Azir Overview and My Experience
Why Jungle?
Azir Jungle is a fun and unique pick when you do not feel the want to okay him as an ap mid laner. In the jungle, you will still deal an insane amount of damage when mid to late game arrives while simultaneously having a surprising amount of gank pressure during the laning phase. Once team fights begin to break out, Emperor's Divide can single handily win a team fight.
Pros / Cons
Early Game Item Choices
Hunter's Talisman provides early sustain in the jungle along with increased damage and mana regeneration allowing for more ability spam.
|
Refillable Potion is usually the better option when compared to Health Potion. Although Health Potion gives better value in the early stages of the game, Refillable Potion has the ability to upgrade into Hunter's Potion which will greatly help with jungle sustain for a fraction of the cost when compared to Health Potion.
|
Mid Game Essential Items
Stalker's Blade - Runic Echoes is the best jungle item enchant because it offers a decent amount of ap and movement speed. Azir has a very slow base movement speed so the extra bonus Stalker's Blade - Runic Echoes provides is very beneficial. The unique passive: echo gives your Conquering Sands a surprising amount of burst. Once this item is complete, clearing the jungle should not be an issue.
|
Nashor's Tooth is another core item on Azir. It offers a great amount of ability power and attack speed. It also provides 20 percent cool down reduction allowing for Conquering Sands spam. The only down side to Nashor's Tooth is the unique passive which does not work with Azir's soldiers. Despite this, Nashor's Tooth offers what Azir scales with the best: attack speed and ability power.
|
Rylai's Crystal Scepter synergizes amazingly on Azir. Azir's soldiers apply the Rylai's Crystal Scepter slow affect which allows for greater kiting and chase potential. The health also allows Azir to become more tanky and less susceptible to burst combos.
|
Sorcerer's Shoes are the boots you will purchase almost every game. The movement speed it provides is essential for Azir. It allows for greater map pressure and jungle presence. The magic penetration will also increase your damage against all enemy champions. I recommend to purchase Sorcerer's Shoes after purchasing Stinger.
|
Void Staff is the item which allows Azir to become a true hyper carry. Once Void Staff is complete, Azir will be able to destroy squishy and tanky champions. Void Staff provides a solid amount of ap and also an insane amount of magic penetration against targets with high magic resist.
|
Late Game Options
Zhonya's Hourglass is a very cheap option to deal with a high amount of attack damage or assassins. During team fights, using the shuriman shuffle and then using Zhonya's Hourglass is a great way to engage and not die instantly.
|
Rabadon's Deathcap gives a high amount of ability power. Purcahse this item if you want to deal tons of damage and become a true hyper carry. This however will leave you with little to no defensive item options.

What Do I Need to Know?
Azir is a very mechanically advanced champion in both the mid lane and in the jungle. In my opinion, Azir jungle is slightly harder than Azir in the mid lane because while jungling you must constantly be aware of the enemy jungle while also always looking for lanes to gank. Also, you must have constant control over dragon and Rift Herald in the early game. In order to proficiently master Azir you must learn to do the following:
Using the Shifting Sands Conquering Sands combo is one of the most valuable lessons to learn on Azir. Proper use of this combo differentiates the bad Azirs from the decent Azirs. The combo has two basic purposes: disengage and engage. To disengage, use Arise! first behind Azir then follow it up with Shifting Sands. At this point you have a small window of time where you can cast Conquering Sands to reposition Azir as far away as possible from his original position. The combo is shown below.
W >> E >> (pause)Q
>> >>
If you cast Conquering Sands too early, you will not travel far at all. If you cast it too late, Azir will travel to his soldier and stop while his soldier is moved due to your Conquering Sands input. The perfect time to use Conquering Sands is to wait until the Azir model is hovering over the soldier you placed down. Azir will only stop at the soldier once he has passed the soldier model. Using this combo to engage will be talked about later. The disengage combo is very useful and will take some getting used to in order to time it correctly.
The Shuriman Shuffle or Azirsec is a name for the combo Azir does to insec enemy champions by using Emperor's Divide. Insec means to push enemy champion(s) into your own team. This combo is one of the most fun and difficult combos to pull off. There are two types of the Shuriman Shuffle: the risky and the safe one.
The risky Shuriman Shuffle will put you in the middle of the enemy team. However, with this combo Azir can travel much farther than if you were to use the safe Shuriman Shuffle. This combo requires you to use the Arise! into a Shifting Sands Conquering Sands combo to move Azir into or behind the enemy team. After this use Emperor's Divide and push all the enemy champions into your own team. The combo should look like this.
W >> E >> Q(into enemy team) >> R
>> >> >>
Remember that this will put Azir in a very dangerous position after executed properly. However, proper use of this combo can win an entire team fight.
The safe Shuriman Shuffle is very situational but is a lot safer compared to the risky Shuriman Shuffle. The risky Shuriman Shuffle is very similar to the safe version however in the safe version you use Emperor's Divide once Azir is hovering over his soldier. The combo starts by using Arise! then following it up with Shifting Sands. After this, use Conquering Sands and Emperor's Divide almost simultaneously. The combo is below.
W >> E >> Q(towards your original position) R
>> >> and
This is very similar to the other combo however after the safe Shuriman Shuffle, Azir should end up where he started the combo from. The risky combo places Azir in the middle of the team fight which can easily lead him to be blown up. This combo will only work however if the enemy champion is standing close to one of Azir's soldiers. Because of this, the risky Shuriman Shuffle is most likely the combo you will use the majority of the time. The safe Shuriman Shuffle is shown below. Note that Azir could have easily positioned his Conquering Sands in any direction he wanted to.
What makes Azir extremely hard are his soldier mechanics and the kiting. His soldier mechanics are unlike any other champion which make him very unique and challenging. Kiting on Azir is very similar to kiting as an ADC. Use Arise! and auto attacks to apply Azir's Rylai's Crystal Scepter slow and remember to move every auto attack or few auto attacks. Use Conquering Sands to slow enemy champions and reposition Azir's soldiers.
>> attack >> >> attack >> kite back >> attack >> kite back >> attack
Azir should always remain the back line. However if you are perforimg a Shuriman Shuffle, you will be the engage for your team and end up in the front line. Remember that Azir is a very squishy mage so kiting and positioning are essential.
Emperor's Divide is one of the most versatile ultimates in the entire game. It can be used as engage, disengage, and peel for ally champions. As an engage, you can use the safe or risky shuriman shuffle. However, just because you have an opportunity to perform the insec does not mean you have to do it. Please do not push the fed enemy Nasus into your team. Using Emperor's Divide as disengage is very easy and straight forward. If you or your team are being dived on, throw out your ultimate. Remember to use the wall to kite and force the enemy into awkward positions. Using Emperor's Divide as peel for an ally is very similar to using it as disengage. If your ad carry or mid laner are being engaged on, throw out your ultimate. Do not always use Azir's ultimate for engage and do not always use his ultimate for disengage.
