Blade of the Ruined King. When the enemy starts to stack armor, buy Last Whisper. In most cases you will buy Blade of the Ruined King. It gives you a a lot damage and even more sustain in form of life steal. This item will bring you up to a total of 33% life steal. The life steal allso procs on your Runaan's Hurricane projectiles, and therefore it takes you 4-5 attacks to get from 0 to 100% life.
After buying your last damage item, you are one hell of a monster in fights. You shred tanks in seconds, but you need some more defense. You are getting focused in fights because you deal to much damage. Here you have some options. Like before you need to look at the other teams items/abilities. If the enemy have high CC like Morgana, Vi, Malphite or Leona, you will need something to protect you from the lockdown. Pick up a Quicksilver Sash, or a Banshee's Veil to counter the CC. If the enemy got a fed AP Carry that shreds you in a matter of seconds, you can get something like Maw of Malmortius or a Guardian Angel. This makes you able to sustain fights a lot better and be almost immortal.
- Greater Quintessence of Attack Speed:
For Quints i use Attack Speed. This gives me a total of 14% attack speed only from quints. The attack speed gives you a lot of great movement and more rend procs early game. This can be replaced with Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage or even Greater Quintessence of Life Steal. This is up to you, but the attack speed is the most optimal in my opinion.
- Greater Mark of Attack Damage:
For marks i use Attack Damage. This gives you the damage you need to poke and last hit in early game. You can switch these out with Greater Mark of Attack Speed even though i dont recommend it. Your last hitting ability will be very bad because you will not have enough damage to kill them at 15-20% as you would normally. If you have a premade support you could do it, but this will be discussed down in the "Tips and Tricks" chapter.
- Greater Glyph of Magic Resist:
For glyphs i go flat magic resist. This gives you that sustain you will need versus supports with magic damage or even ADC's like Corki. You could go for Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist, if you don't have any in your lane dealing magic damage.
- Greater Seal of Armor:
For seals i go flat armor. This is a must in bottom lane to sustain the poke and overall damage from the enemy ADC, though you can switch some of them out with Greater Seal of Health. These gives you sustain in lane as well as in early fights.

OFFENSE TREE
Tier 1 // I have taken Fury and Butcher for tier 1. This gives me plenty of attack speed, while also dealing more damage to minions. Tier 2 // For tier 2 masteries i have taken Brute Force for increased damage scaling, and Feast. Fest is one of the best masteries in my opinion. Assuming that you only last hit minions in laning, this 1 point gives you 3% life steal and 1% mana steal. This point is why i dont take any life steal runes in my sets at all. Therefore Feast is a must in my opinion. It gives insane stats for its 1 point. Tier 3 // For tier 3 i take Spell Weaving . This skill makes your attacks deal 3% increased damage. When this mastery is combined with your Rend makes your damage output 3% higher. This does also apply to your Pierce assuming that you do some auto attacks before throwing. Martial Mastery and Executioner gives you increased damage in lane and also applies in mid-late game. Tier 4 // For tier 4 masteries i take 2 points in Warlord as well as one point in Dangerous Game . This increases your damage and gives you life and mana back when gaining a kill or assist. Tier 5 // For tier 5 i have taken Devastating Strikes . This gives you the extra magic and armor penetration you will need in lane. Tier 6 // And at last i have taken Havoc . This is a no-brainer not to take. 3% increased damage. Who would pass that? |

DEFENSE TREE
Tier 1 // For defensive masteries i take the standard ADC tree. For tier 1 i go for Recovery and Block . This gives me plenty of HP regeneration and block versus basic attacks. This gives me some of the defenses i need in early game. Tier 2 // For tier 2 i take Unyielding and Veteran's Scars . This gives me health and more damage reduction versus basic attacks. Tier 3 // At last i take Juggernaut . This gives me plenty of health to sustain lane. Again. Who would not accept 3% max life in 1 point. Dah! |
Pierce
Your movement and damage dealing ability.
Use Pierce to reset your attack animation i early game to deal almost 2x the damage you would normally do in about two auto attacks. You can use this spell for wallhops and basic movement, because it procs your passive.
Sentinel
Moving wards and poke in lane.
Sentinels are used as wards that scouts our the fog of war. The passive is used to poke down the enemy in lane.
Rend
Attack, attack, attack, attack, REND!
Rend is your main damage dealer. When it kills an enemy its cooldown resets. Attack the enemy and after an minion. Kill the minion with Rend and the enemy will also take damage from Rend and your cooldown is reset.
Fate's Call
Makes your support immortal and gives you a huge knock-up.
Pull up your support doing fights or disengages to either save him/her and/or use it for a huge knock-up to either engage or reengage a fight.
Kalista is based around her amazing Rend ability. It gives her tons of damage in both lane and in fights. It can be used in a lot of different situations to give you and your team awesome advantages. For skill order I go Fate's Call> Rend> Pierce> Sentinel. I start by maxing our ultimate Fate's Call when ever I are able to do it. The is because the extra range on this ability is very strong in fights. After I max Rend. This ability gives us plenty of damage, and even better CS ability because I are able to last hit a better with the extra damage. After Rend I max Pierce. This gives me movement in fights, long range damage and an awesome kill secure spell. At last I max Sentinel. These small ghosts gives me the vision and damage i need for early game, and it does not benefit me that much if i would max it out. It gives me the % increased magic damage per hit with my support, but thats it. No high burst or anything like that.
The list of tips and tricks or mechanics with Kalista is almost endless, but here is some of my known and most used tricks with her:
Balista combo
The Balista combo in bot lane is strong. When Kalista is sould bound with Blitzcrank via Black Spear, they are a very strong combo. This is due to Blitzcranks ability to grab enemies to you and immobilize them for a second or two. Also his E Power Fist procs Kalistas Sentinel passive, dealing even more damage doing the grabbing process. But this is not the strongest part. As shown in the videos Kalista can pull out Blitzcrank doing his grab Rocket Grab, therefore pulling the grabbed target all the way back to Kalista. Right when you hear the mechanic noise from Blitzcranks start grab animation, you use Fate's Call. Blitzcrank will be pulled back to you, as well as the grabbed target. This gives Blitzcrank's grab a huge range and is now able to grab targets that hides behind a tower (as shown with thresh in the video).
